Don't be hard on yourself Robb. You didn't fail your son. You just lost an opportunity to explain what Down Syndrome really is to another kid. That's it. No big deal. You are a great father and a great man. All the best from an Italian father who admires you.

There might be a lot of things that your son can not do, like being a doctor or a lawyer. But one thing for sure, with a father like you, your son will be one of the happiest boys ever. Thanks for sharing this video, very good lesson for every father. bless u .

Hey, as a dad of a child with Ds I just want to say thank you,
You put into words something I haven't been able too and truer words are never spoken.
You've got to remember without teaching people to see the world differently it will never change.
I hope the person who you didn't react to sees this and learns something what he can teach to another

After some searching I found your channel so I could deliver this message to you because I wanted you to know you just made a difference in my life. I want to say thank you so much! I feel bad my original emotion isn't behind this message because I had to track you down but hopefully it reaches you. People don't ask the right questions and they come to conclusions because of bad information. I was severely abused as a child and it caused me to have numerous "disabilities". All anyone could see was what was wrong with me. They didn't take the time to love what was right with me. I've only had one person ever express to me that they see what's right with me. I really want to say thank you for reminding me to stop looking at my disabilities as a problem and find the gift in it because it is there and I believe that. You remind me that there are good people out there who can choose to see things for what they are vs. what they aren't. God bless you and your son!! Much love Robb!

Thank you so much for making this video. I have a sister that is mentally and physically handicapped and also has epilepsy. When I tell people this the most common reaction is 'Oh that is so sad' or 'That must be really hard for you'. I always get so pissed of and sad at the same time when someone says this to me. She is the most beautiful person in the word and she is the only one who can give me true happiness. I look up to her in so many ways, she might be like a child and will never be able to count to ten and understand certain things in the world, but I honestly think that I don't know anyone who is as happy as she is. Her laugh and hugs are so sincere and I she learns me so much.

I would love for this msg to get to this wonderful father who recorded this video. I carry the "negative " factor in my blood because I am A-. When I was pregnant for the first time they told me the risks my unborn child could have if I don't get the vaccine during my pregnancy...one of the highest risk was Down syndrome. Of course I opted to get the vaccine because I was exposing my baby to many other risks, BUT I always say, if God blesses me with a child with Down Syndrome, I will love him/her because to me they are the most beautiful people I've ever met, so kind, loving, fun, in general just BEAUTIFUL ❤️. I just returned to rewatch this video after seeing it all those years ago when it was first posted. It had quite an effect on me at the time. My daughter (who has DS) was only 3 then - she's 11 now. Some other parents and I went on to start a charity (called Wouldn't Change a Thing) in the UK who have worked to try and eliminate negative outdated perceptions of people with DS. What you managed to articulate here (in the moment!) was profound. I am just reflecting now at the irony - had that moment in the video store not happened (which you considered at the time to be a failure) then this video would not have happened. This message would not have reached the people that it has, nor created the ripple effects like my own. It's not a failure - it's a triumph.

Think now how many parents may be asked similar questions by their children, and how many of them will remember your words.
you HAVE NOT failed your son. you have empowered him, and many others as blessed as he is. There are times when all of us wish we had said something in a particular moment, but in reality, that moment may not have gone the way you imagined. To have corrected that guy in front of his sons may have embarrassed him and lead to more misinformation. you didn't do that. instead you demonstrated the true goodness of social media and instead used that emotion to educate a far greater number of people. You are doing the right thing, and you're a lucky guy to have a son who makes you the man you are.

You clearly love and cherish your son, this is clear from your emotions that shines through on this video. In NO way have you failed your son. I was brought up knowing that everyone is an equal. Down syndrome is not an illness, it is not a disability, it does not define who you are. Who you are is defined by your personality and how you want the world to see you. I myself have never had the honour of meeting someone with downs syndrome, but if I did I would see them as nothing more than the person they let the world know them as. Anyone who see's others as less than equal as themsevles are the ones with an illness. They are the ones with the ignorance to think they are better than anyone else. I applaud you for getting you word out there, and educating others. It's people like you that the world needs, to show people not to be scared of what they don't understand.

Rob, don't be to hard on yourself. I'm a dad too and we make mistakes. You did the right thing to post this video and reached so much more people than telling this other guy what down syndrome is. I'm really touched. Your son can be proud of you and you, too. Thanks for sharing your emotions with the whole world! Best from Germany

It's so refreshing to see a parent who loves their children. I have to say, my sister in law has Down's.. I used to stay with her two days a week and now I'm living with my in laws for the time being and get to see her everyday. And let me tell you.. Shelby is 23 years old and she is the happiest person I've ever met in my whole life. She sees the world in a different way than anyone else I know. I'm not great with my words, but I felt the need to comment.. Down's Syndrome is a blessing and not a curse. And by golly, Shelby is so smart!.. she can quote every Disney movie out there from beginning to end.. I don't know anyone else who's memery is that good!.. she has an amazing mind.

Hi Robb, thank you for sharing your thoughts. I completely agree. So many perceptions are categorized as disabilities and it makes no sense. We're all just different with our own strengths right?
Have a great day Robb. Big hugs to Turner!

Robb, you might have felt like you didn't do right by your son in the moment, but look how beautifully you do right by him in this video. Down Syndrome is pure love, and I wish more people knew that. You have fulfilled that wish by sharing this video. You're pa great Daddy, and it seems you and your son are very lucky to have each other. Keep letting the love you both have shine in this sometimes dark world. I hope your journey with each other is a long, and love filled one.

Thanks for sharing this story Robb, it is never too late to speak up. Not everyone can convey their true intent in the moment and sometimes that comes at the expense of the message. In all honesty you will probably reach more people who need to hear this the way this has played out.

Dear, Robb. I am from Republic of Moldova (it's a small country between Romanian and Ukraine ). It does not matter what country we come from, what status we have, age and religion, only the love and goodness of the soul are at the forefront! It is ashamed for the man who had the stupidity to try to offend your child. Now the people are so stressed and unhappy that almost of them trying to reverse their upsetting to others ,without reason. Forgive them, Robb; they're actually upset, lacking love and peace of mind!Do not blame yourself for not reacting immediately. Regretfully, sometimes, we really do not know how to fight human stupidity and wickedness, but you must continue be strong (for you, for him, for other people who knows what is it-syndrome Down). Enjoy your happiness to have a such child (God knows what HE is doing), be happy close your boy. Both of you are so amazing! Thanks for sharing this video, very good lesson for everyone! P.S:My family pray for you! Good luck!
