Armin has so much class and humility, I love that he is explaining this and putting any critics to shame, people are idiots and assume things, this man works hard to remain true and is a true musician!
My exact thoughts... there's something about Dutch people, they're just so cool. :D
Mixing / beatmatching oldschool-style completely by ear and playing to the audience with an un pre=arranged set, but still with syncronised visuals Is impressive and unxepected vs the publc's perception of what headlining djs/ producers do!
I think you’ll find he’s not typical! And to be fair, even on this video, he did a fake little knob twiddle near the start! He obvs couldn’t resist because of his humility 🙄
Imagine making millions while millions adore you, all while playing and creating music.... That is one sweet life!
First time ever at a rave was TAO 09' and I saw Armin for 8 hours straight. Ever since that night I've been hooked. I absolutely love trance!
Sander's look is: "Hello Darkness my old Friend"
Brilliant! This is an excellent way for mixing with visuals. As a DJ who is also an electrical engineer I can really appreciate such a well thought out solution! Keep it up Armin and Team! :)
It sounds like Pioneer really needs to add SMPTE integration.
Wow, totally cool did not think it was possible to do all that live. Hope to see him live some day.
Simply amazing how you guys can bring to us such USEFULL interviews/information. Keep up the great work, FutureMusicMagazine!
Great to know Armin here again. He's definitely one of the best "performers" out there. This audio vs. video show he makes in every gig is amazing.
i've been listening to Armin since I was 13 (21 now) and I've never
thought of looking up videos like this until now lol. Literally only
listened to his live mixes everyday, every year (I got to see him live end of 2019 and beginning of 2020!!!)
"Old School" is the best way! Great work Armin respect to you!
Armin is the best. So pro. He care so much about the music, and the delivery of it to the fans. His love of music is so strong, he wants everyone to experience it in the best possible ways...
every time i see Armin or a hear a track from him i say to myself "omg, the best" but i can't help it, not a single time. He's the best and yet shares alot to everybody instead of keeping it for him, great personality.
Sander Looks Lonely...
@@joeburrows6 You sound more childish idiot , be nice to people on the internet
Armin you just my HERO, I LOVE YOUR MUSIC SO MUCH
Very cool that he broke down his setup like that. Implementing live visuals is pretty challenging, and it's great hearing an explanation of a pro setup. Seems like a good dude too
Thanks for making this video Future Music I alway wondered how DJs sync certain visuals up so well, I always assumed it was pre-recorded. I have even more respect for Armin knowing he does it this way now!!!
Armin van Buuren's style of DJing is really unique. Not all DJs play lyrics on a screen, interact with the crowd, and make boss ass Mashups. Unbelievable.
By the way, he doesn't use the fader starter anymore haha XD
F. Smith they tap the network the cdjs use and extract the info of bpm track waveform clock like everything tc supply has something called showkontrol they used that for every gig starting from armin only intense
I've seen Armin perform a couple times and I had no idea all that was going on, freaking crazy, I already respected the man but this just threw him into a whole new level
Very creative stuff.... A nice application of old and new techniques
I don't event like trance that much, but I really respect Armin for making his sets live and not faking it. Little strange that he only uses two decks, instead of going with 4-deck traktor setup or some crazy Live set, but I guess trance tracks are so dense you don't really need more then 2 playing at once.
He's not a mash up dj so theres no need to sample and go nuts, would get annoying.... just go watch your local corner bar hero wannabe dj if you need 4 decks hehehh
***** so, you never seen 4 decks or Ableton being put to a good use apart from "mash up dj"s and "corner bar hero wannabe"s? Pity.
I don't think he deserves respect just because he mixes live, it's his job and every DJ should do that. I respect him for many other things, but I am also surprised because he only mixes with two players. One thing I don't understand is what happens when he wants to play a song from the middle and not from the beginning?? I suppose that he should find the minute he wants to start playing the song and put both players on that time, but it seems a bit complicated because he should start looping both players just at the same time
I think he uses cdjs because they are more reliable than a laptop. less latency probably also
I love his Dutch accent! I'm from The Netherlands too, so I'm quite proud on him! He's an amazing DJ and he's very successful :D! Like the way he's using very simple tricks to just get what he wants!
it's amazing looking at what he's using there In the video compared to what he's using now phenomenal technology !! armin van buuren keep making the music flowing !!! 'long time fan ' from when you were just on xm radio on area 51
I talked to sander after armin only in Toronto, for 5 minutes I couldn't believe my ears lol
This sander guy makes more sound than the music played in this video.
SMPTE is locked but there are two different signals for left and right. So the 2 extra players are locked in timecode with the CDJs for the audio. So when he uses the jog wheel to pitch bend the timecode CDJs are also in sync. The two players on both ends are basically a reference for the video to know what time the song is and where to start playing.
he is inspiring people all over the world with his creations...its seriously a big achievement for that he has been making such big difference in so many peoples lives...u r truly the leader, the maestro AVB
If we all would drink a shot every time when he says ääähm we would probably die all :)
zanemahmoud2123 + he's speaking in english I guess that also has something to do with it :P
Okay, now I understand everything.
that is really amazing, again and again he prooves that he is is number ONE!
I can see TB 303 there :D!!!
He has a TB 303!!
This is what it's all about, no shortcuts!! Armin is a legend!
This is amazing, and it's really clever to use SEMPTE (or any Sync method) to interconnect all the show 👌👌
Fucking amazing
imagine getting that sorted out in a club
'It's not possible to DJ live with visuals in sync' - Armin you are amazing :-) great video explaining how - I always thought your 4 decks was in case one failed you could carry on the show...
SMPTE (pronounced as semty or something like that) is a protocol that can be used to synchronize all kinds of devices. In this case video to sound.
can someone tell me whats wrong with his hair? its silver on the one side :p
Seems like such an elaborate process for something so simple. I just use Virtual DJ because it handles the video for me, letting me concentrate more on my mixing technique. No extra deck or video guy required.
Huge respect for Armin, for actually keeping it real!
Sander, pipe down and let Armin talk!!! Geez lol
So many wires I would go insane and broke
Thanks Armin! You are the best, really.. Without words..! Your friend Oscar!
This is a very clever solution..Inspiring.. got me thinking of using the CDJ2000 hdmi output to send track data to the video/lighting system, while at the same time syncing the tempo... all over a network cable or wifi.
Totally doable.
nice 303 m888888
You need to spend a lot of money on 4 decks and a mixer to DJ....damn!!!
Wow, awesome! Making the set as the show progresses. Playin what they want to hear!.
I have mixed with fader triggers, and at that point, you use EQ and Trim to control the output volume to the PA system. I'm not sure if that's how Armin does it, but that's what I've done and it works great.
WHEN TRANCE WAS ALIVE.....No no, today's TRANCE fans are confused!
This is a technique used for post production in movies tv and many many things. Armin is king!
Finally I got the WOW effect in my head. He's got very wide knowledge which I really want to have... That's really amazing.
tell me electronic music is easy to handle..
have u tried playing an actual instrument? That is not something you can learn in a few weeks on your bedroom a few hours a day.
Neither is this @@RoyClaessen I've been working on this style for years. People don't even know I'm a DJ anymore because I'm not out doing the same thing as every other DJ. I'm working alone on my own craft and when it's ready people will hear it. These guys are the same, they're taking time outside the show to say hey how can we step up the show, working behind the scenes to bring you those cool effects.
I wonder how this setup has changed in the past three years ?
NXS 2 players and mixer, but I believe he doesn’t need too use SMPTE signal because audio visual is 100x more advanced now
Awesome..That's y he still number one in the world
Best of the Best DJ Armin van Buuren!!!
What Armin Saying on 5:33, "We use..."?
he ment: we use a pc. but he already said we use the while he did not mean to say the so he just said a pc after that to correct himself.
Ha lol hardwell programs his sets in advance and plays the same shit for a whole tour while Armin Van Buuren actually djs yet hardwell is number one in the world
top 100 is just a popularity chart, like a miss world contest, doesn't mean f**k all - its like the top 100 pop chart, not underground
veery cool breakdown!
Thank you very much for sharing this Armin!
uhh
Who said thats not possible to dj live with a synced light show??
David Guetta???
Erg leuk deze video om eens een kijkje te hebben achter de schermen met de techniek die wordt gebruikt!
hey armin you are the best DJ,i'm very pround of you keep that way
I've been always wondering about what waste is to buy 2 CDJ-2000 just to play a signal with them. Those players could be used for mashups for example there are situations when least 3 players are needed. But okay, Armin uses prerecorded mashups, no problem, and his shows with these video elements are awesome. But let's see it, isn't it funny that there are 2 of the most expensive players for mixing, lots of the DJs would be happy if they could have them, and those players are just playing a simple signal, again and again :D
+FFmybest You're missing the point. Most if not all clubs and events have 4 of the latest CDJs with spares or equal quality, it wouldn't be difficult for someone of his level to state in his rider that 4 CDJs must be supplied.
And anyway, $3000 might be a lot for you, but that's likely half his hourly rate.
Another point of view here: CDJ-2000s used for STMPE signal can also be a BACK UP player. Yes, STMPE signal can be played by cheap players like CDJ-350s, but it can't be an alternative when a CDJ-2000 is broken down during tour and another one becomes really necessary.
uhhhh it a uuuumm is a uuuuuhhhmm becaus uh um
Wow , you just blew my mind. I didn't even know that such thing was possible. Thank you
Best show from future music
Bruh just dj and stop becoming a Vj and use all 4 decks and make a Insane show
doesnt look like he knows what he is doing. he says too many uhhhhh`s . i think he needs to get some tips from avicii to dj good.
He knows what he's doing, he has to explain/translate us, the listeners, the idea. So he's actually thinking how to bring his story so we actually get it.
He's thinking about using english words when saying uhhhhh. Hes very a VERY experienced DJ if you watched the video you'd know he plays for millions!!
Armin has always had tons of experience with this stuff
guy really knows his stuff it's why he's had so much success
he just loves this shit
Armin for life
that's what calls professionals! perfect job!
Thanks for sharing Armin. As a tech minded person it's really cool to hear the details :)
Awesome Armin You are a god! I love you so much i have all your cds!!
This is what i think 2 thanks for sharing your thoughts with me!
very clever. with a great clean result.
Very creative Setup. I was always wondering How one can DJ in realtime with the visuals.
That's why he's the best at his craft!
That's living the life. Music every day.
awesome setup
wish he still played sets made of tracks like these.
Read the description ;)
Thanks Armin You're a trance god
Super vid - great insight, thanks Armin!
You’re so amazing 💕💕💕💕
Man that's cool! :D
Been wondering about this for a long time! :)
Wow. You're amazing Armin!
cant wait for this to get released!!
use the network cable for fader start.. plug all of them into a network switch, assign both decks on the left as CDJ 1, both decks on the right as CDJ 2.. they both react to the same fader start but on the proper audio signal is actually routed through that channel
This is very cool! I am not a fan of Armin's music, but I love what he does live!
Cool vid, I subscribed!
For that I would suggest using serato with ableton bridge.. set your beat grids right on the tracks in serato and use the bridge for midi/smpte triggers to VJ software.. if you set you quantisation right you can hit the midi clip launch, drop your track and the video will cue on the drop/breakdown when you want it to, in perfect sync and will follow your loops
Holy shit... it's like he's trying to make his performances legit. A great role model for all aspiring DJ's.
