If any one song has motivated me to workout more often it's definitely this one.
The Rocky montages are always a way to get motivated to workout or go to the gym, and this one is the pinnacle of the series. Creed 2 is out next week for us (it's already out in America) but I can't wait to see how Rocky IV - Part 2 pans out with Creed with fighting Drago.
I struggled a lot with my tones this week. Batman Beyond sounded great in my opinion so I used the lead tone from that but in a full song like this that has an actual melody, the tone just sounded terrible and tinny, I spent ages trying to get it to sound right and I never managed to. So just out of curiosity I switched over to Bias FX for my lead tones (I've owned it for about 6 months but never used it) and that seemed to give a warmer tone straight away, I tinkered a little to fine tune it but this was just one of the stock presets. I've always struggled with my tone so it's one thing I definitely want to work on.
I also got a new phone this week (the OnePlus 6 for anybody interested) and I use my phone as a way to check how my mix sounds on phone speakers. The OnePlus speakers are pretty bad so it highlighted a lot of bad things about my mixing process. After that I decided to see what other CZcams guitarists mixes sound like, I wanted to see how my stuff compared. So I was listening through some recent stuff from RichaadEB and FamilyJules, and their mixes blow mine out of the water. I always knew I wasn't as good at mixing but just to hear the comparison was a bit shocking at how bad mine are. So over the Christmas I'll be heading home to spend time with family and I won't be bringing all of my guitars and camera equipment so I'll just be spending time on getting better at mixing and making better tones, and hopefully when I come back in January it'll sound much better.
If any of you guys have any tutorials or books or guides that might help me improve my mixing or tones then let me know, I'm always willing to improve!

It’s funny how things work out. Bill Conti was already commissioned to do the Karate Kid score so he wasn’t available to do Rocky IV. So Vince DiCola gets the job. And it turns out to be a perfect fit, because 4 was a vastly different movie and the more modern style soundtrack for the tone of the film. Rocky IV is a bonafide classic and I don’t give a shit what anybody says. You don’t go to a movie today and see people in the theater react the way they did when Rocky dropped Drago in the 15th round. I was 11 years old when I saw it in the theater and it’s still fresh in my mind how fucking nuts people went in there. Movies today don’t get that response. I feel lucky I came up when I did.

My favorite part of the Drago fight is when Rocky cuts him. Such a big turning point. Sly is a master at creating excitement for the audience.
The original Rocky movie was iconic because it was the classic underdog gets a chance at prestige movie. Rocky II was good and gave some closure to Rocky and Apollo's fighting relationship. In my opinion Rocky III was not that great because it seemed to focus more on Rocky going from fighter to sponsor in order to support his family and the fighting honestly did not seem nearly as enjoyable. Rocky IV was great because of the timing (coming out during the cold war) and how it combined subtle political jabs at opposing countries with the idea that we are all people. Rocky V was incredibly poor, in my opinion; it lacked any of the original grit or the intersocial and interpersonal meaning as the previous movies had and was more of "Rocky is looking out for someone who isn't his son." Rocky Balboa was okay, but seemed to be more of an attempt to keep the movies coming without having too much substance.
I have only seen the first Creed movie, but I do think that it was pretty well executed and, while arguably not as good as the original Rocky, it may have potential.

Rocky 4 is such an 80s movie to the core. All the montages. From the training accompanied with the music, the driving scene accompanied with the music as well a cool factor I don't care what happens to me I gotta avenge my friend, to the underdog training, overcoming and winning. If you grew up or were around in the 80s watching American movies like 80% the action movies were like this, the 80s movies were so impressionable it was a dreamers paradise.
This is unabashedly 80's.....AND I LOVE IT! Thank you for doing this.
