- The street you grew up on isn’t always the place you were born, it’s sometimes the place that feels like home. On this episode of Street You Grew Up On, Kerry Washington and Sarah Paulson dive into this idea. For Sarah, someone who moved around quite a bit, it was the house her grandparents built on Azeele Street in Tampa, Florida. She remembers the memories her and sister created at that house; performing Broadway musicals on staircases and rehearsing commercials in the bathroom mirror. Sarah’s love for playing and completely transforming into characters (anybody seen American Crime Story or American Horror Story?!) came from her grandparents bringing imagination and magic into the home through “Miss Manners”, “The Clean Plate Club” and even “The Boogeyman”.

I love this podcast if it is considered a podcast...it's very interesting to find out the background and stories of people I really admire.
Loving this series. It's very fascinating to know how people were raised and the memories that they hold from that period - and how it shaped them for adulthood. This series has made me think about my upbringing, which was very layered with good times and traumatic times. There are a lot of things that I hadn't thought about in a while, until I heard some of the questions that you'd posed to your guests. Kerry, I'm not sure who you've lined up for this series, but some folks that I would love to get a glimpse down their memory lanes would be Salma Hayek, Lupita Nyong'o and Janelle Monae. They all seem to be very dynamic people, and I'm aware of some things that they've shared from their childhoods. It would just be interesting to hear them verbally illustrate their "how I came to be today's me" stories.

I think this was the most wonderful interview I have seen with Sarah. And I have seen a LOT of them! I love her goofines. She is just so funny. And a lot of the interviews made me laugh so much. I can listen to her talking all day , I really do. Her voice, the way her lips move when she talks ( is that weird, am I the only one? OK) But this one I loved because it was mostly about her younger years. I was hanging on her lips listening to wat she was telling about when she was young. I loved it! And I love how she loves the movie Annie.I know she liked it because she sings a song of the movie in many interviews. I was obsessed with it when I was young. I had a poster on my wall of Annie .( actually i believe it was a piece out of a magazine i cut out.) And I still love it by the way. So anyway thank you so much for doing this interview with her. I loved loved loved it ❤

I enjoyed this episode tremendously. It was a fun ride. Maybe the pandemic made us all introspective, but my musings about the past came out in a foundational playlist, from my earliest musical memory to my thirteenth year. Those years founded my medical tastes.
