    I'm an architecture student and I've been a huge star wars fan since grade 4. the world building is what captivated me most about star wars and the architecture is such an integral part of it. The set designers continue to do amazing work in the Bad Batch and Andor especially, and if I don't wind up working in a architecture firm, I think i'd want to work in set design for fantastical worlds like those of star wars

    0:28 and 0:59 These scenes were filmed on location at the Plaza de España in Seville, Spain (1928). It is a landmark example of Regionalism Architecture, mixing elements of the Baroque Revival, Renaissance Revival and Moorish Revival (Neo-Mudéjar) styles of Spanish architecture. The Plaza de España has been used as a filming location, including scenes for Lawrence of Arabia (1962). The building was used as a location in the Star Wars movie series Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones (2002) - in which it featured in exterior shots of the City of Theed on the Planet Naboo. It also featured in the 2012 film The Dictator. The 2023 Netflix series, Kaos, will also feature scenes filmed at the Plaza. The plaza was used as a set for the video of Simply Red's song "Something Got Me Started".

    Ahhh, nerdom at its finest! Very interesting! I just want to point out that the courtyard of Luke's house is not a ghorfa. It is in fact the real courtyard of a real "underground" house in Matmata, Tunisia, which has been turned into a hotel. I stayed there, and even had breakfast in Luke's dining room! Alas, they did not serve blue milk - missed opportunity there. The slave quarters shown in Phantom Menace are in fact ghorfas, and you can visit the ones that were used as sets for the movie.

    Great video! "Princess Amidala of Alderaan" I don't think is an actual person though. Queen Padme Amidala is from Naboo, and was never a princess as that's an honorary elected title given when she was elected to the position. Her daughter, Leia while not born on Alderaan, was raised there, so that part is correct.

    I think you’re ascribing intentionality after the fact to Lucas and the other filmmakers involved in the original trilogy based on how the story unfolded in the prequels and the series. This is poor scholarship and what is a teleological argument that likely would not withstand scrutiny. For instance, the Death Star inverted dome is essentially a parabolic structure designed to focus the destructive laser beams and has no relationship, either functional, symbolic, or thematic to the domes used elsewhere in the architecture seen in later films.

Also, the empire did not have a permanent posting on Tatooine, they were only there to search for the droids so the tower in Mos Eisley was likely not an Imperial guard tower.

    • @feelin_fine
      @feelin_fine Před rokem +2

      Endor was chosen over Kef Bir due to lack of resources in latter, implying Endor was both more secluded and better suited to their purposes materially. Also, thematically, it makes little difference, as the Empire is a generic signifier for American imperialism (in Vietnam, in case of Endor) and colonialism more broadly, which of course comes in extractive and other forms. So... the point was fine. No need to be pedantic.
