- Britain's Thomas Cook is reportedly in talks with the government and potential investors about a last-minute rescue deal to fend off a corporate collapse that would send shockwaves well beyond the travel sector.
The world's oldest travel company was fighting for its survival over the weekend after its lenders threatened to pull the plug on a rescue deal that has been months in the making.
Hurt by high levels of debt, online competition and geopolitical uncertainty, Thomas Cook needs to find another 200 million pounds ($250m) on top of a 900-million pound ($1.1bn) package it had already agreed on, to see it through the winter months when it needs to pay hotels for its summer services.

Let them go bankrupt.
Taxpayers should never have to bail out private companies
But don't those companies pay taxes ( even though I think they should pay more than they do) which is good for the country?
Normally I would totally agree, alas when it’s a number of family members loosing their jobs when they go under and after they bailed out the banks, and don’t forget the steel workers who have the government to thank for their jobs, it’s hard to agree with you on this one, the only thing I feel is that £200m is not enough, may give staff enough time to get another job though?
@@swagfluSOD Yeah keep it going just to provide work? No let it go bust, bad leadership must never be rewarded or else what would be next rewarding the baker for baking mud bread so no one goes there but it will still cost us money just so his employees can keep their job?
heads up it maybe related to being world wide ' currencies .. heads up stay safe .
Chris Redfield Mmmmm yer ok I kind of get that, let me put it another way, the government give the £200m they carry on, it’s costing the public purse far more than that to get all the holiday makers back, not to mention the 9000 UK employed staff, which most wont get jobs straight away, they will be entitled to instant job seekers, more for the public purse to find, this is not to mention all the other businesses that rely on TC who will also find things tuff, or those who require medical intervention for stress, etc, entire family’s work for them, all lost their job, I had a call from my son at 03:30 this morning crying his eyes out because, not knowing how he is going to pay his rent on his tiny flat, having worked a 16 hr shift last night trying to help with customer enquiries (which as you can imagine was not pleasant) to then have to put out a media statement on their social media just before being escorted from the premises by the creditors and to have blood sucking leech reporters jumping in front of his car trying to stop him to talk to him, he is only young his first real job after finishing UNI not worked for them long enough for any redundancy, his little world turned upside down, x that by 9000 and I personally think the governments job not to help is rather short sighted! My heart goes out to all the staff, even the high up managers they will be feeling this too!
Why ?... it's only a travel company. An overpriced one as well
They actually do really good deals, I got a good one but not now :/
They offered amazing deals
I booked a 7 night fully inclusive in Spain for 250 quid
What is sure is that they aren't gonna get a foreign investor to invest in it w/ Brexit....
Umm really though? the UK has a population of 70 million and growing, lucrative business investment, with or without tacky low disposable income east european ridden EU
Impossible to see this ending well. Once an airline or tour operator goes this far it's impossible to build the trust back fast enough. 200 million is not even going to cover the loss of business this drama has created, and they need better days beyond this.
Why would you even trust a company called Thomas crook?....
The whole British economy is collapsing
heads up France it s world wide.. stay safe .
I thought that was Jason statham on the thumbnail lol
Bail out the people stuck abroad but let the company fail!!!!!
He believed Britons would refrain from drinking alcohol if they traveled. Drinking alcohol is what they do most when they travel.
that is right privatise the profits and bailouts while socialising the losses, does this sound familiar to anyone?
GREAT¡¡¡
Thanks brexit
Oh the intelligence is high in this one.

The Tories have done their magic again...

they got the money from tourists up front, and spend it on???????let them sink,,,
UK get out of European Union
Man let it go bust, grow up and stop giving it CPR. Weird communistic behaviour.
It's wellfare for capitalism, not communism kiddo...
@@aspincelaframboise5300 I am a grown man. If you actually understands what communism actually turned out to be you would understand that it is capitalism for a few. Aka cronicapitalism. Bailing out companies is not capitalism you stupid smuck lol, that is exactly what socialism/communism is. Coporate welfare. It is anti competetative, I studied economics so maybe go lecture someone at your own level lol.
