This part of keeping hens is the hardest part for me. We get a lot of chickens every year, but having to many roosters just creates problem in our coop. But I live in Sweden and its hard to find anyone who would like a rooster, even for food! Most of the time, the roosters end up as dinners and while its heartbreaking, we eat fresh chickens that are not filled with antibiotiks.
So this is the important lesson. If you are going to butcher your animal, never get anything go to waste or the sacrifice would have been in vain!

We also live in Michigan and we had to re-home some roosters and the first one chosen was of course my favorite Frankie (blue maran). I am so thankful he did find a perfect home where his new owner loved him and even sent videos of him having coffee with her after he fed his new flock. (I would go out every morning and drink my coffee with my chickens). Our second one to be re-homed was Wendall he went to a flock of 32 hens. I hope all went well with him he was my cream legbar roo. Had trouble with my HUGE easter egger roo (17 pounds) Gert, who ended up with my daughter and her duck flock ( he loves his ducks). I kept Clementine a Copper maran Rooster, he can be a challenge but he is a wonderful rooster very doting to his girls. I have to have an enclosed run because of the 2 fox families that live on each side of me and the Ariel predators. Within 10 minutes of trying to free range I have Hawks and Eagles swarming. For this I have to be very intentional about the birds I have in my enclosure. This year I was able to bring in 9 new girls for Clementine all specialty breeds that has worn my Boy out so much he does not charge me as much as before. Next year I hope to be able to hatch out new birds and share with my daughter so she can continue to grow her flock. She had added chickens this year to her flock and has had to butcher a few of her Roosters who were very aggressive. Even though she had a hard time eating them they did provide for her dogs. I am thankful that between my flock and my daughters we can interchange some birds to a new environment to see if they are a better fit. I know that down the rode I will probably have the senior citizen home for the hens but that works out for me as I get older and my husband and I also need less. As is we donate extra eggs to people in need, where my daughter has the need to sell her eggs to help her homestead.

Ty acres of adventure. When we got started we had a couple bantam roosters. The smaller rooster worked for us :)

Facebook is a great place to rehome any birds! I feel like so many people are quick to just process them even if its not nessesary. But its the way of life for many so I understand. Thanks for sharing, your videos are awesome. Keep em coming!

I’m happy you were able to find homes for your roos. I was luckily to get one rooster out of 9 chicks
    when I bought them.
Diego my roo started to attack me so I had to be careful when I go out to collect the eggs 🥚. All is well tho 😂. I still love him.

I too like the roosters to move on to a new flock. Sad we don’t have the luck you did. Your one rooster Big Buck looks like my Mr. Mr. He is an Americana. I don’t try to pick mine up, but mines are very nice rooster and I’ve had others that I have picked up and they ended up being not so nice so I leave 😢 and let him be a rooster and not worry about him.💕NonnaGrace 🐓

Love your video. We have same problem, to many roosters. It's so hard to get rid of them when you raise them since they were hatched in incubator. I feel they are like my pets , but some of them turned out to be so mean

Chickens are affected by the length of daylight and the molt in the fall which causes them to basically stop egg laying.

Yep. That's what happened to us. 50-50. Found a couple of good farms that could use them. They were great roosters. They were great with the hens and with us humans:) We're so happy that we found them good farms they can enjoy the rest of their lives at. We kept one. Boy, it was hard to decided which one to keep, let me tell ya. But, he's a sweet boy and should do good after a few days adjusting without the other ones around. (we just gifted our roosters today).

I started with 6 chicks this year all sexed as females 😂 well we now have one rooster and 5 hens, I’m lucky he had been a gentleman so far and hopefully next year we can get him more hens to care for. And that I live outside the city limits where a rooster is allowed etc. sounds like all of the new homes are great for them, that must feel good.

You can not have so many roosters in a flock. My main roo has almost been killed twice. I remove the newbie’s. The flock is more peaceful and I don’t have to worry about a mean rooster. What he is doing is farm life, people that doesn’t raise chickens haven’t got a clue it’s the hardest part of raising chickens.

I can't believe what you did Tom. They are friendly creatures that want to be alive and enjoy being with others. Just because you prefers chickens over roosters doesnt mean you have to get rid of them. You can make them have a small little area to be alone or give them 1 hen to be with. If you are going to do a giveaway I would want to keep them. Pleade dont let the roosters suffer and give them a chance to live. Hope you read this Tom.

Well that’s exactly what he did. He gave them to homes who needed them. There’s nothing wrong with not wanting a bunch of roosters. Everyone has different needs.
