    Thank you so much for this video. I’m actually flying out in March for Spring late intake, so I’m a little nervous about the orientation (dorm sitch and medical exam etc!). But your video has put me at ease ☺️

    Oh wow, was that airplane food very edible? Also, how do you survive on such small portion sizes?

    Thank you so much for sharing your experience! This is something I'm thinking about doing next year, so it's very helpful to watch these kinds of videos :)
    I'm curious about one specific thing at the moment.. is it true that vacation days have been reduced to 11 from 26? What's the policy concerning that?

      Thank you so much! I’m so glad the video was helpful!
      Great question about vacation days! I can’t speak for future EPIK contracts but (as of right now) we do get 26 vacation days. We aren’t encouraged to take them all at once (nor do I think we can), but usually people will take half their vacation days in the winter (Jan/Feb) and half in the summer (July/Aug) when the kids are out of school. I hope that this was helpful!

    I’m looking to apply in 2025 but I had a few questions! How early are you allowed to come to Korea before orientation starts? I think I read somewhere you have to meet at the airport but is it okay to come early if you still get to the airport at the designated time? Also I was wondering how strict EPIK is with pet policy? I know it used to be in the initial application (no pets) but I’ve seen people say it’s not in the contract you sign, so does that mean they don’t really care? (I was planning on getting my own housing and finding a pet friendly apartment)

      Hey! Hopefully I can answer your questions, but take everything I say with a grain of salt! This is just what I know!
      I believe you can enter Korea as soon as your visa allows, so you can come as early as that date is but just meet at the airport at the designated time! As for pets, I don’t have a lot of experience with this but most first year epic teachers are required to stay in the housing option they put you in, unless there are extenuating circumstances. So your housing would most likely be no pets allowed (though every renter is different and you won’t know which renter you have until EPIK places you with them). After the first year, you can take the housing allowance. But like I said, this is not something I’ve had to personally deal with!

      I don't know if you are aware of the housing system in Korea. Recently, the cost of deposit to rent is around $100K USD. It is best time get insurance for that because aomw landlord might put that money as an investment somewhere and might not be able to give you back the deposit until someone else rents that place. Just be aware of the housing renting system. Do some research on it.

    This might be a weird question, but did they take blood samples during the medical check as well? I've heard that's one of the tests and that is what I'm most terrified of since I tend to pass out haha

      @courtneyschapter1146  Před 3 měsíci

      Not a weird question at all!! Yes, they do take blood samples. Some people did have a difficult time with this but the nurses were very patient!!

    Did you get your preferred placement ? Or close to it ?
    I am coming for the Feb intake. I'm so nervous to find out about my placement.

    • @courtneyschapter1146
      @courtneyschapter1146  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Hi! I didn’t really have a preferred placement going in and prepared myself to be okay with a very rural area or a small city (based on the province I selected)! I think mindset here means a lot and helps you ease into the teaching experience if you’re open to being placed anywhere! I know that’s easier said than done, but it makes a world of difference in being okay wherever you are placed! Best of luck with your placement in Feb!!

      Thanks for your encouraging reply. Actually I want to placed in a small city. Fingers crossed. I know though schools and co teachers matter a lot more than location. @@courtneyschapter1146

    Thank you so much for this vlog, I have applied for the 2024 August intake and nervous about one thing. Do you know anything about ex cigarette smokers and their blood and chest xray results. Is there a possibility of being sent home

      I’m glad that you enjoyed it!! Unfortunately I don’t know anything about that! If you are applying through a recruiter they might be able to answer that question though! If not, possibly there are some threads online of people in similar situations? I wish I could provide more clarity!

    Haven’t you watched all the videos off ppl telling everyone how bad it is over there ? Like genuinely I want to know. Eveyone made video warning ppl not to take a teaching job. Did you not see it ? or did you see them but want to find out for yourself ?

      Hi! I know everyone’s experience teaching English abroad can look different, but I can say (for me) that I’ve genuinely really enjoyed my time teaching in Korea the last two months! Placement, co-teachers, etc. can really play into peoples experience here and thankfully mine have been very positive!
