  • Hi All,
    Finally, I've got around to finishing off a video part of the general basic set-up of the Xenyx mixer series from Behringer.
    This set-up will work with all of the xenyx format mixers and give you a clear idea of how to set this mixer up and your gear.
    Hope you enjoy and give this vid a thumbs up if you like, BIG, THANK YOU to everyone who has supported me.
    Sorry it's taken me so long to get this done, the second part will follow straight away so watch out for that for all of you who have been asking recording related questions.

    Nice explanation Elias. I was Radio DJ.after I left I started singing. When I was on radio studio everything was ready to use so no clue what so ever.I bought Behringer X2222USB Xenyx. Before this I had small mixer start with to get used to with the connections. I loved it some connection I could not understand,but watching you video made it so clear. Thanks Elias.
    Only one advice to you speak little loud or turn your audio volume up. Your video are so great well explained and fantastic.
    keep doing good job with louder voice.

    It should work straight away or you should be able to go into pro tools settings and put your output and input to the mixer. If you can't see the mixer driver it's because you have not installed it, so make sure you install the mixers driver provided on the cd that comes with your mixer. Go to pro tools set-up- peripherals- midi controllers - type and select your install driver of the mixer. After you found it than go to "receive from" option, select input 1 and than go to "send to" option....

  • @EliasGadgets
    @EliasGadgets  Před 11 lety

    ..go to the send to option and select the hui option and ok. to finish go to the midi tab, select the input devices and click or select your mixer driver in the list, hope that works? if not I would suggest you go onto behringer website and check if they have a guide for the set-up.

      Got it. Thank you. At which level do you usually turn the compression knob for the vocals?

    • @EliasGadgets
      @EliasGadgets  Před 9 lety

      Carlo Duterte Hey, sorry for late reply been full on busy.. but its really easy.. say you have a flat vocal that is plain and dry.. that is when you would add some compression and if it doesn't make much difference to the vocal or bring it some life that I would add some limiter which the mixer doesn't really have but it tend to do the same task and liven up the dry vocal in which you could further add fx or maybe play with the EQ's. Remember, you do not want it fully up or too loud, do it slow and listen to your overall mix and balance it with the song.

    Great tutorial. I appreciate you taking the time to help people like myself understand the technology that's out there. My question is can you recommend a good but inexpensive mixer that you can record on multiple channels? I just bought this one but didn't realize you can only record on track. Thanks again.

    • @EliasGadgets
      @EliasGadgets  Před 9 lety

      Scott Belzer Thank you, not really a cheap options for multiple recording on all channels, the cheap way is to just get a audio interface or look at a firewire mixer but again, not cheap and it depends on your budget but they normal start from £500 upwards am afraid.

    ok, so i'm trying to put a rode videomic into this which has a 3.5mm jack on it, so i've bought a 6.35mm adapter, and it didn't work. I bought a few other adapters, non worked. I discovered that it works if you pull out the 6.35mm jack a little bit. But it's not just one input, it's like this on every single input on this mixer. WTF? I thought it might be because they were stereo adapter, so i then went out and bought some mono adapters, and still the same problem. I've got a behringer HA400 headphone microamp which i wanted to put 4 pairs sennheiser hd400s headphones into and same again you need to pull the headphone jacks out a little bit, but this time out of the adapters a little bit. The videomic and all the headphones work absolutely fine on other products, Is this a known issue with behringer products?

      no it doesn't matter which main output you use. I use them all for my 4 speakers, main outs xlr for my krk 6 and control room or front main out for my krk 5s. @JimmyWestra Před 7 lety

    What you hear in the mains/headphones/monitors doesn't record to pro tools via usb. The mixers usb codec seems to piggyback the computer built-ins. Disable/mute built-in mic/speakers, in computer default, and you get nothing to, or from, the codec audio usb mixer. 2in 0-out to record, 2out 0-in to playback is the codec this mixer has to offer, but seems to default to 1in2out computer default,(normally used as default for computer sounds via built-in speakers, and built-in mic, recording to computer default sounds, to make up your own, computer default sounds, via the built-in mic). The only thing Pro tools recorded was the built-in mic while I was monitoring headphone/Mains/ monitors/ and all meters, thru Pro tools mix windows, and the mixers idiot lights. But playback after switching to 0in 2out usb audio codec the recorded session was anything but the analog mix to digital usb codec audio I assumed I was recording digitally thru this interface via usb but apparently the signal sent to Pro tools recording was the built ins of the usb device codec this interface was actually sending less anything that resembled what i, the mixer, and the software were metering, monitoring and hearing.

    • @EliasGadgets
      @EliasGadgets  Před 9 lety

      you can use this mixer with any music software, it connects via usb with a built in audio usb interface that logic and other software will pick up and use as your main sound card. Just go into your logic settings and choose it as your main audio output and input.

    • @EliasGadgets
      @EliasGadgets  Před 10 lety

      ProTools 10 should be straight forward once you have installed the files for your sound card if on windows or once connected to your mac which doesn't need any installation. Pro tools should see your mixer by you going into the set-up preference and selecting the input and output as the mixer. You can use an adaptor or you could get a 3.5mm / 1/4 cable which you can use to connect in the mixers output with the 1/4 end and the 3.5mm into your speaks, depends on what your speakers are and how you have your set-up but I would need more details. I would advise you also check out my last video on this mixer "Behringer X1622USB Q&A" and also "Connecting KRK Rokits", they would have various indications of connecting speakers, the mixer and other stuff.

    Hello everyone...I have purchased a Xenyx X1204USB model from Behringer... I have connected the USB cable from mixer to my laptop.... I havent bought speakers yet but I do have Sony MDR 7506 headphones that I will be using... basically I am a newbie in this field and all I want is to play a karaoke track on my laptop or iphone, listen it on my headphone while I sing along using my condenser mic and record the music along with my voice directly into the laptop and then apply all effects... This may be a very basic question for all the experts here but how can I accomplish what I am looking for

    • @okidot
      @okidot Před 8 lety

      Its basic, but not very straight forward. You need to have audio out from your computer going into mixer, and then create an auxillary mix to send to your headphones to hear the music for singing along to.
      You then need to connect your mic to another channel and send that to your main mix out on the mixer. In order to then record your vocals, you need to connect your audio out on the mixer into a recording device input (soundcard etc) on the computer.
      If you are new to equipment, this defo isn't so straight forward without having some help!

    I noticed you haven't mentioned the Left Right selectors located directly above the sub 1 and 2 faders I've been trying to look for specific functions of these buttons. Do they enable instrument/vocal connected to the stereo channels to be routed either left or right by turning the Pan or Balance knobs?

    • @EliasGadgets
      @EliasGadgets  Před 9 lety +1

      Sorry for late reply but yes they do along with the subs 1-2 etc , I explained it to Tracey C below a bit.. but the Pans or balance knobs are not the main controls but rather the faders of the subs 1-2 and you would decide from the sub 1-2 section where you have the left and right.. where you would like to route the channels etc. I didn't really cover it as it was a little complex and plus I was going to replace the mixer for a digital board mixer the Presonus 16.0.2

      +Adrian Wallace (Simplly Addy) - Never used reason before but the principle should still be the same as other daw.. I would check the set-up, sound preference and check if anything is grey out?. I once had this issue with a few software and I had to install third party pluggins or apps that would fully open all channels where the daw would pick up the input and output.. for windows try asio4all which should be free to download.

    Is this mixer good for a home studio setup? Would this be better than usinfg a focusrite 2I4?

    • @EliasGadgets
      @EliasGadgets  Před 8 lety

      +PassAndGoAway - Yes it is a good home studio set-up and one of the most used mixer. The only problem with this mixer is when it comes down to do multitrack recording which it can't if you want to record more than 2 instruments to it. But if you don't into to record more than two at the same time its a great mixer and better than the focusrite 214 in the sense that you get more connection features and lots of built in effects etc. In my opinion i think the focusrite is great and straight forward to connect your gear for a home producer or dj and the behringer mixer is more suited for a band or if you have lots of keyboards synth and a few guitars like me.

    Thank you for your helpful video! I would like to ask you which effect should I use like reverb 1 or 2 or delay or echo?- I want to record my song on karaoke through the mixer! I have ditto mixer like yours- zynyx x1622.

    • @EliasGadgets
      @EliasGadgets  Před 8 lety

      +pradeep regime - thank you. Depends on what effects you want to obtain, all i can do is tell you the difference in simple term of each for you to truly understand each effect and you decide which one is best for you.
      Overall to be honest, they are all Echoes, its just each one reflects or produces the effect differently.
      1. Echo effect - is exactly what the wording is. You will do your karaoke and the effect will cause a delay of your sound. Your in a tunnel, you shout or sing and after a few seconds, the sound will repeat back. it's ok but so so, i find it best with sound rather than singing.
      2. Reverb 1 - I think this one is best for Karaoke because it actually changes your voice and will create a depth in your voice.
      3. Reverb 2 - Similar to the above but this one, not only changes your voice but applies it in various environments, be it a hall, studio, room etc.
      I would like you to also consider using a bit of both effects maybe.

      Your should hear it as standard, its probably because you have turned it off or something on the board, I can't recall but i would always switch it on and off by switch one of the button down or out around the phone/source area.. i think its the red buttons, press both down or one in and other out.. it was something like that, i can't remember, sorry mate.

    Sir your tutorial is very use ful to me, but there are some question, can i ask you,
    Sir i have beharinger mixer 1202 fx,dennan a/v receiver,and p.c.,
    I want to record my vocal on p.c. in cubase soft ware
    at this time i give c.d. out to my mixer in which i connected mic and c.d. player output.
    And from mixer c.d. out put gives into
    to line in of my p.c. is that correct or there is requriment of audeo interface between
    And if yes set up of connection

    • @EliasGadgets
      @EliasGadgets  Před 10 lety

      A audio interface would make your life much easier and direct in this situation and less complex. Your connection is alright but an audio interface connection would be better but it makes no sense to have this and a audio interface together, your better off getting an audio interface to connect you set instead of having to connect the audio interface via usb going into your pc and than connect the mixer 1202x into the audio interface.. it's really down to you but either way it all works ok.

    How can I connect DSP1124P feedback destroyer on mixer? my model is QX1204USB

    • @EliasGadgets
      @EliasGadgets  Před 10 lety

      plug your speakers into the DSP1124P output and from the output of your QX1204USB mixer you want to connect that it into the input of the DSP1124P. So mixers output goes into the input and your mixer into the output of the destroyer.

    Can anyone help me? ahaha I'm a COMPLETE beginner to recording audio and all I'm trying to do is record drumset parts. Literally all I need is recordings of the mics on my kit to go to my PC... I have this x2222usb but I have no idea how to use it. The mics are picking up and the red light shows on the interface, but no sound is going into my pc. I have it plugged into the USB, is there anything else I need?

    I really hope you don't plug your USB cables into your CPU. That would be kind of bad. But all things considered, the tutorial is quite good. You just gotta work on your Mic positioning or simply speak up.

  • @traceyc822

    Hello,
    I am a real beginner here! I have decided to help my boyfriend's band by offering to be the sound girl. He has a Xenyx 2442usb and I have watched many tutorials but am still learning. This is just for playing and not recording. His five piece band only has two instruments hooked up to the board (an acoustic guitar and a mandolin) the rest all vocals. It would be nice if they all hooked up so I could have a little more control with the sound, but for now this is it.
    The "low-cut" option by the gain knob, what does that do exactly? I don't really notice a difference when I click on it. Did you say something about helping cut background noise? I didn't quite make that out at the end of your vid.
    Thanks Tracey

    • @EliasGadgets
      @EliasGadgets  Před 9 lety

      Hi Tracey,
      The low cut button would be best suited for all mic vocals application only. it take out any thumps or rumble out of live sounds, makes the sound vocal deep and clear, it would also minimizing any popping. yes you will notice that it doesn't have any audible effect but that is because you may not be on a stage where the environment layout itself with everything connected with cause a lot of distortions and that low-cut filter would come on handy to cut them out. Try for example playing a drum bass which will have some wobble or distortion and than press the low cut and see the difference, or maybe a male with deep voice. The Xenyx mixers ranges are really only for handling or like your said playing all gear rather than recording in mind.

      Tracey C Thank you for the low cut info. Very helpful. I was also wondering about the compression knob. Can't seem to find much info on it. What does it exactly do? Not sure if I notice much difference when playing with it. In the manual it says when the red led light comes on you know its engaged. Do you use this more for vocals or instruments or both?
      Look forward to your help. ;)

    • @EliasGadgets
      @EliasGadgets  Před 9 lety

      Tracey C Hey Tracey, I would normally use the compressors on both vocals and instruments when I would want to make the sound louder. If you put it on and turn the knob on the channel it will give your sound a punch, make it sound loud without overloading everything like you would do when you would either put the gains up on a channel. Say for example I have my final song, and my vocals was to low or unbalance, I would add compression to bring it in line with the rest of the tracks and it will never be too loud but just right as compression tends to also lower over powered frequency of the sound and make it more soft. What I mean by more soft is compressor can also have the opposite effect and where you have a song that is too loud, it can compress the loud sounds. Hopefully that makes sense :)

      @traceyc822 Před 9 lety

      Elias Khan Thank you again soooo much! I truly appreciate the detail you go in to for helping me understand. I realize these sound boards can make a band sound great or pretty bad. They really take patience, time and a good ear to achieve the sound you're looking for. I know I will have more questions for you and look forward to your advice!
      Thanks again!

    If I want the Aux Send to feed a headphone, do I need to feed the Aux Send into a headphone amp and hook the headphones up to that?

    • @EliasGadgets
      @EliasGadgets  Před 8 lety

      no you should not, unless you hear one side of the headphone instead of both sides. In that case than yes you would need another interface or headphone amp. You may need two Aux Sends to the Master Input? petty i don't have the mixer, I would check and test it out.

    • @InternetSandman
      @InternetSandman Před 8 lety

      I'm aware the Aux Send is mono, I would use a splitter cable to produce a "stereo" signal to feed both channels of the amp that the headphones would plug into

    I'm trying to reach someone to help me register the Xenyx Q1202USB that I just ordered through the mail. I have not been able to register it. The online registration form requires a proof of puchase file upload. What type or file is expected? Why would I have a file to show proof of purchase? I chose this product because of the software that is supposed to come with it, but I can't access the software until I register the product.

      am afraid not, anything connected into this mixer or been out-put will result to the same thing. I've been trying everything I could think off to no luck so I ended up caving in and just decided to buy a firewire mixer. Your better off just getting and audio interface.

    What is the SUB for? I was thinking to monitors or is it for sub woofers? The book says nothing.

    • @EliasGadgets
      @EliasGadgets  Před 8 lety

      +Mojo Bro - The subs are used in two ways...
      1. are for various connection you can combine as one group. like if you have 3 guitars or 2 vocals, you would group the 3 guitars to sub group 1 channel and the 2 vocals together to sub group 2 channel or channel 1 left side / channel 2 right side or mix between them if any of that makes sense?.
      2. Additional speakers, not subwoofers because the mixer has no power amp for these speakers and i think its like that for all behringer mixers in this range type. So you will need always a power active speaker etc. Say you wanted something like a surround sound set-up pre say.. you would connect through the normal main outs in front or back and than connect two more additional speakers to the 2 subs channels and press both the main button and sub buttons down etc.
      Hope that makes sense but overall its not for subwoofer.
