Thank you for this blog. I did wedding and party planning for several years . People want nice things, but they didn't want to pay for them. I got in trouble because I was putting out more then they were paying because I felt that it represented me. Now I realize that my time is valuable and I'm not gonna do it. I was guilty of that too. What I have decided now, is if it doesn't represent me from the beginning I won't take the job and I even let the potential client know I have to put out work that represents me and let them know how much they are going to have to spend to get to that point. And sometimes I still like to do extra stuff they didn't ask for because thats just who I am and I love to create, but it is because I want to, and not because I have to.
Me to girl. It’s crazy what what people want and don’t want to pay for your time and labor.
I couldn't agree more! When you're starting out, you're so eager to build a portfolio and just take on jobs that you price yourself low JUST TO GET THE JOB. Just like you, I have learnt the hard way and now choose to follow my head a lot more than my heart when it comes to business and place the VALUE on my time and creativity that is deserved. Good work ain't cheap and cheap work will get you bankrupt. 🔊
They want a filet mignon design with hamburger money lol. I too am in party decorating and at times I get so frustrated because people really don't know the amount of work that it takes to create what they're asking for. I totally value my work and ideas and I make sure that what I put out is a representation of me. I have priced less than what I should at times but like you said "we learned he hard way" lol, but continue your journey and now you have another tag along...loving it. Gob Bless.
Honestly I never realized it was so expensive. I don’t think most people realize that as well because you usually don’t see prices.
OMG!!!!! Finally someone who gets it... I charged someone $150 for balloon garland that clearly was worth more. As soon as i give my price i get the well thats a bit much just to pop the balloons at the end of the night. I do have to say when they see it they see its worth the money. It takes so much time to create, transport etc. Not to mention good quality balloons are not cheap! Thank you for posting this because it made me feel like I am not alone with how i feel. I do feel like I am taken advantage of because i want their event to sometime be better than what it is, so i over do things and even sometimes use my own supplies and not charge. I need to do better stick with it and if i am not hired then i know the job was not for me. Thank you so much This was a very encouraging vlog God Bless!
I swear everything you stated is what I've been through too. So glad to know I'm not alone & I'm not being unreasonable ☺. It's taken me years to fully understand that some people are just not our customers, sometimes the more you try to adjust and low-ball your prices to please folks... the more hassle it is in the long run. It's never worth it. Educating them is key. Explaining the reality of what materials, labor, & travel costs has helped me greatly. People love & favor how the intricate work looks but their budget is more in the basic category. Which is why it's essential to start with a basic package to show them the value in upgrading to create the look they wanted.

Yes finally someone gets it I have been doing balloons for over 10years and at first I didn’t charge what it’s worth so now when charge I charge my time, travel and setup and breakdown .Some people pay the price and some don’t and for those who don’t go to a competitor which’s fine. I value my time, experience and effort and I am single mom.

I really enjoyed this video. Thank you for touching on this topic and talking about it because a lot of us that are starting out in the business this is what we're dealing with it and what we're going through. A lot of people are trying to nickel and dime us and trying to get $1,000 worth of stuff and only pay $150. Thank you for always giving your honest opinion and your honest advice!

I just started doing creations for small events and you're right, when you're first starting out and you want to build a clientele, you try to charge more affordable prices but then you get these clients who wants more done but doesn't want to increase their budget. I told myself it'll be the last time I'm charging for less, that I'll be firm with my prices on the next client. Ahhhhhh! You are such an inspiration!

Its gotten to the point where I felt that I was being taken for advantage . I'm constantly told that I do beautiful work and now I'm going to charge accordingly. Thank you for this. I'm just starting out with balloons but have been event planning and designing for a few years. This was very helpful. I definitely under priced myself for these 3 parties I booked. I honestly just wanted to show my work so I could have pictures and videos from client events to justify my pricing when I raise to what I believe this is worth. Thank you again

I just found your channel. Thank you for such good information on pricing. Your creations are beautiful! You are so right to not under value your work. If people want a cheaper price then they need to find someone that fits that. Not expect someone with higher quality and skill to accept less. There is a reason your work looks the way it does and people should be more than happy to pay you for your talent. Can't wait to watch some more of your videos.

You’re my favorite balloon artist. I cringe seeing the egg shaped balloons. You can tell by your work that you’ve mastered this technique and not just jumping on the bandwagon like other diys. Not to say theirs look horrible, others just have a home made look vs yours look magazine good.

I love this video. I wanted to start a company make party boxes and make decorations and I just didn’t know if I was ready and stuff but u definitely encouraged me because everybody keeps saying $40 for color boxes and $60 & up for my customized box was too expensive but I’ve looked around and I have 18 or more items. So I just love this video thank you

$50????? I'm sorry, but you must see your worth and time. That is way to low. I don't do this kind of work but my daughter is an MUA and when I tell you that I admire her work ethic! You have to charge your worth and you will attract the correct clientele. She always says that she targets a certain clientele and goes for it. Stop selling yourself short. You have talent and believe in yourself.

I like how you use the line for EVERYTHING! I've recently jumped down the rabbit hole of balloon garlands and I am addicted and want to go buy balloons and just make them to do it lol but I've seen some people use low heat glue guns, or balloon dots and feel like the line is WAY more secure and gives you more of a freedom to place anywhere with the security behind it
This video was just what I needed! I’m currently in that “sell myself short”... beginning stages where people take total advantage. I do like that you charge the delivery fee separate. I also rent Uhaul vans for my events and have been eating that cost. I charge $300 as a flat fee for my services and charge supplies according to the client’s budget. I need to sit and rethink my pricing structure.

Thank you for sharing your skills I have been watching you for over a year and I finally subscribe. I love your work and have learned a lot from watching you. I started my decorating 3 years ago and still not making any profit. Everyone wants it for free or discounted. I do my volunteer work at my church to put myself out on the market. I want to do a balloon garland next month for my church banguet, I'm hoping it comes out half as good as yours. Thanks again for all the lessons.
I’ve just started taking clients and I have definitely undercharged and even my husband said so. I do agree that I have to build my portfolio and that’s why I’ve charged so little but I am no longer going to! I deserve more and just like you said it takes time to build and then more time

Oh my gosh these garlands are so stunning, you’re so talented!!! And I really loved your chat about pricing.... I’ve recently started an event and wedding planning business and you’re so right, it’s really easy to sell ourselves short just because we want to work and want to get our name out there, but our time is so valuable!! I need to keep reminding myself that charging more, having fewer clients, and having more free time is much better than working on a hundred events a year for no money lol. Thanks so much for this video =)
Yes, I had to learn the hard way. It slowed things down a bit for me but I am okay with that. I still haven't raised my pricing as high as it should be, but I am actually making a profit now and attracting the customers I want. :)

I knewwww I wasn’t shorting myself!! At first no one was going for it but I didn’t budge. The more I worked the more I perfected and created the bigger my clientele grew BUT THE age changed as well.

I really caught your video at the perfect time! Small business owner, losing a ton of time with my son’s by undercharging and just having a hard time remembering my time is valuable. I price my work the same way in terms of supplies, time and then delivery/install, but I always feel guilty after and lower it before quoting customers 😭 Thank you for this!! Fantastic work love!

So I’m going to start off with balloon garlands/backdrops for now and see how it goes from there. Would you be able to do an example of one of your jobs and price u would charge? Like a breakdown on what the garland actually cost in labor, transport, supplies etc? Not tryna be all up in your business esp for labor so u can leave that part out. Lol!!! I’m just trying to see if my prices in my head are in the tight direction.
So funny I came across this video because I have this exact issue!! I'm always trying to "negotiate" my prices to help the customer out, and in return I ends up not feeling like i'm making anything from all the hours I put into things. This was absolutely amazing! I am struggling with pricing now as well. I love to create and I feel like I want to take on jobs just for the exposure and end up under selling myself! I live in Atlanta as well (loganville) and see that people absolutely love balloons in this area. Keep up the great work and I hope to see more informational videos like this one soon.

Thank you for your video, I know setting pricing has been really tough for me and while I know we each have our own market this video is helpful. Some people don't want to pay but they do want nice things and they are demanding. I had an outside event and people were upset of how long it took to setup because balloons were popping and I tried to fix them as best as I could. It was really hot, there was windy, and humid and balloons were popping everywhere. This is my first year doing balloon garlands and balloons in general so I know next year I will increase my prices.
Thank you for doing this video I really appreciated it because I have been selling myself short and been taking a lot of time energy and everything else to do events. And it seem like I wasn’t making any money from it. So thank you for the tip about delivery charge Charging extra for additional colors. I wasn’t sure about how my pricing should be but thank you for this.
