#1) THOSE TOMS
#2) Watch the foot cam at some parts, alternating lead food, amazing
#3) THOSE TOMS
hes seriously the best drummer ive ever heard :O
@@IDontReadReplies42069 Name a few you think are just as good (or somehow better!)

Oh man where to start! Depends on what you're looking after, but there are drummers better than him in every category. Benny Greb, Jojo mayer, hell it's a toss up but id say stylistically even the super overrated danny carey is better. In terms of technicality Tomas Haake is leagues ahead.
@@marcobogazzi8446 that's the only name you know out of all those drummers I just listed.
This guy is an insane drummer. And a chill guy in real life!
Chill to hang out with, can will give you the chills when he plays. Perfect combo
One of the greatest drummers alive. Perfect technique, tone, style, and feeling.
That groove that starts at 8:37, and especially at 9:22 is still one of my favorite drums parts. Blake's writing is intentional and interesting
This whole section gives me chills -- and has since literally the first time I heard it -- because of the rhythm section. Insane stuff.
The bridge is just...evil. But good evil. Blake is definitely one of my candidates for Man of the Century So Far.
This song never gets old, just wish i could play like him
Greatest drummer ever..
When I saw them at The Fillmore Silver Spring I got to hang out with them before the show. Such cool down to earth guys! Then when they came on and opened with this I almost died from happiness.
Those are one of the most beautiful sounding drums i have ever heard in my life
i was watching this 12 years ago, still here and completely mind blown- as a drummer myself i’ve evolved so much and can understand so much better what’s going on here 😂
Same same. I was actually at this show and still come back here to reminisce
This guy plays so neat and so calm it's just wonderful to watch.
I watch this all the time solely for the fact that Blake makes a single error with his playing...thus, proving he is indeed human and not a cyborg drummer from the future....
Probably my favorite metal drummer next to Danny Carey
Alex Menendez Danny Carey plays edgy stoner teen rock, Blake is the real deal
@@returntolifeband hahaha wtf?!?! Stoner rock?? Nope not at all..go listen to Opiate, Undertow, aenima, lateralus and lemme know what you think
This dude is obviously sick but danny does more creative shit where its original..Blake is amazing but different than Danny carey and I guarantee that blake would agree
I've never really taken the time to listen to this band eventhough I've heard about them for years. Good thing I found this video.
ok from the album you can tell this guy is talented. but watching him play the whole god damn song just gives you an entirely different prospective. So many small complicated fills i never heard before. mad props
Some of the drum parts Blake writes are just...like...insane, I'd love to get into his mind and understand how he writes such perfect drums for the songs.
im a guitarist and this is one of my fav. vids on youtube. this guy is just fantastic :)
i've seen them play three times and in each of those times he's been 100% on everything.
They're both unbelievable drummers. I couldn't say which one is "better" because I really like them both equally. They both have an insane amount of talent.
You guys really have so many amazing drummers, this guy, Nils Fjellstrom, Jon Rice, Francesco Paoli. OH AND JOHN from origin! It's hard to say one is better than the other, because they all excel at what they do. It's simply amazing.
Digging the shrunk down set up, and his snare always sounds so good! Even through a camera mic.
Tama makes the best sounding drums. Blake Richardson knows how to tune as well!
OMG I was THERE!! I knew I saw a drum cam!
I was so happy these songs were on their set list.
hell yeah! one of my most favorite drummers.
8:38.... i could watch this all day... BAD ASS
I want to see these guys, so badly.
I am also about to watch this for the 50th time...
amazing snare sound. Believe its a Tama starphonic brass snare...14 x 6
So much fun to listen to
Oh my god...
I was front row for this.
really amazing
this guys are the new dream theater!
One of the cleanest drummers I know. Truly remarkable...
That know kit sounds amazing...
pure perfection
Everyone singing along almost brings me to fucking tears!!
That snare drum sound it's just perfect, sorry, the whole kit sounds perfect
God i wish they played this song when i went to see them live. :(
I agree with Powaowa1, you guys should post more videos like this with really SICK drumers who do more than mindless double bass and blast beats
this video is awesome, good job
Won't find many better drummers than this in metal.
This is amazing
Who the hell disliked this?
Saw them on this tour. They played a really fucking good set.
Nice catch dude!
Damn, that was pretty badass!
what an excellent sounding drum kit
And he is recognized! They both kick ass at what they play, end of story.
Goosebumps the entire time. :)
Mirrors is my favourite song to play ever
This is just so.......good
that kit sounds immense!..i'm not into this whole prog thing BTBAM are doing these days personally, however no one (including myself) can deny how technical it is!
Blake is and will always be one of my favorite drummers
This is the best comment I have ever read. I about died I was loling so hard.
FUCK. Too fuckin badass, Blake is right up there as one of the best metal drummers I have ever heard in my life.
1 second in and I already liked it. I knew this was gonna rule
Luke Holland, Matt garstka, Chris turner, and the absolute king!!!! MR BLAKE RICHARDSON
perfection
I came on youtube, to go to the sickdrummer page, to complain about there being no Blake video's.
THE FUCK?!
Thanks, Sickdrummer! MOAR!
Coming back to rewatch this. His drumming is so tight it's unreal. And jesus fuck that kit sounds great. Those rolls at 5:13 are ??????
Goosebumps!
The attention to detail in this man's drumming, omg. I just noticed the difference in force with which he hits the snare on the ride blasts and the china blasts. The little shit!
I can't stop.
This guy is so so so freaking talented!!! It is really rare to see this much talent out of a metal drummer...let me explain. Most metal drummers have speed, but MANY do not have their rudiments down pat like Blake does. He really is like an up and coming Mike Portnoy (not my favorite, but has made talent when it comes to implementing rudiments).
Mad props to Blake!!!
I finally learne how to do 1:56 today! It made me so happy :D
классная группа! спасибо за инфо
he's made it clear thats not his focus. he's just one creative man haha
this is fucking insane! i wish i could have just been a drummer in the 60s nobody needed beats like this.
Hell yeah!!!!
Why are so many people inclined to compare drummers to other drummers like they're a fucking products? Unbelievable. Blake is perfect for BTBAM and is a very versatile drummer. He's extremely dynamic in his songwriting and technique and is my favorite drummer because of that. To compare him to Navene from AAL or Lyle from The Faceless is ridiculous! They are all so good that it doesn't even matter who can do what better than who because at the level they are at, it just doesn't fucking matter.
he's just very relaxed.
on top of alllll the other ridiculous things Blake's capable of.. he leads is double kick with his left foot. HIS LEFT FOOT. that would literally make my eyes stay crossed for the rest of my life if i attempted such feats. he's the best, relaxed, most natural drummer there is.
Those ghost notes make me want to nestle up on that snare drum and fall asleep :D
love the snare
I haven't seen a single video since 2008 in which he's done double bass at those paces, but I guess you've had a more genuine experience than me.
And also, I'm watching Blake's feet... quite a lot of the time, as if just for fun, he changes what foot he leads with. It's just... my mind is blown. If I don't play Obfuscation constantly leading with my right foot, I just fall apart.
who else got chills in the intro?
PERIOD
Wow.
I'd love to meet blake sometime. i'd ask him his influences, how he tunes his toms and how in the hell he remembers to play bombass 10 min songs perfectly. your my hero
that crowd sounds AWESOME
the beat at 2:03 is the absolute best
Ikr
How and why are there 50 dislikes? This is mesmerizing.
Blake's flams are fucking smooth as hell.
genial!
A lot of drummers try to lead left-hand sticking with their right foot and right-hand sticking with their left foot. It helps develop limb dependence. The Faceless' drummer is really interesting to watch because of this too.
@AjaxpuffNstuff yes it does
Ya I've definitely seen that one too, thats why I was puzzled
Solid drummer.
veryyy solid!
BEAST!
Who the fuck would dislike this?
It's refreshing to hear the natural sound of his drums rather than the super-polished compression BTBAM have on their albums and other studio recordings. Sounds totally different and I like it.
So fucking solid and overall a great drummer.
It's because he has the opportunity to write to already very well-developed guitar parts, as long as you really follow what the guitars are doing, it's not that hard to mimic it on drums. The key to writing great drum parts is having a great melody section in the band.
It almost makes me angry that someone could not only play this well, but compose such an unbelievable arrangement of drums. I swear this guy is an alien.
