In a world reduced to a few surviving Colonies, Laurence Fishburne is definitely the kind of guy you'd trust to lead you out of the cold. Laurence recently sat down with George to talk about his new role in 'The Colony'. But he also took the time to tell us a few stories from a career that began before he was a teenager and has included an Oscar-nominated role in the Ike and Tina Turner biopic, 'What's Love Got to Do With It" and the part of Morpheus in the Matrix Trilogy.
To see more of Laurence, check out 'The Colony', in theatres April 26th. Also be sure to check him out in 'Hannibal' on City.
In this clip, Laurence recalls telling a small fib to get a part in one of the greatest movies of all time.

Good to see Laurence taking time to do this interview just before heading off to bed.
💀
Only this guy can rock some pajamas in an interview.
+Nicolás Caro those are african garments. not pajamas.
+BBass TheIllest not to be overly precise, but there is no much difference. Pijama is a loanword from persian, roughly meaning garment for the legs, denoting precisely this kind of dress attire (light seamless cotton dress without buttons), which was - and somehow still is - common across india, south asia, the arabic and ironic middle east and parts of africa. It was introduced in europe in the 16 and 17 century by merchants as a house dress, which in more recent times substituted the nightgown, first for males then for females alike. :)
I'm afraid I'm not sure what you mean. While I agree with you that all this is very, very funny, Could you elaborate the point of controversy?

I think Marlon Brando left them to him in his Will.
I still think of him as Morpheus
Nah its all about cowboy curtis
we all do, he is our father lol
I still think of him as "clean"
That's because he IS morpheus
I think of him as Ike Turner lol he played him so well
When Laurence Fishburne was asked why he was wearing pajamas, he put his Morpheus shades on and said "what if I told you that I wear what I feel comfortable in and I don't care what you think of me for doing so"
1:03 " totally...totally"
That’s not Pajamas smh this type of clothing is formal in africa and Middle East
@@STEPHENisSTEPHEN You must be fun at parties.
@@jakep1979 you been corny since 1979
@@STEPHENisSTEPHEN your own mom doesn't think so.
praise be to that lady, we might have never gotten morpheus
This reminds me when Mila Kunis told the people doing That 70s Show that she would be of age on her birthday... She didn't say which birthday! hahaha
It's true that he was 14; however, what young Morpheus didn't know, is that he had been spending 14 years of his life in The Matrix all along..
😄
Funny - I just watched the Hearts Of Darkness interviews that Coppola's wife did back during the shooting, and she states that he is 14 years old, so they knew.
I love how people's voices don't change very much even though their outward appearance does.
This looks nothing like Tre's father in "Boyz in the Hood" but it's the exact same voice.
Weird how Al Pacino's voice changed so much.
Not surprising about Al Pacino ya know with all the🚬 🚬🚬
That guy is a good interviewer.
In case anyone else is curious about the Martin Sheen performance that Fish mentioned, the film is actually called "The Execution of Private Slovik" from 1974, and it's _available_ online.
Still rocking his Zion fashion.
I didn't know Hopper improvised his entire scene on Apocalypse Now... wow!
Punks! Its african attire not damn PJs
@Tom Pickens thats basically most people mate, ain't that wild.
@Tom Pickens No one's trying to put down anything. Stop getting offended by simple mistakes and jokes.
@Tom Pickens you sound hurt
But the guy is not African
@@mrrandom1265 yes. But those aren't pajamas 🤷♂️
A little game we played was spot Laurence Fishburn in Color Purple and I think his brothers played a part of the movie but Laurence was a background character in Shuggs band and had no dialogue.
Minor correction. His dialogue...
"Oh no Miss Sofia No!" When Oprah Winfrey's character Sofia was balling her fist up to knock out the rude/disrespectful husband of obnoxious Miss Millie.
- he looks like he just got out of a quick sparring sesh with Neo.
Lmao “stop trying to hit me and hit me!” 😂
Great, frank discussion of his wonderful career.
the reason why they let him act in the movie even tho he was under aged is becuase it reflected the draft of soliders during the time, and how many soilders were under aged but lied about their age so they could go and fight, and his character reflects it cus the whole time LF is under the impression he shouldnt be there and needs to be careful wit hanything he does there or he could be sent home cus of age, the same way a person who lied about their age to go to combat would be, so imo him being under aged and applying for the part may have been the main reason why he gpot the part depending on how much of a genius Francis Ford Coppola
I don't know about better than Morgan Freeman, but yeah, he's got a great voice. Him, Freeman, and James Earl Jones are a three way tie for best voice.
I just saw and heard him say the same thing to Stephen Colbert on the Late Show. But I remember seeing him in Death Wish (the first one) which was released in 1974. Apocalypses Now came out in 1979.
Apocalypses Now was filmed in 1976 but released in 1979.
After the 3 Matrix's I think a little bit of "Morpheus" stayed with him, lol
Dudes rocking some ancient pajama jammy jams!
I see Laurence in this clip and I can't help but be reminded of Ron Simmons a couple decades ago as Faarooq. Not sure why, probably just how his faces looks now vs Ron's back then.
Laurence Fishburne is a great actor
He was fantastic in Pulp Fiction 😊
thats Ving Rhames..
Oh I get the joke
Wrong. That's Morgan Freeman.
What’s wrong with you? that’s clearly denzel Washington
Nobody here seems to recognize Will Smith in his prime damn!
Actually it's made by a nigerian designer. The clothing line is called "MOSHOOD" It's located in brooklyn N.Y.
i cant listen to fishburne without thinking of the matrix...i just want him to be like..''you take the red pill and i show you how deep the rabbit hole goes''
Easy Rider...hate that ending...:(
Loved him as Ike Turner
what crazy film , apocalypse now, I often hear about crazy stories about that movie
Laurence Fishburne wears what he damn well pleases.
Love you Morpheus lol seriously, awesome actor.
I tried to pass off this look down the shops but got sectioned, guess it only works if you're a celebrity. Awesome actor! Boyz in the Hood!
A MOTHER FUCKING LEGEND
it is a symbol of power and leisure among my people
fantastic actor
He also have a good acting in Hannibal.
lol still love this dude skills...met him b4 SUPER COOL humble guy
Run Charlie!!!
he should met the lady that helped jump start his career
"Unfortunately, no one can be told why I am wearing pajamas...."
I like how Lawrence doesn't care what people think of him. He came in with pyjamas. Lol
Pajamas!
Actually it looks pretty standard for West Africa.
Also good in 'The King of New York' with Christopher Walken.
I need to finally watch that. As a younger I was Intimidated by Christopher Walken. He seemed to play menacing characters.
Strombo rocks man.
morpheus can wear anything and still look wise and cool !
That attire is screaming, "he's lost it and he thinks he's morpheus".
I don't think Fransics Ford Coppola's decision was affected by that woman tbh. He probably just had decided already.
yes he was Morpheus in The Matrix
He will always be cowboy Curtis to me
Morpheus wearing PJs now!? mannn time go by fast..
Schönes Interview !!
Because he is Morpheus.
In the full interview did they talk about his daughter and her career choice. lol
He was in the. Movie the signal
The movie he was in the name of the movie he was in was the signal
he's wearing his PJs because he is badass enough to wear them wherever the fuck he wants to
Wow I never knew this
kool i thought so, thanks
My first time seeing Fishburne was in the movie, "If you give a dance, you have to pay the band."
Oh wow I forgot about that one 👍🏼
I predicted that there would be a pajama reference before i scrolled down to the comments section. I laughed my ass off when i saw the first comment by Magnum45Carryin.
Cowboy Curtis has come along way.
When I was sixteen I looked 10 they always ask me can I see your I d when I was in a bar
imagine that outfit to the club after this interview
I liked him on pee-wees' playhouse as Cowboy Curtis
Nice pj's larry
person8203 exactly, looks like one of these old men in retirement home's pajama XD
why is he in pajamas
EQ smooth Wearing PJ's in public is a sign of mental illness. So next time if he comes out with a dress on and a wig with blonde pony tails and lipstick YOU WILL BE LIKE HE DON'T GIVE A SHIT WHAT YOU THINK ALL THE POWER TO HIM No Sir! No Sir, you are dead wrong. He does care what people think and he is totally insane LOL I just educated you fool
James Cage
I don't think they are pajamas. I believe it's a traditional Dashiki pant-shirt set.
***** i know right?
***** yea when a scotish bloke wears a kilt I SAY ITS A DRESS,SO HIS DASHIKI OR WHATEVER THE FUCK ITS CALLED IS A PAJAMA SET IN CANADA. by that standard i can wear pony tails and lipstick and say its traditanal native indian wear so I'm allowed NO SIR NOOOOOO where does it end with your balls out on the coffee table and you claim mauri tribe status NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
James Cage you should take that show on the road you wannabe comedian.
awesome outfit.. he's rocking it
"14? Damn! You look 30!"
Take this as a life lesson children. Lie on your resume and you will be successful!

So was he the youngest one on the set?

Morpheous!
Fuck you. That's Cowboy Curtis.
IKeepBadCompany My man... Rotflmfao
Josseph Woolfork LLS
he was a good looking dude who could act, i think he still would of made it
Obviously his clothing is of African origin. If you kept up with Mr. Fishburne's career for any length of time you would have noticed that he wears African clothing quite often. When its 90+ degrees outside this is by far one of the most comfortable things to wear.
...What if I told you I wasn't actually 16?
I don't get the humor when the guy asked Fishburne about seeing Brando in Superman.
I agree, i'll wear my pajamas anywhere and anytime i f**cking please. :)
Its a Native african wear.....classic material,modern stylin...smooth#
it seems Larry Fishburne is not aging very well,..very Unusual for a brother,us black folks usually do well on that department
I've been saying that for years. He's 52 years old now but looks 62. Samuel L. Jackson is 65 and he's aging very well
bxdale83 maybe, the situation with his daughter going into "porn" have something to do with it...he not only looks older,he also look pretty unhealthy
capoislamort100
He was aging way before the fiasco with his daughter. I don't know about him being unhealthy though
C Elaine Hedley Who here is judging? I'm a fan of Larry Fishburne but we're just pointing out the obvious and that is "he's not aging well." Did I say something that offended you? And who's George?? And by the way I'm in my 30's but people often think that I'm in my 20's so I'm doing something right
Racist
GOAT
the most canned canned laughter ever. Its like they took canned laughter and put it in another can
Is he wearing pyjamas?
Cowboy Curtis DAMMIT!
wasnt he in matrix?
Morpheus wears what he wants.
Totally, totelly.
....He's wearing his matrix suit.
Zion 2199 summer ware
HA ha not a little lie but I am glad he is where he is, I on the other hand am not into deceit whatever will be will be. I always end up confessing.
I love Dennis Hopper but I wouldn't want my young son to hangout w/ him
They are flying pajamas. He can kick your ass in mid air.
I'm guessing he hasn't kept up on all that Matrix martial arts training.
Still the Matrix?
he should have taken the blue pill
