The coolest countertop I’ve ever seen was my friend’s polished cement. She did the same treatment for her basement renovation too. It was gorgeous, functional, and cheap.
That is what we did. We even took a penny with the year that we redid the kitchen and placed it in the corner. The worst part was all of the sanding....it took forever, but it turned out amazing!!
The polished concrete is very heavy, so your cupboards have to be reinforced or very strong to support the weight. My daughter had the concrete put on her tiny island & it had to be reinforced. It is very durable though.
For your cabinets the color you’ve chosen is so pretty. I would paint the top cabinets the same color and the back splash will be more visible and bright and paint the inside a very bright white. When you open the cabinets to bright white will be like turning on a light and you will be able to see things in your cabinet better.
I LOVE that sage green! For me, installing pull out drawers in my lower cabinets was a game changer. It is so refreshing to see Canadian content!
you should paint the trim on the doors the same color as the lower cabinets.
Nice green. I'd do the cupboards in the the same colour. 🙋
I would do the upper cupboards, the same color as the bottom cupboards.
You should paint the kitchen ceiling white. Mine was wood and I took the risk and it brought so much light inside. Made everything look bigger
If you have Dollar Tree stores in your area, the cookie sheets they have are just the perfect size to hold one of the silicone doughnut molds. I also use them when I am using disposable aluminum pans to take for a potluck dinner, to stabilize the pan, for $1.25 US you can even afford to leave one behind.
Upper cabinets. Look up Garden Stone Grey
I think by looking at the green it almost has a grey undertone.
Sweet !
If you wanted to have that glass look and maybe paint the inside of that cabinets that muted Barn read that you're thinking you could always Frost the outside instead of just having regular glass that would be real cute
I decided against glass in my cupboard doors for the same reason you did! I keep my cupboards really organized, but I don’t want to look at the contents all the time. Love your videos! I’m a retired school teacher, and we just moved not a brand new prefab house with a huge kitchen. I’m loving being able to spread out to cook. We lived in a tiny rental for two years, and cooking and baking was not enjoyable.
I’m also a sewer and crafter and now have room to do that, too. When my three kids were at home, I canned and froze a lot of produce and had a big garden. I’m going to try Earth Boxes next year to grow some things since the 1/2 acre lot we’re on is very rocky. I’m anxious to see your finished kitchen!
A frosted etched glass would be beautiful in the cupboard doors,
The crunch of the crust when you are tearing it…..mouth watering
Yes 😊 I thought the same 🤤
I’d paint the uppers the same color as the bottom ones
If you can get Rolo candies which has caramel in it. Place candy on pretzel, when they come out of the oven you can push a pecan down on rolo candy or if you don't like nuts use another pretzel.
Yes! Polished cement would be great!!!!
We make the pretzels with rollos. We can normally find a bag of them that aren't wrapped when stores start putting out Christmas candy. We do exactly what you mentioned; set up the bottoms, heat them in small batches, and then top them when the come out of the oven. Definitely cycle them through in small batches, though, or they'll set up again while you're topping.
Looks great!
Oh boy ...I gotta try those donuts now!!😊
I love the community tradition of a wiener roast and fireworks - how perfect!!!
a bold wallpaper inside the cabinet
You could still put glass in the upper cabinets but make it a smokey glass or use some sort of etching liner so that you can’t see through it.
When I redid my kitchen, I added a gorgeous blue tile looking wallpaper that I bought on Amazon to the back, and when they were opened, everyone was surprised. It turned out amazing!! My cabinets were a light grey color. My kitchen was mostly white with grey accents. The only blue was inside the cabinets.
I guess I should've added that we added that wallpaper to the back of the cabinets.
I just received your beautiful cookbook and it was a wonderful read! I can’t wait to try all of the great recipes. Thank you for all the hard work and love that went in to this book. Be proud of this achievement, you are amazing!
That looks very good! I make them with caramel, pretzels and chocolate that is also good but it sounds good with marshmallow
Quartz countertops are amazing. You don't have to deal them every year!!!
I think painting the outside of the upper cabinets the same as the bottom and redoing the doors white would be nice.
Love the green 🥰❣️Quartzite is really great for counter tops… a little pricey but very tough and long- lasting- and you really don’t have a large surface….
We got snow in Michigan, just a little but it got really cold!
Oh my gosh your bread pudding looks delicious... Can only imagine how your house smells! I know your winding down for the winter and if there's anyone who deserves a break, its certainly you Miss Chelsea. 💗
All I can say is ....YUM!
Maybe on upper cabinets - paint the white and do a simple pretty contrasting stencil design in the middle…..☺
That color is gorgeous, and for the cupboards you could always stencil in a beautiful look they have some amazing ones online.
Putting a Hershey kiss on top of the pretzel and melt..or m and m…yum
I love the airy green! I would keep your top cupboards white for sure because you are doing a white backsplash and you will be amazed at how much brighter and bigger your kitchen will look. It will also be cohesive with your white appliances and make it all look like it flows! I also think butcher block countertops would look amazing!
I use rolo candy with the pretzels and top them with a pecan half. I press the pecan after they come out of the oven. I also use only one pretzel.
Not sure if anyone else suggested this, but if you add a pan of hot water to your oven when you bake your bread, it will give it that crunchy exterior.
loving the new cabinet color.
I would put open shelves between the 2 windows and display your everyday plates ,bowls, cups etc
Ever thought about a high grade commercial cleanable wallpaper for the interior panels of your uppers? Easy to coordinate with all the other surfaces and colors you choose.
I put a textured glass in my upper cabinets and absolutely love it. I find they don’t get very dirty.
Crispy Crunch bars .... YUMMMYYY I so miss them. I always bring them home (Shreddies and All-dressed /ketchup chips too)
And my upper cabinets are white. Also great minds think alike.
Love the paint love your videos God bless you and your family from, West
Yum ! 😋 I love pumpkin everything 😊
Those donuts!!!
I've always wanted open shelving in place of some of my upper cabinets. Or you could do frosted glass.
If you want glass do a decdecrative frosted glass
Really nice green. I would do the cabinets in the same green and the interiors in white. It makes it easier to see what is deeper inside. I hope to make my lower cabinets with rolling trays to make it easier to get what is on the bottom and in back.
ROLLO candies work well for your pretzels. They have chocolate and caramel.
Subway tiles are great. Have you thought about a wooden countertop? we have an oak one that we oil once a year and it looks really nice. I’d agree about not putting glass in your cabinets, as it highlights all the clutter.
I grew up using French bread to dunk in my coffee I know it sounds funny but it's great.
Love the green. Love love love!!! There are cute contact paper designs out. No paint or glue involved. Easy to change later. I used contact paper inside the shelves and a different one inside the cupboard on the back wall. So cute! So exciting to get a kitchen facelift. No matter how small or large it is. 😊
I have those doughnut pans. Will be making those!
Love your T-shirt!!! In fact, I love it so much, I just went and ordered one before even commenting and giving this video a thumbs up. LOL
I’m so glad you love it! I do too!😊
Maybe frosted glass inserts in the upper cabinets
I was thinking polished cement for her kitchen too!
I live in Pennsylvania and I got mine two days ago. I love it, it’s gorgeous!!!
Ohhhhh I think your kitchen will look fab with the green and the copper. Love the white uppers. I think I will try donuts, they sounds delish. Oh was thinking about the pretzel snacks, out a piece of jersey bar and a Kraft caramel….it would be so good. Such a great idea, thanks for sharing. Cheers 🇨🇦
So much you can do with that bread pudding. Pour a vanilla, or a Carmel sauce over it when serving. Yum!
We put rolos on top of pretzel. Lightly push in pecan on top after taking out of oven. No top pretzel though.
Beautiful color :)
Got my cookbook. Absolutely love it. Can’t wait to start making some of the recipes.
This new color is very pretty, in the recording, with the floor tile. Great choice.
I got my cook book yesterday; I am so excited! Thank you!
Love the color!!!!!
We make similar treats with mini pretzles, Rollos candy, and a walnut or pecan piece. Lay out pretzles flat on tray, place one Rollo on each, get them melty in the oven, pull out the tray and quickly press the nut into the melted rollo on top of each one. (Rollos are chocolate covered caramel) Makes a delicious salty sweet treat. :)
We had snow Halloween evening after the little kids were done. Ontario
You can freeze fry skittles
Just found your channel and I’m glad I did! Ordered your cook book as well. Thank you for sharing your recipes.
I've watched a few channels that say chocolate cannot be freed dried successfully. I would be very curious to see how he candy bars come out. I am literally drooling as you make the bread pudding and donuts.
Bet the bread pudding would taste amazing in Martha
Hi Chelsea, why not paint the uppers the same as the lowers? It’s would still be light and bright with color. Also, what about cane inserts or chicken wire inserts on the top cabinets? Open but hides the mess.
I couldn't stand super sweet stuff when I was a youngun, it's even worse now.
But it seems like folks add more sugar to everything compared to back in the day.
Other younguns thought that was strange.
I'd eat cake without icing, wasn't fond of pancakes, and always choose lemon candy for a bit of sour to cut the sweet.
The sweetest thing I consumed until I was nearly four years old was fruit.
But my teeth were always in better shape than everybody else.
When my younguns we're alive I didn't douse them with sweets either.
They got dessert maybe every other weekend.
I’m with you
I just painted my cabinets same color as you. Shereen William's paint.
I bet chopped walnuts or pecans would be delicious in the pudding!
It would look so good to stencil Pennsylvania Dutch folk art on the front of your top cabinets. 😊❤😊❤
Pretzel with melted rolo's sounds great
Your upper cabinets might look cute if you were able to tie in the ‘cut out’ design of your pretty shelf. Either stencil a design on or actually find ‘lacy’ wood panels. Thin plexiglass could cover the inside to stop dust.
For inside of cabinets I line with a contact paper instead of painting. More affordable and easy to replace. There are many colors and patterns available these days. I’ve done this for years in my kitchen and bathroom cabinets and drawers and we love it.
when seeing those beaters reminded me of a fun if not "naughty" saying, a good mother let's you lick the beaters, a great one turns them off first. I am planning to make this dessert though as I am hosting visitors soon and you have given me a wonderful idea
I just received my book yesterday and is opened on your Ginger Snaps which is my husbands favorite cookie. Also looking forward to your bread pudding yumm ~Pam~
I use Sally's Baking Addiction for so many recipes.
The visual person in me sees a kitchen that is divorced, but we want to see your kitchen married! To keep the lower and higher cupboards in a happy relationship, I would consider having white (I think your higher cupboards are white) & green in both areas. For example, the lower cupboards you could paint the drawer fronts white or keep green with a hint of a white inner border - not to thick or it will look too busy. As for the higher cupboards I would use the decorate wall piece you have above the oven and put a similar pattern in the center panel of both cupboard doors - you could paint the inserts green (paint the inside of these cupboards white if you do this). Just remember, whatever you do needs to balance between the high and low cupboards. For example, if you do an inner border on the lower cupboards, think about doing an outer border on the higher cupboards. Copper or wooden handles to match the log cabin would look great. Whatever you decide - Have fun! Goodluck 🙂
Rolos are great if you want chocolate and caramel
Your kitchen must smell wonderful! ❤
No snow yet where I live, Toronto, Canada 🚫❄️
I think a butcher countertop would really be nice and would match your log cabin walls that are in your kitchen just my opinion
I have red oak countertops with a “live” edge. Means the edges are curved
, not straight. It took me YEARS to save for it. I have always loved your kitchen, I love the open space it has.
Hi Chelsea…. Perhaps you might consider frosted or etched glass for your upper cabinets? I have cabinets on either side of my stove and I’m constantly washing the fronts of the doors due to cooking moisture and grease to the point that the finish is coming off. Also I don’t have much natural light in my kitchen and I’m sure they would brighten it up. My cabinets are espresso in colour so are very dark. I’ve often thought if the fronts were frosted glass it would also be much easier to clean with other soap and water then use my Norwex glass cloth to dry the glass. Just some food for thought 😊
They looked gorgeous your kids are so well-looked after with all that baking
Looks like you have Arborite countertops... which I loooove. They're almost Indestructible. You could just replace the 2 inch facing as that's what usually gets damaged. ;-) Love the sage of your cabinets ♥
Yummy!!! We had a dusting of snow last night in London Ontario. It's supposed to be 7C - 9C for the next few days. Just love your channel. Thanks Chelsea.
I use rolos and you can get in bag that you don't have to unwrap them. It's caramel and choc. So good. Place one on pretzel and when it melts rolo just slightly placeva pecan half on top. Great video Chelsea.
We completed a full, down to the studs, renovation of our house a little less than a year ago. So much work but so worth it! For those upper cabinets, is it possible to replace them with cabinets that go all the way up to the ceiling? It’s hard to tell how much space you have there from the video. This would give you additional storage space as well as brighten up the dark corners. I also think they should definitely stay white or very light color. Especially with the white backsplash. I recently found your channel and am loving your videos! Can’t wait to see what you end up doing in the kitchen.
Thank you Chelsea!😘
Oh, and I love the sage green cupboards. I personally like the white, upper cupboards with the green lower cupboards
Wow your eggs are such a beautiful orange! 😊
I've got your cookbook and I looked at the bread pudding recipe the other day so now I'm going to make it. Those treats looks good as well. Love the color of your cabinets thank you for sharing.
Fantastic color for your cupboards; they blend so well with your wood finishes! Great baking; thanks for sharing! I hope it was nice warm weather last night there; we were above zero for the kids to go out!
I really enjoy your videos
