Headhunter's knot- interweave method

  • In this video I demonstrate a few headhunter's knots tied out of a 4L5B turk's head knot. This time we use the interweave method of tying the knot. We tie a regular 2 pass headhunter's knot, a sobre variant, as well as a 3 pass version of the knot.
    The headhunter's knot comes from a family of gaucho knots, but it has a distinct look to it deserving its own naming. The knot is usually recognized for having one and a half of a "V" running along the knot.
    The knot can also be tied using the running method. See a few examples below.

    3 pass headhunter's knot:

    Thank you for these wonderfully clear demonstrations! I use these knots to finish different cordage jobs at outdoor use areas. One thing that would be helpful to me would be to know the difference in weave results on the object. What I mean is that some of these weaves tighten down on themselves, to form a self-supporting woven object that "floats" on the support, while others tighten down on the support and become immobile the more you tighten them. Each has their own use of course. Thanks again for the wonderful work.

    I used a 1" dowel, a 4'-6" piece of 550 paracord and fell short 1" from 21:56. Next time I'll use a piece 5' long. Thanks Mark.

    Hi Mark.
    Love your clear and well videoed tutorials.
    Just for fun and to see how it looks I tied a Headhunters knot then followed the lead and doubled it up with a different colour.
    It produces a very nice look.
    Thanks for all your videos.

    I have been trying for several weeks to follow this tutorial and the guacho knot tutorial. I can follow the "under 1 - over 2" kind of direction - but never know where he is re-entering the knot. Without knowing where he is re-entering, it is a guess at which ones to go under or over. This is very very difficult tutorial to follow.

      Yeah, as clear as it seems, if you don’t know the anatomy of the knot it gets incredibly confusing. Honestly I don’t know how I eventually got this one. I couldn’t tell where he was entering the knot either and had a lot of frustrating tries before I got it right. It’s a real feeling of accomplishment when you get it right though.

    A really eye-pleasing interweave. I've expanded the Turks Head to 6 lead 7 bight, but I'm struggling with the interweave. Can you give me an advice how to start the interweave?

    Hey Mark,
    I'm still learning. I have a question: how does a headhunter's knot differ from a gaucho knot? Aren't they the same?

    • @Paracordguild
      @Paracordguild  Před 6 lety +6

      Hey there!
      Good question!
      Basically, a headhunter's knot is a subgroup of the gaucho knot. Much like the Spanish ring knot, which only has one "V". The reason why it has its very own name is because it has such an unique look to it, that it deserves one!

    Does this knot have any practical applications or is it a sort of zen exercise. Perplexed.

    • @Paracordguild
      @Paracordguild  Před 2 lety +1

      This knot is decorative. It is placed on knot work to beautify it further. In a sense, it is part of practical art.

    Mark, is it possible to tie a headhunters knot with more leads, so thicker I guess. Would an 8 lead 10 bight base knot work?

      I realize yours is a hypothetical question, but an 8L10B TH is not possible with a single strand. Maybe try with an 8L9B TH?
