- The 2012 Eurovision Song Contest was held in Baku, Azerbaijan. It is the furthest East that the contest had ever been held.
Baku provided a unique setting for the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest. The slogan for the competition this year was Light Your Fire, which was fitting given that the event was being held in Azerbaijan, the Land of Fire.
The United Kingdom sent its oldest ever participant, 76 year old Engelbert Humperdinck, whilst Russia was represented by the Buranovskiye Babushki who had a combined age of more than 500!
A Euphoric win for Sweden
Sweden's participant Loreen had been the main favourite ever since she appeared in the widely popular Swedish selection show, Melodifestivalen, earlier that year. Her song Euphoria took Europe by storm and Sweden won the 2012 competition by a landslide. The song went on to be a worldwide hit and reached number one in several countries selling more than two million copies.

Yeah, a German company built the stadium, a German designer designed the stage, an international team did the whole production but the hosts, the hosts were local. And they were the worst of the decade BY FAR.

Baku was one of the best host ever, and it was a good year with many incredible performances
I totally disagree. The hosts in my opinion didn‘t have a lot enthusiasm. It just seemed as they read from teleprompter and didn‘t fell/mean it. Just compare it to Petra and Mans in Sweden 2016 (for me the best hosts ever), or the opening numbers in Sweden 2013 and Austria 2014.
Also, in my opinion there were only a few really good songs, there were far better years to come (and even before).

The winner was good (for once) but none of the other songs were memorable at all. 2013 had 7 or 8 great songs. 2017 also had some right classics.

For me the Baku show was the best Eurovision contest of all. I'm writing this in 2021 and the 2012 show is still my Favourite. I could not pick a winner as to me there were seven songs that I would have been happy to see win.

Eurovision 2021de Azerbaycana çok haksızlık yapıldı. Çünkü muhteşem ses,muhteşem performans, muhteşem figür,muhteşem şarkı. Hatta Efendinin kendisi de çok güzel. Ancak hak ettiği değeri göremedi. Ben dereceye girer hatta birincilik alır diye bekliyordum. 20. olması çok üzücü. Keşke yine birinci olsaydı. Ne güzel yine tekrardan 2022 Bakü de yapılacaktı.

For me, 2012 has the most unique and powerful songs, I feel like all of the countries tried their best that year. And almost half of the songs are the potential winners if they had the chance to compete any other year.

Euphoria is one of my favourite moments in Eurovision history. I remember I had never seen anything like it, it was so simple, so minimalistic yet SO poweful, I melted when she said 'I love you Baku'.

saw all from 06 in a pretty short while, first started watching in 09 myself, and this is the first where I was like "oh I remember this song" at more than 3 songs
One of the only eurovisions that actually promotes the host's culture, instead of just songs
2012 was my first proper Eurovision I payed attention and it got me hooked always will have a special place for Baku2022 🥰
2012 was the year I found out that the Junior song contest had a grown-ups version, I remember being so mad at my parents for not telling me! I watched the show the next morning. I don't remember much of the countries but the ones I do remember are songs I hold dearly to my heart 💞

Esc 2012 is my favourite for a long time now, it s just a different vibe, special stage really simple but good looking and big enough, i know every song and all of them are sooo amazing, there was a good winner and amazing show. I do believe 2012 was a year of great music all over the world and I can see it affected Eurovision too 😂 in my opinion I can only say 2014 and 2015 can get closer to this one for now.❤
