      Have you seen one of the last videos from Jay? He was showing some weird behavior on RDNA3 and 2 cards when overclocking. Simplyfied that if increasing minimum clocks too close to maximum will cause the card somehow throtling and actually losing performance even though clocks and everything is correct, rather than just leaving it at 500 where boosts are the same and performance is actually higher. Noticed the same behavior even on my 6900xt

    Woah, great tutorial.
    Undervolt and overclock tutorials for the 7900XTX on CZcams is usually unclear about how RDNA3 works and I often get unstable crashes here and there with exceptionally high power consumption and loud fan noises, while the performance never seems to change much, since the references I saw simply do not understand the structure.
    But with your tutorial, not only have I solved the wattage and fan problem (it's at least 100w lower and the fans were a lot quieter), I also got a decent performance boost and stable game play through out my own stress test.
    Thanks a bunch!

      Not sure if i'm late but Red Devil cards had a batch with incorrect thermal paste placement on the GPU core which results in bad temps. ( the paste doesn't cover the whole gpu plating) Could be the issue with yours too. I would just remove the cooler and re-paste the GPU. I got mine about 2 weeks ago and i don't have thermal issue so mine is out of the bad batch.

      @tamaskerecsenyi3300 I had a launch 7900xtx red devil Ltd edition. Sent back last month due to 30 plus delta in games. Retailer sent it to Powercolor and they refunded it within 2 days, not sure if they even attempted to fix as if its a simple paste job surely it wouldn't take much work, or maybe timescales of going back to Taiwan and back would exceed 30 days so retailer protected customer turnaround times. Got a merc xfx instead and was £300 less than what I paid at launch for red devil.

      @@kerotomas1 yeah the UK got hit heavy with pricing at launch due to high inflation along with the strength of the £ compared to the $&€. Red devil was the most expensive at the time along with the Sapphire but a lot of them now are under the £1000 mark. As much of a pain as it was to be without a card for 2 weeks, the saving made up for it.

      @MuhammadTanveer-gw3pt i actually upgraded to a 4090 cuz I'm wildly irresponsible with my money lol. The 7900x / 7900XT ran amazingly, though and I miss the adrenaline software.
      I play at Native 4k or upscaled and it handled them all really well at max settings with maybe only having to lower a few settings on some games.
      I got the XFX Speedster Merc310 Black Edition 7900XT cuz it was such a good deal at the time. I did have an issue with high hotspot temps but after a repaste with some PTM7950 it was all good. Afterwards, the hotspot temps never got above 78° at 55% max fan speed.
      The 7900x will also handle anything you need and mine is stable with a -30 voltage offset. I ran a 360mm AIO on mine and it never got out of the 70°s even when max boosting at 5.7 for hours.

    There has been some reports on very high junction temps for the reference models of the 7900 xtx, some even reaching 110Celcius.

    • @damara2268
      @damara2268 Před rokem

      Those are quality control problems. Most probably the fault is in the cooler mount system which isn't providing optimal pressure.
      If your gpu reaches 110°C hotspot at stock settings and throttles down because of that you should get a replacement because you won't be able to fix that without limiting the GPU performance.

    • @legendofthes33ker
      @legendofthes33ker Před rokem

      @@damara2268 yup, i also gathered that fact. I read somewhere that if the card is mounted vertically it won't reach such high hotspot temps, it clearly spells poor cooler mount. in those cases might be resolved with tensioning the screws a bit more.
      But haven't found any reports stating that it would fix it.
      It seems AMD isn't accepting RMA for those cards, stating that the temps are within spec.
      I don't have a 7900xtx reference board card, i'm planning on aquiring the Sapphire Nitro + Vapor-X 7900xtx.

      @@mattv3237 Same with my Merc XTX. I can get down to 1040 in benchmarks but I need 1105 or so to get stability across all games. Most games are stable at like 1085, but a few random ones like FFXV needed me to push it higher.

      Similar for me. 3D mark stress test in Speedway via 2x20 runs at 2500 max and 2400 min with 1070mv, +15 PL, and 2700vram. 100% usage it never goes above 86°C TJ, and fans at 1900rpm max keeping it there. All stable.
      Go into Control, and then to the place I know that pushes 100% load as well(underneath Research where all the fungus crap is) and it crashes within about 30 seconds. That is until I push the vcore up to 1120mv and it is then stable again (testing in +5mv increments each time).

    I noticed that when I lowered my Max Frequency that I could also significantly lower my Voltage. At 3000 MHz my 7900 xtx was stable at about 1070mV, however, I was able to lower Voltage all the way down to 700mV when my Max Frequency was set to 2350MHz. It has been stable in all the games and benchmarks I have tried so far! Could you look into testing out lowering Voltages after lowering the Max Frequency please?
    Edit: scratch that. Not completely stable, need to do more experimentation

      @@AncientGameplays Yessir it is...I'm just saying that I'm gonna wait probably 5 years or so to get something of this performance because I like things to be efficient cost and power wise.
      For example my son has a 6600 xt and I have a 3060 ti and those give great performance for the cost and the power draw. Honestly the 6600 xt is the better of the two, I believe.

    People do not overclock 7900XTX till the "110C hot spot" issue is not solved. You don't want to burn your cards because an AMD fanboy tells you that is no problem ignoring a real problem that even AMD and their boards partners is now investigating and trying to fix the problem. This guy is pure evil if he is ignoring this problem and tell you is safe to OC even if AMD knows about this issue.

    • @AncientGameplays
      @AncientGameplays  Před rokem

      You're kind of "slow" aren't you? Even more since these settings will never in the history of ever break your GPU, the max it could happen is thermal throttling lol.
      Also, with my power saving settings (as confirmed in the video and by users in the comment section) you'll have decrease temps on core and hotspot with the same or better perf.
      Sincerely, get a life and stop calling other people fanboys without even knowing them

      @@AncientGameplays And guess what, I just said this today and Tech Yes City just proved that 7900XTX undervolting don't do anything, just like I said he use a hardware voltage measuring device to prove it, and even worse the 7900XTX has an idle power problem where is idling at 50 - 80W when you use a high refresh rate monitor. Dude I'm always right about my knowledge about this AMD cards being problematic and AMD lying about many things that tech people always find out about it.

    • @AncientGameplays
      @AncientGameplays  Před rokem +1

      @@dennythescar80s8 You're not always right, not even 1%. In fact, you don't even have the card.. 50-80W is only for some very specific scenarios or dual monitors and was mostly fixed on the 22.12.2 driver, I use 3440x1440 160Hz and I have it idling at 16W, lol.
      Undervolting does DO effect things, and that's why you have lower power draw once you reduce the voltage. But different frequencies have different base voltages, and when boosting close to the max, the "base" voltage will be the max one in most cases, so the undervolting won't be felt. In ANY other frequency slightly below that (depends on the game) the undervolting can be easily seen by the reduced power draw.
      "Dude I'm always right about my knowledge about this AMD cards", as Bruce Lee once said, "showing off is a fool's idea of glory"

      @@AncientGameplays Well you are 100% wrong, all i said is proved. Your card has a huge problem as well like other thousands cards out there. AMD has a HUGE problem, they designed the cooler wrong the vapor chamber is the problem so is a hardware problem that can't be fix from software, more like a mechanical problem that is for ALL reference coolers design. So, AMD needs to call ALL cards back to replace the coolers if you want the 110C hot spot problem to disappear and the cards to work well without throttling. Proved by der8aurs.
      Again, i am 100% right watch Tech Yes City and see how he only use a single high refresh rate monitor to make the AMD 7900XTX hit over 50W in idle. That is bad. What you are talking about is an old problem, ages ago. What i am saying is a new problem specific with 7900 cards.
      Again, watch Tech Yes City how he clearly said the software don't do anything, undervolting and overclocking 7900 cards is very WIERD do to badly design cards they are.
      If Nvidia had just a few melting cards with the new connector. Well AMD has ALL reference cards with problems, that means thousands.
      I did hope for AMD to do these cards well but once again my fear about AMD being bad at making GPUs was proved again.
      Sorry pale but you can't deny these problems again like you always do. This is too big to be ignored and to say AMD did a good job.
      So i am always right i never lie. I am the devil 👹
