- Learn how to measure the sugar of different substances using a Brix refractometer in this straightforward 3-minute video. We made this video to go with our step-by-step video on how to compare apple traits, but you can use a refractometer for lots of substances.
See our recommended $20 refractometer here: www.amazon.com...

Thanks for teaching HOW to use a refractometer correctly! So many vids with users pressing the plate down/expelling the liquid …WRONG! and they also neglect to zero it, or even wash between samples. Measurements are only accurate when a refractometer is used correctly.
short and clear, thanks!
Exactly what I was looking for kombucha. Thanks!
My 3 gallons of kombucha was 9 weeks into the fermenting process... I may have let it go too long. LOL, but now I'm curious about the sugar content, one gallon taste good, others turn to vinegar which I just reuse with starters.
Same here. I want to know how much sugar is in my second ferment.
Mine not work for kombucha. 9% brix and after 12-14 days it read the same percentage.
My grapes says is 19 g on the meter what should it be when should I pick these grapes

using the same tool you're using in the video...
Not just water, distilled water is neutral.
How do you take the pucture?
can use this device to measure coconut milk sweetness?
Hello,do you need to always calibrate to zero when you get brix?we made this pineapple wine and we just put the juice directly to the lense but it’s not in the zero at first. Is it the right way?
Do you know what the sugar content should be on kumbucha when is ready?
How do you take the picture?

1 liter is 1000mL. Assuming the liquid is similar to water and has a density of 1g/mL, 1L would 1000g of liquid.
