WINTERSUN - STORM w/ Lyrics! + Time II Clips! - Peak Version!

- As far as I know, this is the closest version of Storm to the studio recording on YT (and that's not saying much.)
I took the best sounding live performance I know of, and added in every single scrap of high-quality recorded material of Storm released by Wintersun over the years.
INCLUDES:
- The Time II sound clips from the TIME PACKAGE video.
- All member playthroughs from the 'Wintersun NEW SONG Premiere' video from 2018.
- All instrumental snippets from the same video.
- A version I personally modified of the credits music from the same video (the Storm intro, minus piano), but spliced with live versions.
Lyrics taken from fan material from over the years, and compared against the low-res Time II booklet images to deduce the entire lyrics.
It sounds like a lot of effort went into this but it only took me a few hours. I think it turned out pretty well, and is, I'm PRETTY SURE, the closest to studio quality we can possibly get until the Time II release on August 30...
UNLESS Wintersun magically releases any more Storm sound bites before then, which is doubtful.

More than a breakup song (like some people are writing) it sounds to me that this record is more about losing someone dear (death), be it a lover (as some other songs trough the catalogue would suggest) or a friend/family member... Wintersun lyrics are really strange, so archetypal and primordial yet so profound, like an eternal story with no begining and end, but only depth. Maybe I'm reading too much into this but the ability to combine music and lyrics into perfect harmony and feeling is really rare.
I have a hypothesis, which is likely wrong: Time II is different stages of Love and grief. 1. "The Way of the Fire" is where the love is flourishing with fiery passion. 2. "One With The Shadows" is where the love is fading away and he's bargaining. 3. "Storm" is the breakup and he's filled with rage 4. "Silver Leaves" is acceptance and/or depression (even perhaps being suicidal).

@@TheRogueDM idk it's "just" an intro, so I don't count it as a separate song, although it's going to be a hell of an intro to the album. Secondly it was not originally even meant to be there. Jari wrote it after the decision to split the album into two was made.
Well Jari did lose his father who he references in Summer ("father of shadows that forever sleeps"), so yes it's possible. A wistful and pale look sounds like someone on their deathbed.
But this was written long before his father passed. @@TheRogueDM

This album will be huge.
What i am speculating during this whole time 2 phase of wintersun, with the new lyrics emerging from Time 2 is how the story is forming throughout both time 1 and 2, since its a concept album
Lyrics on Sons refering to "thought it was you who would save the sun" probs refering to the way of the fire and one with the shadows, where the sun (metaphorically) dies. And later in Sons "... revealing that this land will Die" refering to Storm and probs Silver leaves. The song Time (and darkness and frost) also serves as a premonition to Storm "Leave now for a while before the Storm awakens" etc etc.
There are layers to this, and not just in the music

@@Dincorta yeh in an interview from 2007 or 8, jari talked stated tha the album was about his view of the human life experience "basically you die at the end of the album". So the album seems to be full of metafors relating to human emotions
@@warriorsponnie8467That’s a really cool concept… So let me think. Sons of Winter and Stars = Birth. Land of Snow and Sorrow = The World/Home. Time = The concept of Time/Realisation that the self will die. Way of the Fire = Passion/Purpose (that’s what I’ve always gotten from the lyrics) - So about finding your place in this world for the short time you have. One with the Shadows = no clue yet. Storm = Love and Loss? Silver Leaves = Death? Transcendence?
That’s my initial thoughts of what you said. Could be really cool to look at Time in this way.

since i heard it with the reveal of time II i knew that Storm has an important role in Time II and for Jari... I remembered he mentioned Storm was created in the middle of a hard part of life of Jari.... So since he said that, Storm got a huge meaning and emotional job for us. Everytime i am hearing and repeating it i am falling in love with it.

Well, he did sacrifice at least 18 years (counting from the original plan of 2006) to get all of this finally done, so...hindsight checks out.
This song is really growing on me. Especially the part at 3:09 is amazing, reminds me of listening to Nightwish for the first time
I’ve seen a lot of people say they didn’t really like Storm at first but it’s growing on them! 7:15 onwards is also an amazing section I can’t wait to hear on the album.

Grabbed the clips from there, as well as the credits music which is essentially the full Storm intro minus piano, and a couple instrumental soundbites to make a couple of the other sections pop. Jari gave us the ingredients long ago for a decent fan edit 😉

I did think about it but I feel it's quite covered ground as you said. Storm content is lacking for sure. I'll look for some stuff that Wintersun may have put out for Fire and see if I get inspired!

The song itself is wonderful, but I wonder why Kai Hahto rated it as the hardest one to play in the latest Wintersun Q&A. Based on the drum clips, it seems much easier than Sons of Winter and Stars. Maybe Kai plays it differently than Heikki.
My guess would be that Storm is a lot more constant than Sons. Sons changes its rhythm up a few times, giving Kai’s legs a short break here and there. Storm is a lot more full-on, going from solid sections of constant double bass into more double bass but in more structured bursts. And although Sons has its own off-beat accented moments, Storm has sections that have a few more. Maybe Kai could be talking about Storm being the hardest one to get right? Listening back, Heikki and Kai both play it pretty similarly 🤔
and remember we are also missing 4 minutes of this song that they have never played live, and that Jari has recently called “a surprise.” We also have info from Kai that Storm has a crazy violin section, which we don’t hear in this version. So my guess is, the missing 4 minutes contains a crazy violin section, along with some of the hardest drums Kai’s had to play… I’m looking forward to finding out!

I can’t think what the other 4 minutes could be in Storm. Intrumental outro makes sense but not for 4 minutes! And the booklet artwork doesn’t show any extra lyrics… Mystifying 🤔

@@Dincorta In 2007, Kai told in the old Wintersun forums that Storm has "crazy violins". Now, he might've been talking about the violins that seem to be behind this riff 2:20 but
I always thought that he meant a solo section. There might be a middle part missing and an outro, who knows.

Heikki was their tour drummer in 2018.
Time II was mostly recorded in 2006 with Kai.
According to what is shown on the time package, the song is 12 minutes long.
Yeah, no clue what that missing time could be. They’ve never played those extra minutes live.

The part with jari singing at 6:50 is not really in sync with the song, feels a bit weird.
There's something that bugs me more tho: from the track list, the song is 12:15 long, and that doesn't even count Ominous Clouds (2:22), which is supposed to be the intro...there is a big part of the song they never played, apparently?
Yeah he sings it a little bit off… I actually cut that into 3 pieces and each one’s been sped up or slowed down by about 4% to make them fit better. But I stopped short of cutting up every line, just didn’t have the time! You can see that some lines are perfectly in sync and others just aren’t. I put it down to Jari giving it a dramatic flair for the video!
And yes I had that same thought about Storm’s length!! We always thought the guitar and piano intro was Ominous Clouds but it can’t be. I’m guessing there’s some more instrumental padding to finish out the album track, like at the end of the original version of Time. 🤷🏻♂️ Guess we’ll find out.

I wasn't big on this song when I first heard it, so I can kinda see where you're coming from, but it's really grown on me a lot. I'm very excited to hear Silver Leaves too! Thanks for watching anyway.

@Jairon_Junior he's said in a few interviews over the years it's the best song he's written. And that he showed one of his mates who only like black metal, and his mate started crying saying it was the most beautiful music.
It's an oriental ballad with beautiful melodies. Even when he was hyping Loneliness before the forest seasons came out, he said "it's similar to Silver Leaves, but not as beautiful".
