My art lecturers had one thing to say for artists who lacks inspiration at certain points. Get inspiration. It's simple and straightforward. Surround yourself with artists, listen to inspiring songs, read through your favorite photography magazines or books, attend critique sessions, stick to deadlines and one up each project's skill cap. You can do it and the reward is always great. Never stop.

one other tip i’ve seen (and use relatively frequently) is taking a new route to a spot you’ve been to before. whether that means getting off the bus at a different stop than usual, walking a different/new/unfamiliar route to get to a familiar location, etc.

My modo is do what makes you happy. And It is OK to take a break once in a while. You will naturally come back and do what you are passionate eventually. If you don’t. It just means it was never to be. I say this from a perspective of photography is not my job but a hobby. Thanks.
Also, I like the B&W lighting.

Wow, I really like this video. The honest talk, how you simply work the topic, the humour, the setting is great too, black and white with black T-shirt. Today was a NO day for photography. I did ask myself WHY AM I EVEN DOING IT! Thanks for reminding me to think about the reason I keep going shooting, and what are my goals. I do remember MY first photo. The one that keeps me tied to this creative mean. It is printes on normal paper and framed in my bedroom. I might hv it printed properly to this point. Magic came with this photo. Thanks a lot Frederik. You're such a kind human and I love yr accent too!

I stopped shooting after I upgraded to a great camera that I had wanted for a good while. Eventually I realised that it had happened before and what had happened:
    I’m overwhelmed by the technology.
This realisation unlocked it for me and I just started to just hit the shutter a lot and I’m hoping to let it unfurl from here.

  • @clevershades
    @clevershades Před 4 lety +1

Black and white works, although some angles with the lighting.. you looked like you could be in a Tim Burton movie :P But I agree... Inspiration doesn't just rain down from the skies if you're not shooting. If I'm sitting at home thinking about shots to take, I come up with very few, if any at all. If I am out and about taking photos, I am inspired by so many things that I see with just the catalyst of having the camera in my hands. Motivation is one thing (JUST DO IT!) but inspiration comes from actually doing it, or experiencing it in some way. I would recommend watching those documentaries or reading those books during a period through the day where you will still have time enough to go out and shoot. Nothing worse than watching something that motivates you right before you go to bed :P You don't get much sleep because you're thinking about all the cool stuff you COULD be doing instead of getting rested

I believe another factor for people loosing inspiration is because they compare them self with others, there are tons of good photographers out there. Most of them better than most. This in itself can be demotivational. My tip is to keep away from the internet if you fel this way. This is especially true for hobbyists imho.

So two weeks ago I was asked to photograph a live band and I was very excited.. I met with the owner, the band, and manager. filled my SD card spent two days processing everything going through all the photos.. and at the end they used all the photos from a kid that just had his camera for 26 days.. and the band never used one shot. After years and years of photography I have now packed everything out and stored it away and I just feel like I am just so exhausted and just broken I don’t know when I’ll get back into it if I ever do. Truth.

Crazy about this pandemic is that I found back to photography. But it is way different than it was before. Before I used my A6000 with Sigma prime lenses. After a shoot I got all my shots into Lightroom and tried to be like other photographers. But it bored me a lot.
After the pandemic started I got my old Pentax Spotmatic out with a 35mm and a 50mm and I fell in love with photography again. Right now I am waiting for my first roll and I am excited like a child for christmas 😁
Analog photography really safed my hobby. It feels way different, which I think is important. If something becomes boring, try to think what else you could do with your hobby and then do it!
Your videos (as you started with analog photography) really helped me get back into it. Thanks for that!

Before I use a real camera, I took photos by my iPhone. Just simply want to take photos when some scenes are really inspired me, Then I started to learn watercolor painting, learn about lights, shadows and colors, suddenly my eyes observe more details, and can catch more beauties, either about nature, people or even a tiny moss growing on an old wall.So I decided to use a real camera to help me express the beauty I found. One day, My friend, he is a great photographer shoot street and portraits photos. I picked up my camera to shoot with him for a whole day. Then I started to pay more attentions on the philosophical side of photography, How does taking pictures makes more meanings to me. I’ve watched a lot documentary of some famous photographers, reading books about photography, watching CZcams like yours and Seah Tuck’s. I started to take street photos and portraits photos for strangers, families, children... When they see the photos I took, they are really happy, and that makes me happy! If I catch some photos which really shows some emotion or atmosphere. I feel so happy and proud. And also very important, I can turns this hobby to my career. I had shot several weddings, family photos, events, look books. Every shoot I get pay, I get more challenge and improvements, and I really got pay! If I do something can make me happy and get income, why I stop doing it. That’s my story. Thank you! Frederik

Thank you for the tips and for the links. While I was listening to your message I was applying it to music and becoming a better pianist and if those same advices could work, and if those same reasons to play a piano are also the reasons I'm doing photography. Unfortunately I feel that way only to music, and piano related topics and inspirations. I like photography very much, but not like that piano stuff. Photography in comparison is only a tool. The difference in photo and piano for me is, that i don't need to go out and practice photo, but i do need to practice piano. Both things are awesome, the street photography sometimes gets me high, but I don't identify as a photographer.

He leaves a lot of his mistakes in the video and makes fun out of them. I think that would fit your style very well and it's very entertaining.
I think you have the perspective of a young person new to the field. Image what might motivate you after you've been shooting Mexico City for 20 years, or 30? Still I find your enthusiasm infectious.
