Finally Happened! NASA's New Spaceplane Is Launching After Constant Delays...
The race to the ISS is gearing up for its most exhilarating chapter yet, with the entry of numerous new contenders. Among these, Dream Chaser is garnering significant attention as it prepares to make its debut in the near future. While delays have pushed back timelines, they serve as indicators of the groundbreaking transformations this space plane could bring to the aerospace industry. How are preparations for the Dream Chaser advancing? What impact will this mission have on the space industry? Can it outpace the formidable SpaceX Dragon, the reigning giant? Stay tuned as we delve into these questions on today's episode of Great SpaceX.
Finally Happened! NASA's New Spaceplane Is Launching After Constant Delays...
It's been over a decade since the iconic Space Shuttle bid farewell to its missions in space. Dream Chaser, boasting a similar space plane design, is poised to step into the shoes of the Space Shuttle for future space endeavors. Despite facing numerous delays over the years, the prospect of witnessing Dream Chaser take flight is now closer than ever. Sierra Space unveiled its first complete prototype, named Tenacity, towards the end of 2023. Following this unveiling, the prototype was transported to NASA's test center in Ohio to undergo environmental testing.
Finally Happened! NASA's New Spaceplane Is Launching After Constant Delays... Initially scheduled for launch in April as part of the second flight of ULA's Vulcan Centaur, the launch has since been pushed back to the fourth quarter of this year.
Despite the delays in launch schedules, testing endeavors for Dream Chaser continue to advance smoothly. Earlier this year, Dream Chaser, accompanied by the Shooting Star module, underwent vibration testing on the world's largest vibration table. This critical test, one of the largest conducted on this space plane, evaluates its resilience against extreme vibrations during encapsulation within the Vulcan Centaur's fairing and throughout the launch process. On March 7, Sierra Space reported the successful completion of this test, along with other pivotal assessments such as the separation shock test and wing deployment evaluation.

AGAIN IT REPEATEDLY HAPPENED! Your title for this video is; "Finally Happened! My money is on Dreamchaser, looks the most viable addition to Crew Dragon , Orion and Starliner are problematic in many ways so far along in their development, over budget and lots of issues

The only way that humans will be able to colonize the Moon, Mars and explore via manned craft our solar system is for all nations or most of the advanced nations on Earth to join forces. A United Earth as Star Trek's creator Gene Roddenberry envisioned. But our human pettiness and greed will destroy our home planet well before any permanent self sufficient Moon base or Mars base will exist.

The Space Shuttle was also supposed to offer rapid and low cost turn round due to its aircraft like landing. Hopefully, Sierra Space have a better handle on that and the heat shield tiles function better and require less refurb. At least Dreamchaser is on top of the launch vehicle, not next to major components during launch.

I don't look at Dreamchaser as being in competition with SpaceX. It's another great tool to have in your arsenal. I don't think we should should look at it like competition. Both will have the same missions. But both will have different missions. That's a good thing. Great Episode Kev.

After these seven flights the Cargo Dream Chaser will be FREE to UP-Grade to the Crew Dream Chaser on a Crew rated ULA Vulcan Centaur ! With the ISS life ending soon in seven years (2031 ?) or so... New station modules will be launched into LEO to keep the dream alive ! With the RSA leaving the ISS there is no reason for a big station in a high inclination orbit. A new low cost to reach low inclination LEO CSS heading East from the KSC with a Fuel Depot nearby ! This LEO CSS with a Fuel Depot nearby can be reached and supported by the ESA launch pad ! This LEO CSS will support missions to and from the moon and support the South Pole Lunar Outpost/Base (Clementine Base) with a LS Fuel Depot nearby ! The Tech to return to the moon to stay, can take US and the world to Mars and beyond ! tjl

The original Space Shuttle was a great concept. It was only intended to be a workhorse and cargo delivery system.
There was also a mini shuttle similar to this Dream Chaser. Intended to be launched from a Boeing aircraft at 50k feet. This was a crew transporter that could be launched multiple times a week.
Also Envisioned was a magnetic rail launch system that could launch large canisters of bulk material for 10 cents a pound and capable of a launch every 30 minutes.
      AND THEN,
The politicians got involved. The Shuttle became a very complex do everything in one system. Grossly over priced and fraught with problems.
But dozens of politicians were able to steer many different tasks to their voting districts.
This has been the downfall of NASA. All political all the time.

Wouldn't it be something if SpacEx and Sierra decided to collaborate and send up Dream Chaser on a Falcon Booster? "Will never happen. Because Dragon competes with Dream Chaser you fool!" So scream my critics. Uh,huh.

Well that's nice but the only problem is it's not a shuttle! The shuttle was something else all together it had lots of redundancy. And could lift a huge payload into space. For the worst decision of any president in the world w bush really made a big mistake most of the shuttles had half the life still in them. None of these systems right now could go to Hubble or the James Webb Telescope to fix it if they had you or any other satellites. There was a bunch of us out there for years kept asking NASA to leave the external tank in space because you had a habitat or at least a gas station there if you would have taken all the external tanks and got them together you can use a bunch of them is habitats. But it didn't happen they just burned up in the Indian Ocean if NASA really wants to show something they should build Pathfinder the next best shuttle.

Not only were both shuttle accidents totally preventable as some parts of NASA and the contractors knew for years and decades that the SRB field joints were NOT well designed and the External Tank insulating foam striking the shuttle from the port forward bipod ramp. NASA should have stopped flying and fix these two items. The extremely complex shuttle orbiter was not the cause of the accidents. After recently reading a book about the history of the Apollo program, both the Apollo One fire and Apollo 13 incidents were also totally preventable. As Dr. Christopher Kraft was quoted in an oral interview, he stated that "the shuttle accidents were NOT the fallacy of the machine, but the fallacy of the human brain" in that the very well known shuttle (and Apollo) issues which caused the accidents were NOT fixed until after the accidents! Human decisions and lack of money from the US Congress prevented many upgrades and improvements to the space shuttle system due to lack of money. NASA shuttle budget was about $2.2 Billion out of just $18 Billion of NASA's entire budget while Congress spent $1.5 Trillion of tax payer money to get the "bugs" out of the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter which like its predecessor the F-22 Raptor, were and are barely used in combat situations. A huge waste of money. If the US gets in a war with Russia and China , these planes, as sophisticated as they are, will not win the war. The US hasn't won a war since WWII.
