This presentation is top notch!.... from the drum guys to the tambourine guys with their hand movements to the shakere guy to the singers mouth movement together with the clap choreography..... I enjoyed every part of this altogether.....Great🙏🤓

I only just learned the history of this song, but I still remember hearing it performed by Morehouse glee club way back in 1986 on a PBS Atlanta Christmas program and how compelling and beautiful it was.
While this video was posted over 9 years ago, it was originally broadcast in 1998. As one who has a Morehouse grad as a family member and a friend who performed in the original broadcast with another group-- she pointed me to this clip on her FB page!-- I took great interest when she posted it. When I listen, I often wonder how (or even if) these then-young men are doing now. And I certainly still enjoy coming back to watch, several years later! Thank you, Mr. Trimborn, for posting this video!
As an African who speaks Yoruba, this is the best version because it is most natural and filled with the indigenous passion. The second best is the Mormon choir. The Mormon choir has the best solo too
my community all white community choir is singing this. and I love that it's a black choir it sounds more nigerian and I need to take my 15 year old son who's grown up around nothing but white people to visit this college he needs that awesome experience
If your son is Black and adopted or of mixed heritage then yes he should visit Morehouse, because he needs that identity boost , but if your son is white, then he and you need to share this information with your white relatives friends and community to wake them up to the racism in America and the reason WHY these All Black colleges and universities were started. We need allies, not usurpers.
I recently sang with them because their director wanted our high school to do so. This exact song was performed. Didn't think it was that much of a deal till after.
I knew it the moment I heard it my first rehearsal for Christmas with Robert Shaw all those years ago. It still gives me chills to this day. Can't have Christmas without this.

Then , we need to fight to preserve it because the white man and his woman will try to steal it.

The African musician who wrote this song( Olatunji) , wrote it after he had graduated from Morehouse. It was specifically written for his Ala Mata.
