- Apologies for the long wait. I worked on this track for the entire eight months since last my last update and it was stuck in some serious writers block. First, I am not a big fan of the original track. The harsh strings setting the rhythm in the original, the revolving round, and the reuse of the main theme just made everything feel too repetitive. I decided to just not bother with the last section. Second, I decided not to use any gimmicky instruments, and just stick with the traditional orchestra setup. No piano either. By dealing with a softer, at times slower piece, I needed to spend exponentially more time getting each note nuance to sound right, as they would be under much more scrutiny to a listener. I basically took away the usual tricks I use to mask the imperfections of my orchestral samples, and this was such a headache to deal with. On black friday I went online and bought a ridiculous amount of new orchestral libraries that I anticipate will make my life easier in the future (they are not featured in this track).
My two big reference tracks to draw from for this were the Distant Worlds orchestration of Final Fantasy VI Phantom Forest, and Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker. Phantom Forest in particular I feel does such a good job of evoking the mood of a mysterious forest, and if you close your eyes, you can kind of picture when each instrument flies in and leaves, are like all the lush vegetation stretching to infinity and animals running around everywhere. Pizzicato strings sound much better for the rhythm, and can be pulled back more to give space for the rest of the instruments. The nutcracker shared a similar instrumentation, and I especially like how groups of instruments would just swell in and then leave. Everywhere is just teeming with life. If you were to explore a dense forest on your own, you can look choose where to turn your head, where to approach, where to focus your attention on, see something completely unique. So to imitate that, which toby fox has also accomplished with the round, is you can in the same way focus your ears on listening to a particular instrument, and they are playing their own melody or motif. I try at times to have either a counter-melody, or just basic riffs and chord progressions that if you were to isolate, could sound good on their own. A lot of times I've mixed them all the way down, to the point where you might not really hear it clearly at all, but the knowledge that they're there is satisfying to me.
I guess another big change I should talk about is the overall melancholic and sorrowful tone in my version that's way more pronounced. The sad strings and bright flutes were basically the two things in toby fox's original that I did enjoy, and just speaking musically, I just didn't like that it got more cheerful when it transitioned to the main theme at the end. To fit the scarlet forest better, he probably should have made the strings a bit more happier and mischievous, but he didn't and so I took them and ran with it in the opposite direction. I altered the notation a bit in my version, expanded the middle, and wrote a new ending that just makes you want to cry. It's great!

Some people make music. You make an adventure.
I thought your channel is dead, but no, you made a masterpiece, and the description makes me cry.
Also Made me cry
Lol the description makes me feel a bit self conscious, since I'm not well-versed in music theory at all and Scarlet Forest is one of my favourites in the ost.
I really like this cover though, it is much more dynamic than the minute-long loop that is the original.
I don't think that it's more intellectual to dislike this song than to like it. I know a lot of music theory, and still liked Scarlet Forest a lot. It's just a matter of opinion, and doesn't reflect on you at all.
Music is totally subjective so don't feel like that at all
Oh god I love this, Scarlet Forest is my favorite Deltarune song!!!!
This is not just a hidden gem. It's a damn gold rush.
Thank you for completing this. Seriously.
The wait was worth it :) This is so much better than the original, so rich and well crafted, amazing work!
"Orchestral guys gotta look out for each other, that's all!"
“So much better than the original” is stretching it a lot, that’s just plain disrespectful to Toby Fox, who probably spent HOURS making the soundtrack to his game. Blatant Brown Nosing.
@@HatKidPeck I think It is much more complex than the original but I do think they're different rather than worse or better and it is a bit rude to say it is much better than the original.
Nah, the original is better
That was a good call purchasing new libraries for Black Friday.
Your orchestration is magnificent here and the fact that you managed to extend this piece is absolutely insane. I'm loving the woodwinds and their passages here. You're very right when you say that the woodwinds add a very unique color to the orchestra. They have such a distinct timbre and it's very much noticeable.
Additionally, I love how you've gone above and beyond, even citing Tchaikovsky's the Nutcracker. Also, your ability to characterize certain types of writing for different ensembles to emulate emotions is spectacular. I love what you were doing with the mischievous strings and then that ending. It's sublime.
This, to me, is a testament to your growth and expanded knowledge from when you were doing the Link's Awakening re-orchestration. The production value is great and I respect you even more for this one. This was very much well worth the wait.
Thank you for this Jeremiah.
I can definitely hear the Tchaikovsky influence! Now I'd love to see a ballet piece choreographed to this arrangement (I was definitely imagining one in my head)! I also feel like you've somehow connected this piece more to the original Undertale mood, with its mix of bittersweet and epic elements. Great work!
Boa ideia
You do not get as much credit as you deserve for the quality of this music. Seriously, props to you. This is amazing.
Keep it up!
"... and wrote a new ending that just makes you want to cry.
It's great!"
I enjoy reading your descriptions with the intermittent jargon that means absolutely nothing to me because you seem to put a lot of thought into what you write there. And then I see something like the above that just gets a hearty chuckle out of me.
this is the best on the youtube for all time. and for many years i forgot that youtube has a upvote feature.
This all I'm playing on repeat this Christmas season (and in every Christmas after)
Don't worry about writers block, I recently had an art block, and somehow I overcame it! Amazing track, every instument has it's own place and together they're in nice harmony! Good job!
I have to admit, the beginning is not my favourite: the fourth bar with it's reduced tone changes from two to one is not benefiting this melody...
But other than that, it sounds amazing. Thank you for doing these great arrangements!
Every time I see the notification that you’ve uploaded I smile inside. Needless to say my day was miserable, it was arguably one of the worst ones I’ve ever had, but I can’t help but smile inside whenever you upload, these orchestrations never fail to brighten up my day.
I hope your doing better now!
YO HOLY SHIT!!! IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS!!!
Ten Minutes too! Thank you so much man it sounds great!
I think I speak on behalf of us all when I say your struggles were worthy of what you created. This was wonderful! I'm sorry that you went through so many, but we're more than glad to hear this result!
This is the most beautiful thing my ears have listened to in my whole life
I can't imagine how PERFECT would a Journey OST orchestra written by you be
I love Scarlet Forest but I agree with the spam of the main theme, although I like it, it's overused compared to the existing tracks in the game.
Don't worry about writers block as it happens to a lot of us plus this sounds really good, dont give give up :)
I wish I had read the description first. I kept waiting for the explosive resolution and the music kept receding. It felt like waiting ten minutes for a sneeze. It's 2 am, I was about to nod off and now I'm literally not going to be able to fall asleep anymore because of how much you jacked up my dopamine levels with this track.
I just tumble myself in here. I don’t regret it at all . This scarlet forest cover to me beats all the rest . Simply beautiful ❤️ you earn yourself a subscriber !
Man, you're so underrated. Your descriptions are amazing as always to read. A whole 10 minutes... it's like taking a Deltarune track and making it into classical music. I love this very much!
This is my favorite, most beautiful cover of Scarlet Forest ever, no contest. Gosh. I've got goosebumps and I feel the magic you are trying to convey like the description says.
I've been waiting for this ever since I heard the preview on Patreon! Definitely hearing the Nutcracker influence (particularly with the harp parts) and I love that this has a more magical/mystical feeling than the original! It does sound a little crowded at some parts, but I love the divergences as usual in your arrangements, haha.
also at 5:00 that transition is just *chefs kiss*
Thank you Sharic for making me read the description. Had no idea how much work goes into this. It feels so effortless just listening to it, but then I suppose it would given how much you've put into it. Absolutely incredible.
I was waiting sooo long for this mix. My favorite track in the game. I really appreciate the time and dedication you took into this one. It really shows! Bravo!!!
As always, your remixes are among the best, if not the best. I truly love the original work of Toby Fox, and your orchestration does really do something great to it. I can't put words in English as I hear this masterpiece, so let me tell you that I find it "grandiose" as we say in French. It truly take me to the mood I have when I first played Deltarune, and even beyond because of the beauty of the music. Thank you for your amazing job !
This is so magic! You are my best composer right now
Wonderful ! This is so sweet to listen to. A blessing, like all your other undertale remixes you just get everything right
So worth the wait. Amazing work, as always.
I didn't even see this until now... no idea how that happened but I'm certainly glad I listened to it now. Is there no track that you can't make your own? You're amazing, Jeremiah. You really are. Thanks again.
i just... want to thank you.
For amazing stuff like this
I just deleted the original off my hard drive. You've so completely eclipsed it with your rendition there is no point to it's existence anymore.
This is gorgeous.
I think I had Dungeons & Dragons on the brain when I was listening to this, because the first thought that entered my head was that this piece would be *perfect* for Feywild ambiance.
Hot daym.
I was just looking for inspiration for a piece I was writing that sounds very reminiscent of Scarlet Forest, so I went on CZcams to find inspiration by looking for other similar tracks. I started with juts looking for an orchestrated version of Scarlet Forest and your video was the first result.
I gotta say.
This is bloody incredible sounding.
You improved the original tenfold. Thanks for making this.
I'm gonna be honest, I did not expect this to be this good.
As per usual, a Masterpiece my good sir. Thank you.
New upload :O
Sounds awesome ! Good job on the track !
Dude, you're by far the best Undertale/deltarune coverer I've ever heard. You are a pro, you know to place all your Instruments in the acoustic room, you know how you should use all the many and different intruments that make your orchester complete. And Last but not least, you how to add details and epicness without destroying the core of the piece. All of your covers are my favorite of all the different covers of the same piece.
So I like to say four very challenging words:
YOUR BEST NIGHTMARE/FINALE !!!!
I hope your creativity will one day say yes to this Idea :)
Edit: I completely agree with sullys critic on the Video "the Legend". He totally points that out what I'm not able to tell in English :)
This is a masterpiece. You've done SO much with the original track here. Well done.
Man, I've never heard such an orchestration in a VG remix before! It's incredible.
Ayyyy an upload, this is lit
Your profile picture is blessed
Magnifique, wunderschön! Grandiose!
Long time no see!
and your skill is still amazing
It's only been 3 years but this hit into my feelings.
This is an absolute masterpiece. Feels like I’m actually in the game
Amazing!!
Wooow thank you for this amazing cover.
Lovely as always!
This cover literally blows my mind; probably because original song is already good, but this sounds just outstanding
Me too
Masterful friend! You are legendary!
Jesus this is so good, I wish I could become as good as you one day, you're a huge inspiration
I don’t know how many times I’ve already listened to this
Beautiful job! Anyone who can extend a short song and make it sound this great gets my vote. I can’t wait to buy this album, and hopefully an Undertale album as well.
The king returns :D
this is so beautiful
World needs more excellent musicans as you.
Beautiful!!
Incredible, great work
I'm surprised you weren't a big fan of Toby's original track, but in hindsight, it makes some sense. Toby writes really good video game music, but Scarlet Forest was clearly written in the style of an orchestral track, so it only figures that someone like you would have a better sense of what makes a good orchestra =)
Incredible
Damn, you made this better than the original in every fucking way. I also love you the way you composed this, definitely taking notes!
Sounds really fantastic
Ah, a lovely piece, fantastic job.
Thank you.
I am in love with your arrangements and have been listening to them for about a year plus. But after realizing there are only a handful of orchestral arrangements for a certain song that is very important to me I was just wondering if you would like to take a request. The song in question is The Grand Finale/In the Final from Mario and Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story. If you aren’t taking recommendations I understand as these things take a lot of work (especially Scarlet Forest).
Am i the only one who believes that it's one of the best ost ever made, so fantastic beautiful etc... would perfectly fit for an exploring game as long as it's worthy of carrying Toby Fox's music (i"m talking about the original ost, btw great job on the orchestrated version it is incredible)
CHRISTMAS CAME EARLY THIS YEAR, TIME FOR THE NEXT FOUR HOURS OF STUDYING TO S L A P
You are too much underrated.
Can you make an orchestral cover of Checker Dance?
Better late then never amirite?
This is awesome! Saved
What else have you saved like this?
@@HardwareFahrrad calming music
this 👏 is 👏 high 👏 quality 👏
BEAU-TI-FUL
Woo!
You got it just right man. Just right
OH SHIT HE BACK
this is good.
This shit is good
A beautiful piece, quite a bit more enjoyable than the original. The original felt sort of tone deaf and I believe this version fits the area much better.
YES
Omg feels like tschaikovsky somehow. Its great!
Oh yeah, I really agree with that
This is the good shit
Came here just in time
It feels like it's been a while, huh?
Bro why the fuck is this nostalgic
Bassoon = instant like
WHAT THE! THAT MUST'VE TAKEN MORE THAN JUST EIGHT MONTHS!!! YOU ABSOLUTE MADLAD!!!!!! SUBBED! LIKED! HIT THE BELL! RAPED THE SHARE BUTTON! DEMOLISHED MY SELF IMAGE FOR BEING SUCH A LAZY ASS!!!!!!!!!!
hey TSN, i got a request for ya, it may be a little unusual compared to the stuff you usually do but you would be doing a real solid for me, it's a nes game request and i was wondering if you could take it. i'll give the details after your response.
It’s been 3000 years...
Yes.
This is so much more creative than anything Toby Fox has ever done and/or will ever do
Can you do "You can always come home" next?
Juice and chips.
S W E E T
why are you uploading videos from year to year
Yeah
Kinda reminds me of vietnam, but the nostalgia is real.
Why does it remind you of Vietnam? I'm just curious xD
the last 5 minutes made me wishful it was longer
