The American resolution as proposed was ridiculous and doomed to failure. The US resolution was laden with ludicrous verbiage; it did not call for a blanket ceasefire it called for the “imperative” of an immediate and sustained ceasefire to protect civilians on all sides.” China and Russia are right, this is not an unambiguous DEMAND for a ceasefire and in UN Resolution terminology, entirely unsatisfactory. There must be NO CONDITIONS, total ceasefire FIRST and then negotiate the release of hostages - may be 40 at a time over an agreed period.
The US must submit another resolution this time just demanding an immediate ceasefire, there’s no need to drone on about HAMAS being terrible - that’s stating the bleedin obvious. At the beginning there was much sympathy for Israel, despite an attack that was always inevitable (but not justifiable), it was encouraged to fight back and bring home the hostages; however, that has now turned into cold, sinister revenge, total collective punishments and genocide on a massive scale. The fighting must stop NOW.
