  • Here is how we construct our PODD books! This book in particular is Jayden's high contrast direct access book. We start off with draft books that are printed on regular paper and then spiral bound. This way, we can take a few weeks/months to figure out exactly what words we need to add.
Of course there are a million ways to construct a book, but since I've gotten a ton of messages asking how we construct our books I figure i'd share as I put together Jayden's new book! This method may not work for some kids but has proved to be excellent for my group of PODD talkers and makes for easy modeling all day long!
I wanted to add that I highly suggest cutting your own tabs for many reasons but one is that you can learn so much about what's in the book as you cut. I also suggest having a pen and paper available because you may get a ton of ideas of things to model while you are cutting tabs! It only took me about three hours to cut all the pages and I saw a few things I forgot were even in the PODD. Very cool. Also if you choose to laminate make sure you round the edges as they can be a bit sharp!
