  • Knowing when the game is going to start a new in game year can be very beneficial to the player in many ways. I decided to create a video on a simple method on figuring out which day on your map is the start of a new year. And then be able to keep track of it reliably. Hope it helps!

      personal I wish a year would last longer. 6 or 9 days would work, maybe make it adjustable by 3 day increments.

      @@bigskytrucker sorry but same greglewis as above at a different computer, but I agree, longer years would make real herd management more do able for more species a real thing, but damn would it take forever to age a black bear 30 something years if a year was that long!!!!

    Thanks again. Agree with sharpening the focus in the binoc's - frustrating trying to pick out particular animals in a bunched herd. But I've got my pencil, got my notepad, and now a few more clues than I had. 👍

      Hey, Uncle! Just had a win thanks to your calendaring! Stumbled on a Red Deer herd with two 4* Mature's in it. Whacko, right? Got my pencil, got my notepad just right, sussed my ambush and went for a snooze. Next morning there was a 5*, tucked in behind a tree and some scrub. Waited a wee while and popped the stag who showed - whoops, 2*. Tracked their spook, there he was, popped him, nope - last of the 2*'s. Tracked their spook some more and got him! Didn't really use the calendar thing much more than one day, but I was on the year roll-over so... success. Excellent info, Uncle! Thanks, man. (My bedroom is starting to look very manly with animal parts)

    Just a few lines to say thank you for your video for starting of a new year.. I had a four star Bison and using your starting a new year I was able to track him until he became a 5 star. He now resides in my Lodge and is my first 5 star.. Keep up the good work. Ree

      My bet is Australia is one of them. Winter map is also a good guess. I would hesitate on turkey's as that would be a challenging animal to model, and the devs have a difficult time with just the ducks

    I have said it from day 1 this game desperatly needs better in-game information for players to have a chans of trying the manage the herds. The in-game animal information means nothing if the players cant use in-game information to keep track of it somehow. Why even bother having the amount of time animals stay at what age stage if there is nothing telling the player what year it is.

    • @bumblewoot

      yes, it should be a basic quality of life addition that is easy to implement. Been requested for 18 months. The devs are a stubborn bunch

    Just a question on way of the hunter, when it comes to Herds. If i have lets say a small group of Deer, or like a single Pair of Bears (male/female) and i just leave them be for a few ingame days, will the population of that group increase by itself? Because i feel like when i kill the male Bear in a Male and Female group of Bears, there isnt a new one in that group for a long long time.
    How do i get my herds bigger?

    • @bumblewoot
      @bumblewoot  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Predator's have limits to their group size. Bears are never more than a pair as far as I have seen. As for deer species the herd sizes are dependent on how many females are present in the habitat. If you play for a while and are seldom hunting doe, than it is most likely your herds are at their max population. Each herd seems to have a limit anywhere from 4 animals to 12 or so.

    Hi! Great video. Question on mature aging. If you have an old mature in the final stages, do they only die after a calendar year or could they die anytime within a calendar year? In other words, do you have time to harvest them or should you take a 5 star mature the second you see it. Thanks!

    • @bumblewoot
      @bumblewoot  Před 9 měsíci +1

      The animals die of old age and new animals are born at the same time. The despawn/respawn happens at midnight at the close of an in game year.

  • @toothlesschwawa

    Seems pretty similar to what I have been doing a while as you know. On aurora, I like using the bou herd east of the parking lot east of the lodge at feed time. It's early in the day and u can see both feed zones from the road. I am very comfortable rolling days, instead of an hour 15 to 20 min of game time hunting is enough to make it count. But is 15 min really hunting. It definitely doesn't work standing by a bed sleeping as fast as u can

    • @toothlesschwawa
      @toothlesschwawa Před rokem +1

      BTW the mechanics like aging and respawns work the same in a private multi for video, and science if u need it, just have to plan the cool down into your sleep timing

    • @toothlesschwawa
      @toothlesschwawa Před rokem +1

      I agree on passing genes, I don't think herd genetics are a thing, it's only habitat gene pool. Having an 80% in the gene pool longer helps, but it is the population curve that matters, not specific Animals or herds if you do herd management

    • @bumblewoot
      @bumblewoot  Před rokem

      @@toothlesschwawa this has always been my thought. But dev communication in it has confused things. There are definitely a lot of the player base who believe it is a thing because they can quote the devs on it. I certainly would not count on it being a thing.

    Does resting still progress time in the year and age the animal if u stay in for 1 in game hour? Just curious Ik this video is a little older but I just got the game about 4 days ago really enjoying ur content very informative and helpful thank you in advance!

    • @bumblewoot
      @bumblewoot  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Three in game days per year. One in game hour is 15 real minutes. So yes that will still work to have a day count towards a year; however, it is actually closer to only 5 real minutes is needed per day (not 15) 👍😀

    So if the old guy didn't pass on good genes, does herd management even help?

    • @bumblewoot
      @bumblewoot  Před rokem +1

      We know herd fitness is based off of the average fitness across the habitat. Some believe the individual fitness of the herd also plays a role. I feel that the individual fitness of the herd plays no role other than what it contributes the the overall habitat fitness. But I do not believe we will ever know for sure. In the example in the video it certainly appears as if the old high fit caribou that died did not contribute significantly to the new spawns.

    • @toothlesschwawa
      @toothlesschwawa Před rokem +1

      From what I have seen, I think that having 80%s in your herds vice having 30%s in your herds will help have less low fits spawn and more high fits spawn in a habitat. So one animal probably doesn't make a huge difference either way, but if you keep several 80%s, it does start paying off.

    Hey Bumbler. Congrats on the wolves. So finally, we have real evidence. Ok, so on a copletely nother dorection, what happens when we take a few adult females from a herd. We saw your lake muley heard go from 3 males to 2 after you took that adult female. So whats with that? What are they(devs) taking about in keeping a balance?

    • @bumblewoot
      @bumblewoot  Před rokem

      I just think the game tries to balance the overall ratio but with a bit of rng. I don't know for sure, but I do not believe knowing would affect the player much anyways. Some things are just going to be too hard to control. The doe popping in may have been trying to balance out some doe that I harvested elsewhere 🤷‍♂️
