    First thank you for this video. I want to make sure I understand one thing. Basically the OBD port connects to MPVI2 with OBD extension cable or MPVI2 connects directly to the OBD port. Then the MPVI2 unit has a USB cable that I would connect to the USB hub. The AEM 30-4110 has a connector with bare wires. I use that to make the RS-232 Serial Device cable and connect the serial to USB adapter to the USB hub. The same USB hub that the MPVI2 is connected to. Then I connect the USB Hub to the computer. Am I correct with the setup?
    (Basically Wideband and MPVI2 are connected together and sent to computer via a USB hub.)

    Thanks for all the videos!
    I have a 2015 Sierra 5.3, and I just bought the MPVI2 and want to get started.
    I would like to use the tuner on my buddy?s truck as well, and so I am wondering if it is possible to only temporarily install the wideband in a factory O2 bung during logging and tuning. Then replace the factory sensor for normal use, I realize after every modification I would need to reinstall it to update the tune. I don't particularly want to get a bung welded on, and as I said I want to be able to tune other vehicles.
    If I go down this route, what steps would I need to take in order to tune? I'm assuming force Open Loop. Are there any SES/DTCs to disable? Do I leave the factory narrowband connected to its harness but loose, or should I remove it?
    Many thanks!
    Chris

    When pinning out the rs232 connector, do you only use the Black & Blue wires (ground & signal)? Are there additional wires that need to be pinned?

    @robertwcote Před 5 lety +1

    Hey thanks so much for this video! That is awesome info.
    Is there a particular reason that you went through an RS-232 connector? I'm wondering if I can't just take the signal and ground from the wideband spliced to a USB connector which plugs into the USB hub. Is there any reason that wouldn't work? I don't want to include the RS-232 connector if it's not actually doing anything.

    • @GoatRopeGarage
      @GoatRopeGarage  Před 5 lety +2

      You have two output options, an analog and a serial (rs-232), neither if which are supported by USB natively, the serial adapter is the easiest and cheapest way of doing it.

    • @robertwcote
      @robertwcote Před 5 lety +2

      @@GoatRopeGarage I guess I don't really understand what the serial connector is doing beyond being a pass-through then. Does the serial-to-USB adapter cable manipulate the signal in some way?

    • @GoatRopeGarage
      @GoatRopeGarage  Před 5 lety +8

      @Robert Cote yep, it changes the 232 signal to something that can be read via USB. Unless your laptop/computer has an old school DB9 serial port you are going to have to use a serial to USB adapter. You have to think of USB as the highway in which the data is transferred on, the serial to USB adapter puts the wideband data in a car so it can drive on that highway.

    Sorry if this was already covered.. But what about feeding the 0-5V output signal from the wideband into some stock sensor input on the car that is not used (EGR?, AC Pressure?, Some other deleted sensor) so long as you make sure the incoming data is not used by the PCM as a modifier (disabled in your tune). Then you could add that PID in the scanner and set it up much the same way. Would that work? Am I on the right track. lol Thanks (Love all your videos BTW) EDIT: OR IS THIS METHOD EQUIVALENT TO WHAT YOU EXPLAIN AT THE 4:00 MARK? (So bottom line you prefer the serial)
