2021 Honda NC750X - USB Charger Kit Install

  • My first mod on the NC750XD after owning it for a few weeks. I install the Honda USB Type-C charger kit in the storage compartment. Apologies for some of the close-ups being blurry. The GoPro doesn't focus very well that close. This is my first time taking off the fairings on this bike and it may not have been the best way. Please be careful if you decide to do this install as the panels can be fragile and I do not want to be held responsible.
    As always, thanks for tuning in! Be sure to Like / Comment / Subscribe!

    I just did this mod on my 2021 NC750X DCT and can confirm that you only have to take off the black cover in front of the frunk (4 allen screws and 4 pushpins). Once that cover is removed, you can reach down with your hand and lift the harness up and off the tab that holds the harness dummy cap. Pinch the bottom of the harness dummy cap and pull the dummy cap off. Plug in the new USB attachment to the harness and lift the new harness cap over the tab that holds it to the frame and re-seat it. It took about 10 minutes.

    The fact that Honda requires you to disassemble the entire left side of the bike to put in a USB port seems insane. That said, you did an awesome job with the video. Super informative and helpful. Thanks a ton for making it!

      It's ironic that a bike that is quite possibly the easiest liquid cooled bike to maintain, requires this amount of disassembly to install a port.

      I've gotten used to taking the fairings off but this bike is an utter pain in the arse to work on because of the myriad of screws, push-pins and multi-directional tabs. Every time something needs fitting it has to come apart.

      This is for laughing , please use the right equipment and you shouldn't have removed anything 😂😂
      The portable & compact SAE to USB 2400mA charger for safely and quickly charging any USB device, including your phone, camera or GPS.
      Connects to battery cable with industry-standard SAE 2-pin connector - Seals perfectly when used with OptiMate SAE! !
      Charges 1x USB device with up to 2400mA of current available (or get an optional O-110 USB splitter and charge 2 devices). - Charging current adapts to the connected device for safe charging.
      Creates a weatherproof seal against imported USB cable, or "ride-safe" cap seal when not in use - Worry-free phone, camera or GPS charging in any weather!
      Built-in protection disables USB charging & prevents draining your vehicle's LFP (LiFePO4) or AGM (Pb) battery - Restarts when vehicle engine starts.
      Monitors and displays the battery status of the parked vehicle - Indicates that the battery is 'ready to start' with a flashing LED!

    You can actually do this by just removing the black cover in front of the "frunk". Push the connector upwards from below with a screwdriver. Then you can pull the cable down and grab it under the side fairing. Doable in less than 5 min. Hope it helps someone.

    Having this video running in my garage while I was installing the usb-c port was priceless. I would never have had the courage to pull as hard as I did to get some of the fairings off without repeating that part of your video 3 or 4 times just to make sure. All back together now and working perfectly. Many, many thanks! One comment - I skipped (8) remove left side cover and (9) remove left shroud. When I finished (7) I thought I had plenty of room to install the harness and I did. I agree with the other comments that it seems crazy for Honda not to have installed this on the assembly line.

    Thanks for the video, really helped me a lot. I just installed 2 USB outlets, heated grips (Koso HG13) and LED brake lights for my Givi V56 topcase. I installed a simple USB cable from Amazon in the front compartment and an extra on the handle bar instead of the expensive Honda part. Your video was helpful so I knew where I could get my switched 12V. I would have bet that I would break one of the side covers, the top silver one was quite tricky - at the end I had to install it 3 times because I forgot this and that...no damage except for the right heated grip: I was too lazy to check the position as the left one went easy...I did not see that this was different to previous models and it has ring at the end which has to be filed down.

      I did a few test rides (videos available on the channel) prior to purchasing the NC750. I tried the 2020 Harley Livewire, the 2021 Zero FXS, the 2020 Honda NC750X and the KTM 390 Adventure. I liked last year's NC750X so much that I put a deposit down on the 2021 that very same day even though it was months away from being delivered. The Honda ended up being a better all-rounder for my needs which is why I went that route.

    No way would I have been able to install the USB charger without your video! Very well done. Honda should be paying you a royalty. I installed mine on a 2022 NC 750X DCT. The only difference was the electrical connection at about 9:50 in the video has a clip that clips to the bike. No need for the zip tie although I used it to tidy up a bit of the wire, regardless. I'm amazed Honda doesn't just include this with the bike. The part was only about $35 but the install was ridiculous.

    • @KSSTUDIOS
      @KSSTUDIOS  Před 10 měsíci

      Yeah, you don't want to pull too hard on the fairings as they have delicate pieces on them. If you're talking about the rubber grommets with the push nubs, they can be tight the first couple of times. It helps to pull straight out from where they are located. Hopefully, the video will give you a good idea of where they are at so that you can focus in those specific areas.

It came with a big Madstad screen and there is so much wind protection that I don't need ear plugs and can ride with my helmet visor open..it's pretty unbelievable the difference between this bike and the bonneville. Great commuter. I have the standard tranny. The engine is not like most bikes but I've figured out where the sweet spot is and I can keep it in the torque curve now and it is plenty fast for the street. The bike came with a ton of farkles...front fender extender, rear hugger, that screen, battery tender, Giv pannier and top case racks and crash bars. With 2K miles on her. I may upgrade the suspension but stock suspension is still waaay better then my Street Twins. The Tiger would have been $4k more and It just seemd the Honda would be the better year round commuter...certainly not as fun as the Tiger

    Do you have a vid on how to fit battery tender lead ? cheers Dave

      I don't have one specifically on that topic. If you are inquiring for the NC750X, the battery on this bike is behind a panel in the front storage area. The dealership drilled a hole in that panel so that the battery tender cables could be run through into the storage compartment.

    What if I just want to put an underglow on my motorcycle? Will that USB Tender kit still drain the battery completely????

    • @KSSTUDIOS
      @KSSTUDIOS  Před 2 lety +1

      This USB charger kit shuts off power when the ignition is turned off. It shouldn't cause any drain on the battery if everything works ok.

    I'm really interested in getting a 2021 nc750x dct. I was wondering if you paid cash and if you did how did you break it out to them? Like at what stage did you let them know you were paying cash, if you did indeed pay cash. My concern is the dealership screwing me over for paying cash.

    • @KSSTUDIOS
      @KSSTUDIOS  Před 2 lety

      I financed mine and paid full MSRP since they were really hard to find at the time. The dealership didn't have any reason to haggle on price because they were in such high demand. From past experience though, I never let them know how much cash I'm putting down until the out-the-door offer has been accepted. Hope that helps.

    Is this product a micro usb plug to micro usb plug at both ends? the opening looks way too small to be a regular USB plug. Am I missing something?

    • @KSSTUDIOS
      @KSSTUDIOS  Před 2 lety

      It is a USB-C plug, which is smaller than a traditional USB (Type-A) plug.

      That part has been sold out for quite some time now. I ordered directly from the Honda accessories site when I got mine and had it shipped to a dealer to pick it up.

    I just brought home the exact same bike and it's great. I did notice though that the wind noise is extremely loud on my helmet. I had to pull over and put in ear plugs. I am going to have to research to see if other windscreens are available that will cut down the noise. Surprised at this oversight by Honda.

      I have a very loud helmet as it is, but this bike does seem to direct some extra wind up under my chin. Honda has a taller windscreen available that I may try out eventually.

      I have the same noise problem. Unfortunately, due to lack of 2021 bikes to the manufacturers, the have yet to update their products that are compatible to the mew version. Please post your comments if you find a quieter windshield.

      I just test-rode a 2021 with the taller windscreen on and the noise was terrible.
      I'm going to pick up my brand new 750X next week. Will go for a Givi or Puig windshield then.

      @@CLOUDBURST99 I bought one of those small clamp on wind screens that you mount to the top of the normal windscreen and is adjustable. It made a big improvement!

    why not tie direct to the battery; with fuse and switch; far easier ?

      When I'm on all-day rides, I charge my Sena while I'm eating lunch so it doesn't run out when I'm looking for my motel. I can do this because mine is not switched.

    this sure is not helping sales to use plastic screws on plastic just to get where you need to be. i had the same ordeal on my Tmax ; need a box of clips and sprare plastic; many are one time use only.
