"...then as word got around that Henry could sing - or, rather, emit a compelling, raspy howl - H.R., singer of the legendary D.C. hardcore band Bad Brains, would sometimes pull Henry up to the mike and make him bark out a number."
My friend wanted to watch teenage mutant ninja turtles, but I already saw it with my grandparents so I went to see pump up the volume instead. I was blown away by the music and ended up buying the soundtrack - it really exposed me to some good music!
Back in the day I bought the Pump Up The Volume soundtrack that contained this and other gems. Always thought it was a great song but I only recently got caught up on the history of it while watching a doco about Punk.
Was in the soundtrack of a movie called Pump Up The Volume in the early 90s. Half the songs (like this one) you can't find on Spotify or anything, I just happen to own the soundtrack :)
@@kristinwarner9539 I see a bunch of "Pump Up The Volume" soundtracks when I search CZcams, one even says "1990". Can you point us to the one you're referring to? They're all different.
I used to kind of agree with this, better to cover songs your band can own and look like they wrote, or songs that are "cover" staples (Louie Louie, Hey Joe... etc.) than make inferior versions of classics, but getting older I've noticed that it doesn't hurt to have a bit of fun once in a while.

Pump up the volume
Amazing movie
The best cover of 'Kick Out The Jams' ever!
I've watched several and have to say I agree with Carl "The Truth" Williams
@@jameshartmann5258 - Not too many people will get that reference these days! lol
I like Buckley's take better: czcams.com/video/7x5UeGvA148/video.html
@@YQN2149 - I dig the jam but Buckley's voice ruins it for me. Too weak.
@@carlwilliams7759 somewhat this Rollins version seems more quiet though. Too slow. ;)
Kicks depression to the curb!
Knew Henry singing this would be sick
Jim Carey looking in top form here.
1251wire 😂 👏🏻

What’s the name of that doc?
@paulrinn1 I think it was just called "Punk" but it was a while ago now. If I remember correctly it was a 4 part series.
Nice. You can really snap your fingers to the beat.
Sick.

I actually prefer this version over the original, and I love MC5 lol.
@@SharpsBox Johnny socko
@@franksbtka1624 I found a better one. If I can find it again I will leave it in the comments. That being said. It will always be MC5. Also….. ……0i!✊
Annihilation. Never cover a song that you couldn't make sound better than the original.
who says it? Is there a rule book that says how to rock and roll??
So I should stop playing with my band according to your logic 😂

Fuck MC5, all hail Henry's roast.
It doesn't sound like henry Rollins is singing... Maybe he has a bad brain!
