  • Marseille (2024, Marsiglia in Italian) is the second largest city of France after Paris. Marseille was founded by Greeks from Phocaea in 600 BC and known in Greek as Massalia. Today Marseille is the regional center of the province of Provence in the region of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur. Marseille is located on France's Mediterranean coast. Its metropolitan area has almost 2 million inhabitants. Some Highlights of the city are the Basilica of the Notre-Dame, the Cathedral, the Ancient Greek City, the old Port with the Castle of St. Nicholas, the Archeological Museum and the Pharo Palace.
