I had 2 of these in high school. The first was1972 with 2 litre 4 banger. I sold that to a friend and got a 1973 with a 2.6 litre V6 - huge difference in power. Great cars and hard to find now.

My Dad bought a new one in '72. Years later, in 1986, my first car was a 1976 Capri "ll" with the 2.3 and a four speed. It had an adjustable map light on the passenger side that EVERY rider shined into my eyes at night. They all thought they were SO funny!

My aunt gave me her ‘76 V-6 Capri in the early 90’s. It provided several trouble free years of driving. It was also a lot of fun to drive, especially dumping the clutch at a red light. I eventually gave it back to my aunt and her son drove it several more years.

My first Capri was a '74 with the V6 (orange w/ black vinyl interior) and black vinyl top. I loved that car! My 2nd Capri was a 1984 RS 5.0 liter engine. It was black w/orange stripe at the lower 2 sides of the car. It had the 'bubble back' hatch. It was originally ordered set up to race autocross. It had dual exhaust, a huge Holley carb, racing headers, 15" wheels, 5 speed manual and an integrated whale tail attached to the rear hatch. Instead of the normal 175 hp, the car dyno'ed at 305 hp! Everyone couldn't figure out why mine was so much faster and had superior handling! Lord...I miss that car.🥺

I "cross shopped" the Capri with the Opel Manta in late 1973. I wanted the 2.6 litre V-6 with a 4-speed but the only V-6's the dealers had were automatics. The only 4-speeds were 4-bangers. Plus by then all the inventories were '74 models with the hideous bumpers. I found a "leftover" '73 Manta 1.9 litre 4 cylinder (the only engine available) 4-speed with the pre-regulation bumpers. It was the Luxus model with mouse fur interior (would have preferred vinyl), but mechanically the different models were identical. Buick dealers had just about as much acumen dealing with the Manta as Mercury dealers did with the Capri. So I drove away in a Manta, silver with the pre-'74 bumpers, for considerably less than sticker price. It was a very nice driving car and did many trips between L.A. and Mammoth Mountain back in the '70's!

This was the first car I bought myself . I was 18 years old at the time living in Somerset England. . The car was a 72 Capri GTXLR 1600. Datona yellow, black vinyl top, rostyle wheels and all black interior. It looked "the business ". Wish to god I never sold it , oh for hindsight. They cost an absolute fortune now... later on came a 79 Ghia, silver with full red velour interior, then a 83 2,8 injection , blue over silver. Oh my, why did we sell these cars.?

I bought a '72 Capri 2-liter/4-speed in early 1973; it was brown with an off-white deluxe interior. Like most cars, it had its good and bad points. Good: Outstanding transmission & brakes; awesome interior; excellent paint; really good handling; and the body's build quality was nothing short of Mercedes-like in terms of how solid it was. Bad: The car consumed U-joints like they were going out of style (and because of their design, you couldn't just replace the U-joints...you had to replace the entire driveshaft); running a close second to the unreliable U-joints were the MacPherson struts (you couldn't drive the car at 50-55MPH without the front end shaking like a paint machine at the hardware store...which really sucked when the national speed limit was dropped to 55MPH!); and at 30K miles or so, it became a major oil burner. My Capri was a good-looking car that COULD be fun to drive, but overall, I couldn't wait to get rid of it...

I'd rather have the first generation Capri over that mid-70s firebird. I'm a firebird fan. But after about 1975 I didn't like them until the end of the run. That's a great thing about being a car enthusiast. We all like something different so the prices are astronomical anyway but they'll be much higher if we all want the exact same car.

      @@SquirminHermanthe1eyedGerman I get it.
It’s so odd that one person has awesome luck with any particular vehicle and another person doesn’t.
My 82 and 96 F150s were great full sized pickups, but I lucked out with my 82, as I bought it in 83. It had the 4.9L inline 6cyl, which is what I was looking for. Not a lot of hp, but a lot of low end torque. I put just over 1/2 million miles on that one. I ordered my 96. It too had the 4.9L. I sold that one in 19 when we bought our 4th Ford Ranger. It’s a 2011. It’s a sweet little pickup. It’s a 4WD XLT super cab, tow pkg, limited slip rear differential. It’s mainly used for work around our property and has only 36K miles on it. At our age I’m quite sure it’ll be the last pickup we’ll ever own. It has the 4.0L V6 and a 5spd automatic transmission.
We don’t like silver, gray, charcoal grey or black and our current Ranger is silver so I had it 2 toned, so now it’s Silver over Red metallic. We didn’t like the standard grey and black interior, so I had it reupholstered in Red with black trim and stitching. I also added pinstripes, custom wheels, rear air shocks (we haul a lot of topsoil, firewood etc). For my birthday a couple of years ago I had LineX spray in bed liner installed. The running boards are great for knocking the mud and snow off our boots.
Before adding a K&N intake and a 3” FlowMaster exhaust system, we were getting 19mpg on the highway with the cruise set on 75mph. I now get 23mpg. This year my wife surprised me with a tonneau cover with 3 support beams so it’ll keep the snow out of the bed.
Our 1990 Ranger ran great until it hit 80K miles and then it started burning a LOT of oil, so we sold that one and kept driving our 96 F150. We had just shy of 700K miles on our 96 when we sold it in 19 when we bought our Ranger.
Our 87 Dodge Ram was a POS. We liked our 99 Ram with the Cummins diesel but in only 60K miles it went through 3 transmissions. The first one went out while under warranty.
We had a few 2500 and 3500 Chevys but they didn’t hold up. Our F250s and F350s were bulletproof. I know our guys would tear them up out on the oil fields but if I ever caught them abusing our pickups, they’d get only 1 warning. If they were caught again, they’d be fired on the spot.
Thanks for letting me ramble. Enjoy your day !

Just perfect, simple, reliable and effective and efficient for any and all time in American history. 🎉
Would be great for the environment and the people today even more so than yesterday. Can't believe they hate us so much they refuse to allow us access to perfect things continually and without interruptions. Instead they play games and plan obsoletion for reasons that ultimately and actually don't help anybody even themselves, although they enjoy short , fast, and really large gains, temporarily , it never adds up to anything beneficial to anyone let alone everyone.
I mean EVs are literally killing their owners and burning their houses down and yet they are trying to force this dangerous crap down our throats when clearly we'd be so much better off with just the things that always worked like these cars here that we desperately need now more than ever but nooooooo,
They're really rare and not sold new anymore even though we could do that easily and they're so much better!!
    RIP America 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
