You should do an episode next on the history of the giant twelve astrological signs that surround the Adler Planetarium inside and out around the sky dome theatre's architecture, who were the architects and why did the builders believe in astrology so much to make it the most prominent permanent feature of the entire building? The explanation that 'Mercury appears to be moving backwards in reference to the stars' when in apparent retrograde could be unpacked a bit more.. All the planets appear to be moving against the primary motion of all the stars when NOT in retrograde. When a planet goes retrograde it appears to be moving along with the primary motion of all the stars. This is why in astrology the belief was/is that a retrograde planet is 'caught up with' the constellations it's near and moving along with, which reflects those archetypes within us also being caught up in the moment, i.e. going with the flow.
The psychologist Carl Jung famously worked with astrophysicists using quantum mechanics to explain this phenomenon - and astrology - scientifically in his masterworks Synchronicity and Aion. In summary they concluded that the Big Bang is also a 'big pattern' unfolding, and the planets - Mercury included - exert no influence on us, instead humans noticed over many millennia that certain collective psychological phenomena occurs cyclically, seasonal depression disorder etc, and those cycles can be graphed onto the stars, like how we graph the passage of time onto a clock - the clock hitting 12 doesn't make people tired at midnight but people notice they feel tired after midnight and connect them together...
Did you know that it's not JUST Mercury that experiences retrograde throughout the year!?
