      I got a few rows of golden bantam emerging. I live in zone 7. South Jersey. It’s been a rough start for my first set of seed. I think half died because of the messed up temps. Planted 2 rows in may 1st but encountered some frost. Then replanted all 8 rows by hand again on may 12th. Got a few up that I see now. Once they are a foot long I’ll start my 2nd treatment on 15.0.0

    I used your double row method on drip tape from your advice last year due to garden space. So far it’s working great. Planted peaches and cream. It’s up 12 inches. Injected first round of blue stuff and have hilled it with Chilean Nitrate. Hilled with an iron tooth rake. 15 mil tape with 6 inch emitters. I like that the water kind of ditches in the valley between the 2 corn rows now after hilling on each side the row. I plan on alternating injecting every 2 weeks with blue and Chilean until tassel starts forming.

    Planted in double rows like you suggested last year and got quite a good harvest, despite probably not fertilizing enough.
    This year, I couldn't decide so I'm going with a few repeats of last year: Honey Select, Revelation, Serendipity, and then trying Evolution, and Cafe. All Synergistics, so hopefully won't matter if they cross-pollinate a little, but the plan is to stagger planting based on DTM anyway. It caused more than a few headaches last year, but after making an entire Excel spreadsheet comparing the varieties this year, I caved and just got all 5 types 😂

    I’m going to try the double-row method this year. You mentioned using a larger row spacing of 40 inches between the double rows compared to what you’d typically use for single-row spacing. Is that 40 inches the distance between the center of each furrow/double-row, or is it the spacing between the rows of corn? Looks like the two rows in the double row are about 12 inches apart, but if the 40-inch spacing is between the center of each furrow/double-row, wouldn’t that mean the corn rows would be closer to each other than 40 inches?

    • @jhorsch94
      @jhorsch94 Před 5 měsíci +1

      I ask this question because I don’t have a wheel hoe and will have to spend a little more time getting the row spacing down. So far, I’ve planned on having 12 inches between the rows in the double-row, and spacing each set of double-row 36 inches away from the next double-row of corn. This setup gives me about 48 inches of spacing between the center of each double-row, and I’m wondering if this spacing is a little too far now?

      @LazyDogFarm  Před 5 měsíci +2

    Your videos have been so helpful to me, as a "newbie" gardener. You mention using a drip "tape", but is it an actual pipe? Will a 1/4" drip line with 6" hole spacing work?

    • @LazyDogFarm
      @LazyDogFarm  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Drip tape lays flat when not in use, then inflates when water is running through it. You could use 1/4" drip line too, but I find drip tape much easier to use in an in-ground garden scenario with multiple rows.

I live in the Pacific Northwest and getting the ground to warm up, containing moisture in clay soil and weed control seems to work for me when growing corn. • @LazyDogFarm
      @LazyDogFarm  Před 5 měsíci +1

      It would have to be planted at just the right time, before the corn gets too tall to shade it before it gets up and going. It sounds good on paper and would look good, but you'd have to time it just right. I think it would probably work better with field corn which takes longer to mature. Sweet corn, especially the supersweet varieties, is so fast-maturing.
