Just learning slide guitar for 4 days now, and this first video i found from you, is helping the most ! Thank you John. I can't wait ti see ALL of your vids !
I just got a resonator second hand, and spent the last couple of weeks refurbishing it. Your video is just what I needed to make it sing. Really appreciated!
First time I've seen your videos, and I must say they're very good and straightfoward.Thankyou I will follow you for sure as I'm learning slide and your teaching agrees with me and the way I like to learn.I hope you get many more subscribers.
Just bought my first electric guitar yesterday (Sunday), tuned it to open G, and your video is my choice to learn slide. Well presented and well explained. Thank you.
Great little lesson! I like how you get straight to it and teach at the same time (instead of excessive talking) also, cool view showing both hands. You helped me break a bad habit with my slide; I like how you mute the strings to isolate notes.
I already know how to play, just seeing if I can pick up anything new and I learned slide in standard so I most certainly play with my fingers to mute any strings I'm not playing but open G is definitely a different ballgame and easier. Been playing a lot of Blackberry Smoke and Black Crowes lately so open G has been fun and my voice seems to pitch around G anyways. Great lesson man!
They certainly did! Maybe you know...why isn't the VERY FIRST guitar lesson a person takes in an open tuning?...THAT would keep a lot of people from quitting...
That was awesome my favorite tuning as my fingers due to Dupytran contracture does not let me place my fingers to chords in standard tuning. And a great lesson in slide basics!
Do you have it in one hand or both? I've got a few big knots in my right hand so far not trigger finger.) 53 yrs old and just now hitting my stride with beginner guitar. Figured I should plan on a playing in a way that suits not using those two right hand fingers when they do what they're gonna do
@@markust8904 Guess we can thank our Viking ancestors for that. Been wondering if basic picking is going to be greatly effected, since it looks like just my ring and pinky fingers will be unusable. Thanks for the response btw, keep at it!
I've heard folks say that your three other fingers must be used to dampen the strings behind the slide, but unless I missed it, it doesn't appear that you do that. Am I wrong? What do you think?
I use 1 finger ( my index) to mute the strings behind the slide. It’s a little hard to see because I have the slide on my pinky. Damping really does give you a cleaner, clearer tone.
John, you always make it so easy to learn. Thank you!
Much obliged for your kind words.
Great Video ! One of the most helpful teachers on the tube. Thank ya kindly
Glad to help Irish. Thanks for the positive review!
Excellent teaching style. Thanks for keeping it basic and straight forward.
Glad to oblige, thanks.

Slide guitar is fun. It’s worth the effort to learn it. Good luck.
Great stuff. An idiot proof lesson! Just what I needed. Thank you.

Sounds great thanks. I ordered my first slide today (glass). Have been wanting to try slide guitar for years. Wish me luck :-)

Great stuff as usual John. With sneaky changes you can play all kinds of great blues with this
Thanks, slide always sounds sneaky even if you don’t mean to be ; )

My pleasure Eddie!
What a beautiful guitar! And flawless playing too... cheers
Thanks for watching. The guitar is a Mossman Tennessee Flat top.
Best tuning variant for slide-guitar
Good simple lesson

@@wjones284 Have it in both, corrected with surgery, but sadly its coming back slowly and I lost some dexterity,

You’re welcome Sam.
Thanks so much for posting this video, it's just what I need. Need to start somewhere right?!?! :)
Yep, getting started is the key! Stick with it. Here comes 2023!
Fingers are not stupid. What would you do without them?😁 Great job and breakdown for us slide newbs. Thank you for your time and lesson.👍
🙏👌
Thank You John. Wanted something different than the run of the mill o-en e and d. By the way what type of guitar is that?
Thanks James. It’s a Mossman Tennessee Flattop.
Do you use medium or light strings? Great lesson
Light, with a medium G ( .026)
Hi John, this is great as I'm a newby to slide is it possible to tab this out please?
Hi Martin, no tab for this yet. I’ll let you know if I get it done, thanks!
@@jcurtis30water thank you for a quick response.
Martin

Your fingers aren't stupid. They're just misunderstood.

Way to hard for a beginner
Yes, I agree. I never intended this video for beginners. It is an introduction to slide guitar for someone already familiar with some of the basics.
