  • Featuring Blue Angels Pilot, Lt. Scott Goossens | Produced by Ryan Nothhaft
Get ready to be inspired by the remarkable journey of Lieutenant Scott Goossens, a true embodiment of dedication and excellence in the United States Navy. Born in the heart of New York, New York, and raised in San Francisco, California, Lt. Goossens' story is one that encapsulates resilience, passion, and the pursuit of greatness.
Upon graduating from St. Ignatius College Preparatory in 2006, where he showcased his prowess in both football and soccer, Goossens sought a more traditional college experiencing prior to joining the Navy and attended George Washington University. There, he not only continued to shine on the soccer field but also earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science in 2010.
Leveraging his new degree, Goossens stayed in Washington, D.C., where he took a position at an organization that supported national security and defense policy. However, in 2013, he heeded the call to serve his country in a more profound way, embarking on a path that would see him earn his commission in the U.S. Navy through Officer Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island.
Lt. Goossens journey to the skies began at Naval Air Station Pensacola, Florida, in July 2013, before mastering the T-6B Texan II at NAS Whiting Field, Milton, Florida, and later conquering the T-45C Goshawk at NAS Meridian, Mississippi, where he earned his Wings of Gold in September 2015.
Lt. Goossens' skill and resilience then led him to Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 122, the "Flying Eagles," stationed at NAS Lemoore, California. Here, he embarked on a new chapter, training on the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet.
His journey continued when he was transferred to Japan to join the "Eagles" of VFA-115, where he played crucial roles as the squadron's Schedules Officer, NATOPS Officer, Weapons and Tactics Officer. It was during this time that he made contact with David Tickle, a former Blue Angels pilot that provided Goossens with insight into the Blue Angels culture and operating model, sparking his initial interest to eventually pursue a position on the elite demonstration squadron.
Returning to VFA-122 in 2020 as an instructor pilot, Lt. Goossens served as an LSO, Assistant Fighter Weapons and Tactics Phase Head, and Operations Representative. After rushing the Blues through the 2021 airshow season, Goossens was officially selected to the team In September of that year.
Initially assigned to serve as the Team's Narrator #7 for the 2022 airshow season, Goossens swapped positions to the #3 Left Wing after a teammate suffered a cycling injury and needed additional time to recover during Winter Training in El Centro, CA. After a successful 2022 season, Goossens transitioned to the #4 flying the Slot position in the Team's iconic Diamond Formation.
So join us in celebrating the extraordinary journey of Lt. Scott Goossens as he continues to reach for the skies with the Blue Angels, inspiring generations with his passion, resilience, and unwavering spirit.

I am a retired USAF Avionics Technician on C-5, C-141, OA-37B, and finally, the OA-10. The old saying is that the last assignment was the best. We would pass out photos of rearview mirrors looking backward towards the main gate as we left. I discovered it was the best view of the base and the best of times.

I always have known and bragged the Angels flew so tight. The Thunderbirds are cool, but the Blue Angels fly so close it is unavoidable as the degree of skill and the look from the ground is mind boggling. Ever since watching them in the F-4's as a young boy. They always fly ultra close

Just watched the team in Seattle first week of August. Had some challenges with weather and the ceiling. Saturdays show was the most perfect show I have ever seen. Lifelong fan over 50 shows seen. I did not see a single error. As the show continued I focused even more on the show. Flawless. Congratulations to the entire team. Sunday wasn’t as clean in my opinion. Thanks for the great 4 days. It truly is the highlight of my year. Thanks Ryan as always.

This may sound like a silly question, but in regards to the budget of a typical squadron, how different are the demo teams? Wildly different is the assumption, but could it be that the blues and t-birds just spend it all on gas and logistics instead of bullets n bombs? Sorry if it sounds boring, but I'm legitimately interested in learning more about how that comes out, not just for the blues but any squadron. Thanks in advance for your replies.
