    On Episode 5 of Season 2, I feature the Channel Islands Mid. This board was the curve ball for the season coming at 7’6”, where most of the boards were short twin fins. However, it did meet the brief, which was boards that make summer waves fun. At over 50 liters of volume it paddled and caught waves like a dream, but I was amazed at how high the performance curve was. Mid are very in focus right now and with this board it is not hard to see why.
    Model: MidLength
    7’6 x 21 2/4 x 2 5/8
    Volume: 51.8L
    Fins: My first session was on the supplied CI 2x1 fins, with a 6cm Central fin (Made locally by Maisch) and my second session I used the Scarfini Bamboo 2x1 Set with a 7.5 Central Fin.
    Accommodation was on the Point at Vic Bay with a 1 minute walk to the channel and a view of the point. We also stayed OuterPool, Mossel Bay, with walking distance to the paddle out for Outers and Inner Pool. I highly recommend booking if you want easy access to great, consistent waves and very low crowds.

    What a timely video... Just got a new board and with a similar leash loop arrangement. Looks a bit loose, time for me to change it out!
    Your guy did a fantastic job on the repair and it was great to you you ride it in better waves. Thanks for posting.

    U surf really well on that 7,6 ,regular guy and also on the rocketwide.after comparing you on these 2 boards versus the other brands I just think there is something really special about channel islands.
    I could see the drive you were getting on the mid length and fairly easy off the top as well and the rocketwide 6,4 looked very responsive under your feet as well.
    Keep up the reviews.

    Great review Kai, love this board, 52L for a 7”6 is low, I’ve been enjoying my Seaside & Beyond 7”2 mid length and it turns really well at 75L, obviously also catch plenty of waves with that float. Keep them coming bru, enjoy your clips

    When you lost your board, did the knot of the leash string get pulled through the hole or did it just untangle?
    I have a standard FCS leash string with a double knot at the end that I wanted to use, but after watching your review I'm afraid it may pull through so just wanted to check what you ended up with

    • @TheRegularGuyReview
      @TheRegularGuyReview  Před 3 lety

      Hey, it was straight through with a double knot. But we figured out there as an issue with the glassing around the leash loop, which has been sorted.

    • @TheRegularGuyReview
      @TheRegularGuyReview  Před 2 lety

      The chilli is great for smaller surf, as very good for turns especially in the quad setup. All round I like the CI best though.

    • @TheRegularGuyReview
      @TheRegularGuyReview  Před rokem +1

      Ahoy, personally I think you should always go a little longer in the mid. Offers you just a bit more paddle and glide and that’s why you getting the mid. So don’t be scared to go 7’ - hope it helps and thanks for the feedback.

I have a mini Mal 8.0 and something like a pyzel crisis also an 8.0 so was looking at something more mid length... 7.0 seems like the sweet spot as it is around the same liters as my 6.8. First man: Great review, I really like your channel! it seems quite the right board for me, 177 cm. 75 kg, would call myself an early intermediate, been surfing for 5 years but not on a regular basis, unfortunately, landlocked, normally I´m on a longboard, but I really would like to try to go shorter, just to have more maneuverability and most of all, a 9.6 footer on a beach break is sometimes really a pain in the ass. if it gets a little bigger, there is a point when the turtle roll doesn´t work anymore with all the volume in my grip. I surf beach breaks most of the time - so I wonder if it is possible to duck dive the CIM? Thanks. David

    • @TheRegularGuyReview
      @TheRegularGuyReview  Před rokem +1

      Hey thanks for the comments - I can duck five the CI and have surfed it well overhead in the 6-8ft range. It’s a fantastic all rounder and will definitely be better suited for beach break than a longboard.
