- Recently I put together bits and pieces from various jazz films I found on my shelves and tied them with the utmost jazzy funky classic Benny Goodman masterpiece. Here it is. For your enjoyment only :-)

I’m a 13 year old kid and I first heard this song at age six and fell in love. I listened to nothing but Benny Goodman from then on! It made me a fan of jazz and swing and inspired me to play the saxophone. I still love this song and all of Benny’s music!
what a great legacy we have, you and I and linda kirby3462 who made the comment before you, to be alive and awake, but not woke, but to love the music from a very early age. and to know a bit of the mystery..
These people loved their life. They had hope for the better. You hear their joy and exuberance. Try to keep that spirit kid.
Loved this song when I was about that age too
KEEP LISTENING,,, Try count Basey ... stop that train
We should get the names of the actual guys playing on this recording in here. Other than Gene Krupa on drums none of them show up in the video. Too bad. They were Harry James, Ziggy Elman and Chris Griffin - Trumpets, Red Ballard and Murray McEachern- trombones, Hymie Schertzer and George Koenig on Alto sax, Art Rollini and Vito Musso, tenor sax, Jess Stacy on piano, Harry Goodman, bass and Allen Reuss on guitar. Those of us who have old Benny Goodman albums with recordings from the late 30's will recognize some of these names but even so, I thought we should include them here as well.
Sammy Davis, Junior?
You missed Louis Armstrong "Satchmo".
@@cliffnelson1174 Armstrong was not listed on the album notes listing the band members.

Is that her name?
What a great tune. Thankfully, so many high school jazz bands still play this one. This kind of music will never die as a result. And that is a very good thing.
Like The Beatles and The Stones, this stuff is just as classic as Tchaikovsky or Beethoven.
@@johnnarez6396 I totally agree. I'm just starting out as a recording singer-songwriter. I am not thinking "classic" here, just "I hope someone listens to my music." But you never know. Right?

Eighty plus years later and this is still such a wonderful piece of classic swing music. And as noted by others, what an incredible collection of very talented musicians Benny Goodman put together (including his own great clarinet work).

He send best mood as Glenn, Miller, Ellington, Lou Armstrong, Nina Simone, Ellington, nat king Cole and other jazz greats players. Thank them for the music. Maybe they are see world from heaven and laughing. Or crying?...
Whole lotta footwork, hip-swingin', shakin', rattlin', & rollin' going on - to the SMOKIN' HOT DRUMBEATS BACK IN THE DAY!!! WHOA!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
As an eighth grader I was lucky enough to see the Real Benny Goodman with an octet in Seattle. Lionel Hampton was with him. Unreal!
Lucky you !
I simply love those years and...all that jazz! Singing and dancing like this remains one of the wonders of humanity.

Loved Benny since I 1st heard this number. I was 5 years old !! Dad was into Swing music and I grew up on a diet of wonderful music. Saw Duke Ellington live in Portsmouth UK. But this has been my top favourite all these years and I'm now 72 !! Gene Krupa on drums was a true master. I'm also into heavy rock !!!!

Now that is music and dancing, what a great band of talented individuals. Class act all the way, Entertainment at its finest🎶🎵🎶🎷🎺.
I love that this includes shots of plus-size ladies dancing with just as much enthusiasm and energy as the scrawny girls!

Can’t get enough of this classic. Today’s musicians cannot be compared to this. Buddy Rich on forums with Gene Krupa makes it special not to mention the great Armstrong.
Don't forget Kid Ory Louis mentor
And Sammy Davis Jr. The "cameos" make it great fun to watch.
i can't say if buddy rich is on this but i promise louis armstrong was not. and that is gene krupa
Gene Krupa my favourite
Dorothy Dandridge was a national treasure. What a beautiful talented girl.
She had the cutest shoulder moves. Check out Sunrise Serenade with Harold and Fayard.
But Alice Barker still holds my attention.
@@leelarson107 yes, sir.
"Sing, Sing, Sing" (not sure if that is the original title) was composed by Louis Prima, and recorded by Benny Goodman in California in 1936. Then Goodman's orchestra played a longer version of it in concert at Carnegie Hall in Midtown Manhattan on January 16, 1938--and the audience went nuts over it. Gene Krupa on drums.... The rest is history. LOVE THIS!! Who said music from this era is boring??? Seriously??
There will never be music this good not since Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey and Benny Goodman has there been such talent. Thank you mom and dad for my appreciation of this world war two era music.
I had the same musical upbringing. They tossed in folk music, too. I loved Glenn Miller. My parents took me to a concert one evening. They wanted to dance, so they carefully parked me at the far edge of the stage where they could see me. Ray McKinley (Miller's drummer during the war and now band leader) looked a little surprised but let things ride. It worked. They played twice more in the next three weeks in Ohio and I begged my parents to take me. Needless to say they didn't mind - nor did the band mind having a 5-6 your old totally in love with their music. I always cried at Moonlight Serenade - such a beautiful song but it also meant that the night was over.
No one wants to hear this music anymore except us old folks. These tunes, this beat, this energy will never be duplicated, why? Because they don’t have what it takes. Even at our advanced age, when this music fills our room, my wife and I get out there and beat the hell out of the carpet. LOL!

I was just playing classic Glenn Miller and Benny Goodman for my 7 year old daughter. Probably the same age as when my grandfather introduced it to me as a kid on the 80s. She slept out of my lap and started dancing. Get kids hooked on talent young and they'll never fall for the modern crap that passes for music now! At least I hope!

That is one hot interpretation of a 40''s classic. Love it
There is STILL no band or group that plays this better than the Benny Goodman Band! Period!
Benny Goodman was a true musical genius on the clarinet, and, phenomenal musical arranger. His compositions, were more like jazz, with that ' swing' . Awesome.😎
Whooo merci beaucoup ! Si joyeux, vivant, festif ! C'est revigorant ✨💃🏼
Written by Louis Prima. But yes, this is the greatest recording ever made.
Yes, Louie Prima composed it. A musical work of genius. Benny Goodman's 1937 arrangement made it even more famous to a wider audience. BG's arrangement is the one played when he had Krupa on drums, Harry James on trumpet, and was at the height of his popularity. The film shown has it dubbed into the sound track. Krupa and Buddy Rich are competing here. These film clips are just that; clips assembled to fit the sound track. A note in passing, Artie Shaw was a touch greater a "reed man" than BG.

what a great swingin tune, no wonder Dad loved Benny Goodman, but God bless him for loving Mom, and bringing me into the world. Desire is God's magic sauce. And loving each other is what we are supposed to do, not kill each other. 3-6-2024 You would think we would have figured that out by now, but some folks do not want to see God when they make love, altho some of us do call out His name.
