The Mega Truck Series kicked off their 2015 season opener at Rush Offroad park. They had a great obstacle course setup for the trucks and spectator viewing was awesome. This is so awesome to see!! Massive motors and huge horsepower!!! These giant machines gliding across this thick nasty mud as if they were ice skating. Really impressive stuff guys. Simply amazing.

It looked like a fun day in the mud. I think rail buggies could have given them a lot of competition with a lot less horsepower.

This might be a stupid question, but why is their suspension so stiff? Is it to keep body roll to a minimum with such a high center of gravity, or does it help guide through the mud or something? I don't know of any mud tracks like this in the South West, grew up around sand drags, rock crawling, and the likes. I figure the stiff suspension serves a purpose as everyone has it. Thank you

Hi twag0735, I'm thinking the Mega Trucks have dialed in enough rebound damping, and have, let's say, relatively soft-ish spring rates to let the shocks work and 'plant' the trucks landing from air-time. Watching, that may seem like stiffness but not so?

+gophop notice the shorter wheel base helps, and softer rear suspension is helping them power over? they could definitely pick up some techniques from baja/prerunning trucks
+Spencer B Except baja trucks are a lot lower and have much less aggressive tires. These things would stick and flip over if they tried to slide around the corners like baja trucks do. But also baja trucks probably wouldn't make it through the mud in this. lol

If you could tiiiieeee them to the hood of your mega truck show......
When will we get to see some of these trucks tear up a Monster Truck track, especially in the Free Style. I'd guarentee these Megas would blow the doors off Monsters on the race courses. Granted very different concepts, but just sayin'.
They ran some of them a few years ago at the monster truck shows but it wasn't as popular as they hoped.
MadRam11, yeah, maybe because Megas just aren't Monster Trucks, for what Monster Fans what to see? No HUGE tires, no -or minimal- bouncing off the dirt when landing from air time (spend too mush time in dirt-contact), not lifted as much, smaller rigs (what, maybe about 80% the overall bulk?), etc's. that I don't enough about.. .
What engines they using?
most run a big block with a blower, like a 632 or so

funny,after thirty years at dirt tracks,both driving and pitting/watching...i just dont even hear the announcers anymore...background noise to me,when i raced my first hobby stock on a small "under" 1/4 mile dirt track (35 to 40 car fields with 120" wheel bases,it were tight i tell ya)i was really shocked that i could hear the cheering in the stands AND the announcer too..blew my mind.i did pretty well with that car my first two years,my first race...lost my racing virginity..i had a total clean sweep,,set a new track record,won the dash,heat and main,32 cars that night,and we had inverted starts..i was right out back on that A main start..by the time we got to the white,i still had two cars in front of me,,i could hear this girl i liked screaming at me to "go faster idiot"...so i did..lol..that was an awesome first night..17..never been behind the wheel of any type of race cars and a clean sweep..yeah baby...i had many more to over the years
