- In this video I show you how to drape the basic sleeve sloper using French draping methods! This lesson was originally for my Patreons but I want to release it to you all, my CZcams family!
This is draped on a size 8 dress form which will convert to a size 4-6 garment shell!

Susan, this is the best and clearest video I have seen on the subject of draping sleeves. The basic sleeve is the golden key to creating other sleeves so it has to be done right. You combine precision and clarity in this video. I have the confidence now to drape my own basic sleeve for a size 4 and 8 misses!

Absolutely love your channel. Last time I bought a bssic blouse pattern and paid close to 20 dollars, on opening the pattern there were all sorts if instructions to test and adjust. At that point I decided I neef to make my own patterns. At 5 ft 8 in with a long torso I have always had problems with store bought clothes. Now in retirement I have time to work on my slopers and patterns. I bought an ebook and was working on a pant sloper as I don't have any comfortable pants, anything I buy pushes my old age muffin up (not attractive look). The slooer made with diections from the book was good but I was having trouble in the upper thigh, as it widened with age. After watching one of your videos about the relationship of the crotch depth to thigh I was able to complete the sloper. Thank you for such great information and demonstrations.

Oh wow! Thanks for removing the mystery of sleeve making. The flat pattern calculation method has always boggled me, but your way of draping the sleeve makes perfect sense. 💕 Btw, does this sleeve also work for knit construction? What I mean is, would you create the muslin sleeve but then can you use it for a jersey knit pattern or T-shirt?
Thank you for your comment. When you make a pattern in woven fabric such as Muslin. You need to take into account negative ease. So no you have to remove done of the pattern to accommodate the stretch. I can’t tell you how much that all depends on the amount of stretch.
@@susaneliascouture Thanks so much! I’m currently working on draping the knit bodice according to your video on that subject. I’m knew to draping. I’ve been doing flat patterns and grading for many years but always found it tedious. I used to make custom wedding dresses. Now that my children are married off, I have my sewing room back. 😁 I’m looking forward to finally creating clothes that fit me correctly with my drastic differences in measurements. eg. very small waist as compared to bust measurements. I so appreciate your wonderful teaching videos! 💕

I remember learning to move the shoulder notch on the sleeve 1/4” towards the back so the sleeve tilts forward. Is that method still used?
You don’t have to move the dart to have the sleeve move forward. It’s all in the application
@@susaneliascouture not the dart. I meant the shoulder notch on the sleeve. I’m referring the method in the book, The Art of Fashion Draping by Connie Amaden Crawford. I’m not sure if that method is still shown in design school. I love your clear explanations and videos. I refer many to your channel. Thank you.
I got lost from 4:40 to 5:59 in the video the instructions weren’t clear how you got the 6 1/2 measurements for the biceps and underarm is anyone able to help me fix this problem.
