    A Pacific Crest Trail Documentary
In July 2022, Grizz and Flash returned to complete the 650 miles of the Pacific Crest Trail they missed in 2022 due to smoke and fires. Joined by their son, Blisters, and husky, Burn, the team started at Cascades Locks, Oregon, and headed south. They encountered extreme heat, massive blowdowns, long stretches of lava, and difficult waterless stretches. They pushed on even after Blisters developed huge blisters, and Flash twisted her ankle while navigating through a blowdown section.
By the time they hit Crater Lake, Blisters returned to school, and a short time later, Flash left the trail due to heat and supported Grizz with a van they had purchased. This documentary gives an intimate look at the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) through Oregon, country often skimmed through by many PCT documentaries. It completes their adventures documented in the 2022 production “A Pacific Crest Trail Coddiwomple.”
Making these documentaries has been a labor of love for Grizz. Along the trail in 2022, he decided he would pursue his love of videography and story-telling regardless of the obstacles ahead. His first production became a success, and garnered hundreds of positive comments, some claiming his story inspired them to attempt the trek themselves. Grizz’s goal is to inspire older folks, or those who face health-related obstacles to consider taking a chance on a grand adventure.

Hi Akwild1, I watched this video last night on the big screen so I didn’t have an opportunity to respond. Once again, thank you! I was quite moved by “Part 2”, we were both in Oregon and Washington on the PCT at about the the same time and enough time has now past that I’ve begun to look back at my PNW adventure with appreciation and gratitude which has inspired a desire to return to continue hiking. As it turned out I received in the mail a map of three Wonderland Trail from my Washington-based hiking companion. I’d dearly love to make a return but since coming home my work situation has become incredibly precarious and working far fewer hours than I would like or need. So, it will be a challenge and one that I hope I can overcome. Again, many thanks for your inspiring content! Ben.

Thank you Ben. I hope your work situation improves. The same thing kinda happened to me. Before I left I had a couple of amazing biz offers that I had to decline, but when I returned most had dried up. That’s the meaning behind my “economically obsolete” comment at the end. However, I’d do it again and again and again. No regrets. We’re planning to hike the Colorado Trail next.

@@akwild1 thanks for your kind response. I’m sorry to learn you found yourself in the same situation. I shall investigate the Colorado Trail. Your (US) trails are so radically different from ours and it’s been a real delight to research them. Btw, I’m continuing to train and that has incorporated some challenging hikes here in Tasmania as well as my regular gym routine. Heartfelt appreciation to you and may your holidays be full of love, laughter and all good things!

What a great adventure to have experienced and lived through. Hope Blisters was able to walk again after his tortures with "blisters" on the bottoms of his feet. Can't believe how he walked like that but I guess when you are on the trail you have limited choices. I'm sure he would not have changed a thing to be able to hike part of the PCT with his parents. Looking forward to more of your videos! Keep strong, healthy and happy! Cheers from Ontario, Canada!!

Thank you. His blisters heeled well, and we're back trying to taunt him into other adventures. Remembering his parents as a bit "crazy" isn't a bad legacy to leave behind.

Ray, you should be so proud of your documentary(ies). What a fantastic job putting together your stories of adventure on the PCT! The music, the dialogue, and of course the amazing photos/videos allow us to drop in on what life is like on the trail. Thank you for taking the time and effort to tell your story. I love that you got to do this with Flash, and also your son, and dog this year. What a great family adventure! Keep sharing your love of the trail!

Thank you Maureen. Some trail philosopher who said "I'll get on the trail until my body says I can't." One of the most enjoyable parts of this whole experience is connecting with hiker folk like you who are still very young at heart. I meet too many people my age who have thrown in the towel. It's exciting to run into people who are still wild at heart. Happy Trails, Maureen!

Thank you so much. The two documentaries I made on the PCT are close to my heart. I am so thankful to have hiked 2620 miles out of 2650. I might return to complete the last 30 miles just for a different form of closure, although it wouldn't quite be the same finishing at the border after a long trek. I've met a lot of people on the trail who are taking multiple years to complete the trek. The fires up North seem to affect the ability to do a complete through hike in one season. Thanks for watching, and your kind words.

Fabulous content, Grizz; thank you for sharing so thoughtfully and eloquently. I really enjoyed "participating" in your journey and found myself with pen in hand to take notes. I plan to start overnight hiking this year at the age of 55. I'm fit, but will start using Flash's stretching exercises as part of my day moving forward. Seems like excellent advice. You two are a remarkable couple and should consider organizing hiking trips for small groups of novice hikers!
Thanks again. I've subscribed and look forward to future content. Cheers to Ya'll from Texas!

Jennifer, I read your comment to Flash and we both smiled multiple times. Nothing brings greater joy to my heart than hearing about someone who was inspired by one of my documentaries, because I put my heart out there, and that can make you a bit vulnerable. 55 is so young. Please stay in touch, and let us know how your backpacking adventures are going. Backpacking is simple: feet, sleep, eat. Those are basically the only three things you need to figure out. Happy Trails!

Before I watched Coddiwomple 1 lol I told my son that I had watched a number of these PCT videos and the women had voiceover or real-time commentaries on the deep growth one goes thru on a trip like this. Whereas the men had the beautiful scenes but little commentary on their inner workings altho their growth was visible to the viewer. Made me sad to realize that they didn’t feel comfortable with sharing their emotional experiences.
