I was able to do this in 2 DAYS HOW. I haven’t seen a full animatic for this song yet so I was happy to feed the people. 2/5 songs done. I am absolutely going to have arthritis after this saga.
@anthonyrodriguez8788 When you think about their constant food shortage issue, it might be a bit less needlessly cruel than it seems on the surface, they probably ate the tails that they cut off.
I like that Odysseus tied a rope around the siren’s neck, all that pressure on her larynx keeps her from singing and seducing Odysseus and the men. Nice detail.
I love the idea that he had a wedding ring as a necklace. That's why the siren assumed he had a wife and went based on that info and what Ody was saying, kinda just making shit up on the way in response to him. It makes more sense than her knowing about Penelope but somehow not knowing he doesn't have a daughter
Alternatively, she looks into his most recent memory of Penelope and sees her carrying a baby in a bundle of blankets seeing him off and assumes Telemachus was a girl.
I KNOW. I was making a playlist to show my friend epic and an hour after I was like "dang sorry there aren't animatics for this song yet" that first one was posted and now this??
It just occurred to me: Odysseus probably could have fed the sirens he captured to Scylla instead of the six men, but it's possible his anger and ruthlessness made him blind to the possibility.
"We are the ones who feast now." I love that line, so many of them have literally been eaten and now they are the monsters which will eat the ones hunting them down. When the prey becomes a predator. He learned the lessons that Athena and Poseidon were teaching him. He is ruthless now and there will be no mercy to anyone but himself. Love, love, love this, he just dosen't care about the lives of others now
Most of the sailors also died from the hand of Zeus because they were hungry and decided to eat the sacred cows of Helios... So metaphorically and litteraly feasting led them to their doom. Peak hubris.

Odysseus' expression at 1:49 is just so good! He's obviously sooo smug telling the siren all about his plan to trick her and how she played along perfectly. Way to become the monster, bud!
Such a great Ody design. The few strands of hair in his eyes really gives him that ragged vibe. And the expressions are amazing, really drive it home how none of them are particularly wanting to do this, but feel like they have to
This is my favorite song from Thunder Bringer saga. And you delivered everything I wanted to see for this song. I'm a sucker for a good chorus, and when ever I heard "we are the man made monsters, we are the ones who concur" I always imagined this dark faceless mob with white dot eyes. I've just been waiting for someone to animate it. Yall artists are crazy the way you pump these out so fast, I give you my praise and condolences.
I find it interesting to see Odysseus change like this, at this point, not only is he ready to kill the sirens to get the job done but he goes the extra mile to not just _slay_ them but make sure their deaths are painful and drawn out.
this is the second full animatic of this song i've seen, and you cannot imagine how happy i am that this song is finally getting some animatics, it's one of my favorites of the saga. thank you for your hard work!!
OUT-🤬-INGSTANDING I love seeing more Different Beasts animatics and I think yours has moved to the top of my favs. I adored your Ody using his chain to pull the Penelope Siren onto the ship and then explaining himself. That's a level of ruthlessness that's borders on villainous we've never seen from Ody and frankly, I'm here for it. I loved his expressions and attitude throughout too. You conveyed how he's not enjoying this yet is brutally resolved really well. Excellent job. Wonderful style. It's criminal I haven't seen your work before. You've just gained a new subscriber. Bravo
Oh wow, this is incredible. I really like how dark this is, to reflect the mood of Odysseus and his crew. When he was ordering kill them all, it does foreshadow the choice he'll have to make in ThunderBringer, and the flash to his eye, so hardened and lifeless, really hits hard. Kudos!
One part of this song that i feel goes the hardest in my headcannon is that when Odysseus is telling the crew to cut off their tails hes facing away from the net and just slightly turns his head back to them when he goes "let the drown" it goes soo hard and i had to share it, plus it makes sense as hes done with these obsticals and is ready to move on to the next problem... You truly see how he became far more ruthless with even his past self most certainly see himself as a monster now. Before he spared the cyclops that killed his men, but here despite the fact the sirens gave him information and how none of his men were harmed still he didn't spare them. He is forever damaged from his last experience and the torment from being unable to get back to his loved ones, he made a vow to become a monster if it means finally being reunited with his wife.
I like to imagine Odyssues killing the sirens was a way of him blowing off steam. I also like to think that this was the moment where it truly showed how much he changed.
If he was going to kill the sirens anyway, why couldn’t he have saved them for Scylla. Mount the bodies on spears with torches so they appear standing and let Scylla take her pick. Or if they needed food, save the fish part of the siren and have so f’ing Sushi.
I love all the symbolism, it's not that he's just killing to save his men. Its how he's killing. Cutting off their tails and then throwing them in to drown- Odysseus has truly become a "different beast" He's embraced being the monster
