    absolutely one of my favorite tracks from Rammstein, especially for being so recent, just shows that this band has aged like a fine wine, rather than like milk... in the sun... during summertime... at Arizona.

    • @bjornm.1121
      @bjornm.1121 Před rokem

      No, she didn't get it. Rammsteins "Angst" refers to the refugee crisis having occured the last decade turning up societies all across Europe to the brink of disruption, with mass media feeding people with fake news and lies, brainwashing people, making them suspicious of each other, up to the point, where they get at each other's throat, though those refugees (depicted here as a woman and a child), seeking shelter and help, pose no threat to anyone of us. The imagery and the lyrics have not much to do with the corona crisis and isolation actually, as Suzi might think.

      I'm a 72 year old Aussie great grand father and I've been listening to Rammstein for ages, they are so on point, their imagery is effective, I don't speak German but I get their songs, but then I'm a guitar player that made my living playing guitar up and down the east coast of Australia to some wild crowds and endured some crazy after parties. They are a great band, my 4 children and 8 grand children think I'm cool 'cause I play guitar, ride a bike, live alone, (my ex-wife sadly passed early this year after her 2nd jab, yeah I know, believe me I know), and I like Rammstein, FFDP are good too, but Ramm' have that flavour, great band.

    Hey guys, I understand the song and the video as follows:
    1. The song is about how certain "leaders" and media want to scare people to control them. In the video, this is visualised by the red wires, computer screens an TV. Also, the entertainig industry is helping (commercials, online shopping), represented by the cheerleaders.
    2. The dominant colors in the video are black, white and red, which could be a reference to the colors of the flag of the Kaiserreich and the Third Reich. Also, you can say that the world the people in this video are living in, is just black and white, not much grey. It can be understood as a reference to the simple minded people who are for example voting for politicians who are telling them exactly this black/white view (WE are good, THEY are bad). Also, the band is dressed up as the stereotype of this kind of conservative people. Did you noticed that the world in the video changed to color when Till destroyed the TV?
    3. "Der schwarze Mann" (The black man) is a german synonym for a creepy, ghost-like evil. As in the first verse of the song, children are often told "to obey, or else the black man will get you". It can be translated to boogey man in english, but like often, there is another meaning in this context. As said, the video is about leaders who are seeding fear of anything foreign in peoples minds. So, the phrase "black man" can also be interpreted literally, namely refugees. In my opinion, it is a reference to the migration crisis in 2015 in Germany,. Or just remember the plans for a wall on the Mexican border...
    4. Fear is deviding society, in the beginning they are all peaceful neighbours, then bulding walls "to protect" themselves and in the end the whole society collaps.
    Greetings from Germany!

      All the details in the video, actually point to US, and "the man with yellow hair", who's both insane and ignorant,
      but freed from his prison and his straightjacket, and is very loud, when instilling fear in the brains of the naive
      "herd of sheep" who listens to his psycho's bullshit. Next episode in November 2024, in the White House. LOL.

    The starting point is the family, a father threatening the naughty child with the "black man" or boogeyman. But we soon see countries and peoples arming themselves against what they don't understand and thus fear. A powerful chorus challenges idle scapegoating: "Who's afraid of the boogeyman"
    The song has its roots in an eighteenth-century German playground game, Black Man, a game bound up in folklore and plague history, and there are more hints of Goethe’s famous ‘Erlkönig’ (‘King of the Elves’) poem, in which a goblin comes to steal a child as the incarnation of fear. But with the householders locking themselves away, we certainly hear warnings about COVID and Fortress Europe.

    You guys hit the nail on the head without even knowing German. I think it’s about how the media “feeds” us with division, paranoia, and fear. The dancers are literally cheerleaders for the bogey man (der schwarze Mann, in German) and the wires connect like IVs to Till, who symbolizes the bogeyman incarnate.

  • @rudeman62
    @rudeman62 Před 2 lety +30

    thanks for reacting....this basically showing the German equivalent of the boogeyman. In other words, it is a fictional entity that German parents - or more specifically, according to the first verse, fathers - use to scare their children into behaving as instructed even when daddy is not around to watch them. And how we end up doing is developing the practice of guarding ourselves against threats that aren’t really out there, this may result in some people being afraid of strangers. This fear can even result in something like group violence or even warfare.

    The cheerleader moves including the chanting in the beginning and the end are probably referencing the "Haka Dance" done by the Maori, the indigenous people of New Zealand. It is supposed to intimidate your opponent. Rumour has it that Oliver Riedel, the band's bass player, is one of the cheerleaders. But that has not been confirmed yet, AFAIK. The candy which the band eats in the end was called "Negerküsse" "Negro Kisses" back in the day. The name was changed a couple of years ago.

    Hello everyone. I'm German and I've known rammstein for so long that I can't even remember when I heard them for the first time. But one thing is for sure, they treat the first topics in their own way and leave room for interpretation, like in this song angst. in which they sing about the black man and no that has nothing to do with the color of the skin, it's about the boogeyman and fear itself. We are so busy in our time looking at our fears and our surroundings (media, radio, etc.) fuel this fear, and in the end we are so scared that we arm ourselves and shoot ourselves because we know nothing but fear. So mega cool the song is so bitter it is, but at the same time honest and real. Don't live in fear folks.

    There are so many layers of entangled metaphors in this video. It's pure genius.
    But one thing you missed is that Till wasn't being fed this stuff, he was the source. If he was being fed anything here it was the fear being generated by the bile he was spewing. Not sure how the director could've squeezed that aspect in as well.

    My theory about meaning of this video is next.
    People been living together in peace, neighbors weren't afraid of eachother, just enjoying their life, then some people (conspiracy theory) brought madman leader(recent situation in Ukraine where Putin attacked Ukraine and brought fear and lies to Russians by using media).
    Then all of a sudden people who were neighbors and lived happily, started building wall around them, placing cameras and watching their neighbours because they were told that they wana kill them, etc. Started buying guns , expecting to be "Attacked" by neighbour and eventually stated making first shots due to fear which has been brought by mad leader on TV, and killed themselves.

    At the end of the video, they are eating "flødeboller" (at least what they're called in Danish). I tried to find an English translation, and the most accurate is "chocolate covered marshmallow". When I saw it, I was curious to see how many outside Europe knew what it was :P the inside is quite sticky and sugary

    love your idea about the meaning.....i am german.....i understand the song is about the german people....just following the flow....escaping the reality by doing things they get told to do...INCLUDING WATCHING TV which is destroyed in the end....just my thought. cheers from vietnam.

    • @TheOfficialDuBsTeC
      @TheOfficialDuBsTeC Před 2 lety

      Well Angst means Fear and we only see the world in Black or White because "Media" tells us what we need to hear (especially in the Time of this War, East World hears the "opposite" of the West) and bringing back the color destroying the TV shows that the should make our own "picture" of the world. It has nothing to do specially to "german people". But thats just the Video Meaning. The Music itself the meaning to the "Blackman/Boogeyman" has BOTH meaning to it which slightly reflects to racism due to "fear to Foreigners ("Black" people just as ONE example not them at their own) and also boogeyman as they ARE a German Band known in northern world basically are demons which also reflects to the way they interpretated it as the isolation with the circles and walls made people more depressed, feared, angry, black white thinking.. so as always Rammstein leaves room for so many "right" interpretations of the Video and Song, could be Isolation, could be Racism, could be Media, could be Corona etc.

    You are right, it´s a song about isolation and fear for the unknown. Angst vorm Schwarzen Mann can have two meanings! Schwarzer Mann translate Black Man/Alien or Bogeyman! in Germany parents say to her children: When you not brave the "Schwarze Mann"/Bogeyman will catch you at night!

  • @lorgrenbenirus
    @lorgrenbenirus Před 2 lety +1

    Yeah... Song about the "boogeyman", being afraid of the unknown (and the "unknown" here being not just something what isn't known, but also something what has been around all the time and what people would know more about if they'd only took some time to look into it), overcompensating against it. Especially nowadays, when social media keeps pushing on these "unknown but huge threats", twisting facts and people blindly believe in that nonsense, without stopping for a moment, using own brain and doing some investigation to form own opinion. How companies behind those social media sites thrive from sowing this nonsense, because it makes more and more people use them, gives them power over their minds, their thoughts. Force them to build walls around them, making them more separated, so that they'd look even more for those sites, for their nonsense, to feel "connected".
    Basically nowadays "zombie" people who walk around, their eyes only on their phones, who live in and for the social media only and who believe that anything what's talked there is the truth and frees them from making own choices, doing own investigation, even having a little "looksee".

    • @prinz_butterbrot262
      @prinz_butterbrot262 Před 2 lety

      Social Media doesn't push anything. It's people and bubbles within social media.

    • @lorgrenbenirus
      @lorgrenbenirus Před 2 lety

      @@prinz_butterbrot262 Quote the opposite. In a long past perhaps yes, it was barely more then a glorified bulletin board. Now, it's a completely different beast, with them enforcing new rules after every while, telling what you can and cannot say, with whom you can and cannot talk, who can and cannot use it, while playing off the "we're for freedom of speech and expression" message in which they don't believe a bit and laugh about it. These "people" and "bubbles" are now simply basic pawns in a game bigger then they are. And sad thing is, as this song also shows, that they're happy to be those pawns.
