    New subbie ,I love love love seeing esp black women doing great things.im gonna get back into this field ,left it half way ,got married ,moved countries and settled in yet another country -here in SA and raised my children now 8 and 12.its time to get myself back into the software arena.40 not too late to pick from.where I left right? I will just concentrate on software development for like a year ,not going back the full on IT route.lets do this guys its out time both males and females of SA -take up spaces,no hindrances this time, shoot for the stars.I wanna see people here thriving.

      I would suggest Math and Physics as it's a requirement at some universities to study Computer Science. IT is not a requirement but it helps with teaching the basics of coding.

      A software developer simply builds software whereas a software engineer is involved in the designing, development, maintenance, testing, and evaluation of software.

      I think it differs with companies. Some want you to have a degree and others will give you a test to do or a technical interview to assess your skill level.

      My current salary as a Software Engineer with ~1 year experience is in the R25k-R35k range.

      I learnt React Native during my final year. We had to build a mobile app and we made use of React Native.

      It depends on the company. Some just do a normal interview where they ask questions. Others make you code or give you a test before interviewing.

      You should basically be prepared to do live coding. They will probably make you solve a problem live either via debugging some code, a take home assignment or some math stuff. 😭 Some make you write it on a whiteboard. But you'll be fine don't worry

      Been researching on this too, I did IT way back and dropped it at at second year as I moved countries and couldn't continue where I moved to -Germany as I had to do language and start a fresh and later settled in SA ,did other things and raised my kids but now at 40 and yes a biack woman wanting to go back to it but not full on IT rather software development, think my age would be an obstacle? I will don't anyway .I did computer maintenance and network technology first and then moved to IT where I didn't finish so don't really wanna go through all those other subjects and just dive into programming and spend my time on learning that.so age won't hinder right? Anyway i will dive in and give my best and with God on my side, He will open doors,I just have to work hard on my part

    do you think it's a good idea to start this journey later in life? I used to be a software development student but I dropped out because I was super immature and jus not in a good space to take my life seriously, I'm planning on going back next year but I am turning 28 and I worry that I won't be taken seriously having started my journey so late.

      The main languages I learnt in university was C++ and Java. I also learnt other languages depending on the module.

      @@tiroyaonematsime5593 no. Maths is gonna be very important if you want to do Machine Learning/Data Science. But for App and Web Dev, you don't need heavy maths. Chances are, you hate the part of maths you won't ever use
