- What is Impasto? Thick, Textured Paint.
Impasto is a technique used in painting where the paint is laid on thickly to give a painting texture and an almost 3D effect. This thick application of paint that should NOT look smooth. Impasto is textured and must show the brush and palette knife marks. Just think of nearly any Vincent van Gogh painting to get a good visual.
To have the greatest effect, it must be applied with deliberation. The less you work the paint, the better the result. If one were to touch the paint with a brush or knife repeatedly, it works itself into the canvas, becoming duller and flatter with each stroke.
Encaustic and fine Artist, Leonie.e.Brown demonstrates the drawing and painting process simply and understandably.

Amazing. It’s Beautiful. Newbie here. Is Impasto Clear Gel Acrylic Mediumthe same as the modeling paste you are using?
Hello there, I made no use of modelling paste. It's merely the paint's thickness without the use of a medium or water.
You can thicken your paint using medium or gel to preserve its height. Remember that acrylics dry by water dispersion, so it flattens out after it dries. That is why we occasionally include medium. But, you do not need to. I think you should start with no medium before adding another uncertainty to your endeavour.
I do offer online classes that go into much greater detail.

Impasto oil painting means to paint with thick paint, nothing else.
At explanation!

The shadow should not be rounded though as the lines should reflect the surface, not the shape. The artistic decision to liven up a shadow is a nice one but it shouldn't be taught as canon without reflection.
Thanks for your comment. Please take into account that these teaching videos are for absolute beginners. They can only be thought about one principle at a time.
More in-depth courses available on artfordummies.thinkific.com/
That doesn't make sense. If you make the decision to add the shadow, you've introduced a second principle. Shadows are flat. You didn't draw the underlying curves because the surface is flat. Why curve the paint? As I said above, you're free to make any artistic choices you like. But in this video, the curved lines aren't presented as a choice. They're presented as canon. And... yeah, that makes them an error. We obviously don't want beginners learning errors.
@@nicolelittle6429 post your own video then teaching the proper way
I'm definitely not going to advertise my own stuff on someone else's page. That's a bullshit thing to do to a content creator.
