    ► FAQ
    Q• Why do you speed up some of the footage in your videos?
    A• We don't, we film it as time-lapse footage. We do not have the battery capacity or data storage to film in real time as our cruises can last up to 7 or 8 hours. We use to the time-lapse footage to help tell the story of movement rather than showcase the scenery. We limit the amount of time-lapse shots we use in each vlog.

    Sadie told me to leave a like and a comment😉. She perked up at the beginning when she heard the birds chirping in the background and then she got to see George running about. 😁 By the end of the video Sadie was conked out on the couch enjoying the central AC and the fan that was blowing cold air over her. We spent most of the day outside in the hot humid summer sun. One thing I would absolutely require on a narrowboat is an ice maker unit. My parents had them on several of their later years motor-homes. Pretty small under the counter top unit but capable of churning out lots of ice. Not to be confused with a freezer. it was a separate appliance from the fridge/freezer. When travelling in the moterhome, I could fill a glass full of ice and poor in water, tea, or lemonade.

    Michael (not sure if spelling correct!) I first come across Budweiser when the Mildenhall air displays were run every year. The USA Airforce sections and their families ran burger bars and sold Budweiser. The burgers were fantastic, they were shipped over from the states, including the Barbeque Sauce. Every time I go to the states I enjoy it. Over here in England, occasionally I used to come across it marked brewed in USA, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Now it is impossible to find. The stuff brewed here under license is rubbish, and has nothing like the flavour. Same can be said of Stella Artois, in France - enjoyable, brewed here, rubbish. Too much emphasis on branding and money, not quality. Oh well, as you say, a pub, a pub, my kingdom for a pub. I shall be a liveaboard in two or three months - hope the pubs start to re-open.....

    • @spencerwilton5831
      @spencerwilton5831 Před 4 lety +1

      MarkJT1000 there are a few theories, but my preferred opinion is that the double bottom gates mean locks can be built slightly shorter by using double gates- remember there must be room for the gate to swing fully in front of behind the boat. Shaving a few feet of the lock length will save a considerable amount of water each time a lock is operated, and saving water has always been a priority since the canals first appeared.

    • @MinimalList
      @MinimalList  Před 4 lety

      I’ve always wanted to talk to an engineer about this one... yeah, arc of the gates is part of it, but there’s also a lot of forces involved at the bottom that are different than the top, since the bottom is supported by much less earth and water in use than the top. One day I’ll get to Cambridge and ask a physicist! M

    • @MinimalList
      @MinimalList  Před 4 lety +1

      Hi Jack; the problem with doing it in a video is there’s a lag between recording and it going up on CZcams, so anything we mention may well have changed. Currently the rule is you’ve got to arrive and spend 14 days quarantined in one location, and that has to be a hotel, rental apartment, or private home, etc... sadly currently not an option to isolate on a boat. Will VERY likely change before September, recommend you check www.gov.uk/uk-border-control every so often as that’s where the updates are.

      @@MinimalList sorry, up late and skipped a bit. Starlink. You keep referring to your internet as WiFi, but it is really cellular data? I know OneWeb is UK based with much smaller constellations than Starlink.

      Drat.
      I should avoid politics.

    • @MinimalList
      @MinimalList  Před 4 lety +1

      No worries... yeah, inside the boat we have a WiFi (actually 802.11G/N) network, but it ultimately connects to the internet over 4G, the router just has a SIM card and a 4G antenna... that’s about the most common way of getting WiFi on a boat. There are TV-and-broadband-over-satellite providers that have single satellites at geosynchronous orbits and you’ll see boats with a dish aimed at those, but they’re substantially more expensive unless you really want all the TV channels, and we don’t really watch TV. The OneWeb and Starlink ideas are different... huge clusters that streak across the sky constantly, and they only work if there’s enough satellites up there for at least one to be visible in your hemisphere at any given moment... that’s a disastrous thing to do to the sky, from an astronomy perspective, and it also significantly clutters up safe launch and orbital maneuver paths, ultimately to provide a service that’s unnecessary. I like some of Musk’s ideas, but Starlink isn’t one of them. M

      I’ve thought about it, but it’d require entirely new antennas (the ones I’ve got have to be on the steel backplane to do their job properly) and would be a l out of expense for something that really only effects us pretty rarely. But it’s on the list for the dream boat! M

    Do you guys have an external WiFi antenna of any kind and a booster or amplifier for your signal? Just curious.

    • @MinimalList
      @MinimalList  Před 4 lety

      Yep, they’re not obvious but they’re the two little black nubs with round chrome bottoms near the chimney at the front of the boat. They’re hi-gain 4G antennae that attack to the 4G router in the boat. They do help, but not as much as you’d hope. M

    I'll let you look up Zaire, Rhodesia and various other bits of African history...

      I’ve looked up a few... and then I found G. Preston Rhodes, mine foreman. M

    As a silver bearded fluffy myself I like your shirt ... I don't like Budweiser ... Actually I don't care much for most beers .... More of a scotch drinker ...

      I’m only going from distant memory, but I’d think Budweiser would put most people off beers. M

    I’ve been trying to locate the “Keep Calm and let the Wookie Win” t shirt, and I clicked on the supposed link, but it wasn’t there.
    Is there another link? Am I being obtuse? Help!

    Aren’t you ever tempted to just toss George’s “leavings” into the the nearby bushes?
    I know I’d be.

      Doggy doings take up to a year to decompose and are just as dodgy bacteria wise as human waste, you can get all sorts of nasty things from it and one results in blindness in children, so George poops and someone scoops for a very good reason.

      @MinimalList  Před 4 lety +2

      We always clean up after George... the bushes are no place for poop. M
