  • It's pointless to try to predict the availability of adequate sources of energy. What we need is an adjustable mechanism to enable us to adapt to whatever happens. We already have such a mechanism: The market helps us make transitions to the future--just as it has done in the past--if it is allowed to operate freely. Our present energy crisis exists because this crucial mechanism has not been allowed to function freely. Our prospects will be much improved if we can devise means to abolish--or at least work around--the government controls that interfere with the production, distribution, and use of energy. "The capacity of the human being to adjust his beliefs to his interests cannot be underestimated". This says, pretty much in a nutshell, how politics works haha.

Simply one of the most interesting, logical, and poignant speeches Dr. Friedman has ever given. A 30+ year old speech that somehow manages to be as entertaining as any late night talk show. He is just the best. A powerhouse of intellect with that rare ability among such persons to never speak down to people but to only goodnaturedly convince his fellow citizens by connecting the dots of his research. Truly a man of the people.

The technology of horizontal drilling and fracking is a great example of what he is talking about in this speech. He would have said “See I told you so!”

The source rock that fed conventional wells has to be fractured to source high cost, low quality fuel. That's your "I told you so?"
Might as well say, "Everything is fine with declining honey supplies, we can eat all these bees!

Is it normal for OPEC to lead so many industries? These industries were supposed to be more disconnected from each other, project based. If most projects are funded by OPEC because infrastructure is not there then this will affect the Government and its form.

Many forget that we need to eat... If we look at India, China, Venezuela we know that first for people to survive they need to eat. Many countries economies fail because they charge more for energy and gas, higher taxation on housing on people that have nothing to eat. How is it not an economic genocide? One, this country's leaders do not speak a democratic language, they can always manipulate by changing data. In any case, all you have to check is what they spend money on. The real problem is how do you deal with people like so. I am going to walk with an axe? Obviously through police officers with the least amount of violence. Most intelligent people are not that united. Understanding Governments, the comfort that they give is not the same as the comfort that your neighbor gives, therefore it is crucial to learn how things work. He speaks of Government spending time on things other than infrastructure and where America misses out. America is a democratic country, so its people are a priority. Russia on the other hand spends more of its energy on infrastructure and sells it to other countries. If you are running out of resources, you would probably want to spend it on infrastructure. Dollar does not necessarily buy it.

If you want to go against the OPEC do not drive? As east as that. If you want a pharmaceutical company to go bankrupt do not buy medicine, if you want food industries to go up buy more food. So these injections matter to the economy. Let us all not forget that there is no free lunch under the sun, so we all need to make a living and jobs that don't pay but promise a training are illegal technically, cause you still pay the taxes at the end of the year. Any tax forms for that? Which really means Government is not promising you a job. To be employable one is not always following the trend. Today many professions are becoming extinct because of what trendy and what's not. How many different techniques are there to the piano? Many. The truth is there are not too many. For information to get deleted because somebody has created some "trend" and Government says either become a good fit, cause majority voted for it... Hospitals will provide a different data on the majority. UK on rabbit meat? Elementary school children not understanding basic algebra? Well, some countries adjusted pretty quick. Imagine studying in a school where majority is suffering with ADHD...What's your favorite subject?
