Nice video guys! Try to hold off bugling at that first bull until you are closer. I’m thinking you were a little far out and that’s why he took his cows and left! If you get him located try not to bugle at him until you are so close he feels he has to fight. Great content guys keep ‘em coming!!

Awesome hunt so far guys!!! Think your approach is spot on and very similar to what I do. I love to get them fired up at a distance, then sneak in as tight as I can to them and and get aggressive with the bugle. As soon as they bugle, chuckle, or growl mimic it right back to them and when they come, they want to stomp you into the dirt!!! Lots of times cow calling to them with cows will make the lead cow take them away.

Great hunting setup. I've never hunted elk, but you established with the one bull that he'd gathered his cows and was moving away from you. I believe you cow calling brought him back up in search of his lady, good call. Ya'll definitely have my vote when it comes to knowledge, technique, and time afield. In my experiences elk archery hunting, I have come to the conclusion the cow and calf calls are your best friends. It's good to be able to bugle as well as you can but tone it down just a bit to be less intimidating to the bull. As you saw by the bull herding his cows away when you threw a loud, brash bugle his way to inform him you were coming in to whip his ass and take his girls, it's better to sound like a couple cows with a juvenile hanging around wanting to join his group. Getting on the bulls level is the hardest part of mountain hunting as coming high or low usually is ruined with swirling winds. Keep ya nose in the wind and it'll work out. Good luck to all heading west to hunt, I'm leaving Friday morning for Colorado elk, gotta get those whitetail food plots seeded first.
Great video!! Always a good time watching you guys get after it! Try setting camp below the elk to avoid the evening thermals pushing your scent down to them. Likely make for a brutal climb in the a.m. but may help your chances. Best of luck fellas!! 🍺

It's such a pleasure to get to watch how you all approach the areas yall are hunting. Thus is definitely the most enjoyable and the best show to learn from for us normal guys and gals who never get to hunt these places where they say no you cannot shoot that 140 class buck. Who would have dreamed a few years ago I’d be watching THP getting me excited for elk hunting before whitetails?!?! I love watching you guys in the backcountry, beautiful scenery, challenging hunting and talking through what you’re thinking all the time. It doesn’t get any better than THP! Someday, I want to see Zach chase an elk or an antelope, just like he does whitetails, he great entertainment

I chuckled at alive and unbroken! I been broken hunting elk a couple times in my life and I still wear some of the damage. Also old now but still going after them.
