    I remember the show Hullabaloo in the mid 60's;
    it was the most fun show on TV.
    Even my parents liked it! (but Dad wouldn't admit he liked it)

    Behold the LEGENDARY Supremes! This clip is a testament to Flo and her contributions to the group's sound. Listen to the notes that Flo send into the rafters during "Lovelight" and at the end of "Baby Love." When Flo left, the sound suffered.........Cindy's voice was not strong enough to showcase the backup harmonies and Mary's voice dominated which further changed the sound. Mary's voice was needed to mediate Flo's soaring soprano and Diane's nasal wail, not to dominate the harmonies. So, when the SILLY "Ross as a solo act" fans try to elevate Diane's importance in the legendary trio or minimize the importance of Mary and Flo's contributions, remember THIS clip! Flo, Mary, and Diane (collectively!) were the legends!!

      People fail to understand that Diana wasn't the reason for the success! Holland and Dossier, the writers of the songs are who made them Supreme. Diana's voice had little to do with it. Remember before Holland and Dossier they were referred to as the no hit supremes, and Diana was leading then as well. So if Diana's voice was so great, why didn't her nasal voice and bug eyes make them famous, early on? I truly believe, had Holland and Dossier's music been given to yhe Vandellas or Marveletes they would have made those songs hits. Remember on Dick Clark's American Bandstand when he would introduce 2 new songs and he would as a couple of teens their opinions? They never said i love that lead voice, it was I like the beat and easy to dance too. That was what teens wanted. They would have been just as hapoy had Flo sung lead because the teens connected with Holland and Dossier's style, the beat. So get over it. Diana wasn't the reason why people fell in love with the Supremes. And just from reading peoples thoughts, Flo was always the one who caught your eye. But we rarely got a glimpse of Flo or Mary, because Gordy crossed the line and promoted Diana for his own needs. Diana was just a puppet with no self esteem making her an easy target. We all knowhe couldn't have gotten to first base with Flo.

      +Wallace Winter People also fail to understand that Florence was not always the one who caught your eye. She, Mary, and Diana each had a following of fans. Each of them had their own kind of beauty that catered to a particular type. And who is this Dossier of whom you speak? I know of the famous Holland-Dozier-Holland team, but am not famiiar with Dossier. I am aware that they did produce wonderful hits not only for the Supremes but for Martha and the Vandellas, and the Fours (and others). I am one of those who fell in love with the Supremes because of Diana's voice, and I loved all three of them as I would anxiously wait to buy their records and see when they would be on the next television show. What people fail to understand is that Diana as the lead singer took them into the a broader world and market which was more than the typical R&B female group of that time were doing at the time. I often wished she had started her solo career right after one or two of their number one hits. It would have been more of a climb for her to reach the heights she has reached, however, I am sure, with her drive and talent and self esteem, she would have attained the same success eventually. It would also be interesting, if Diana has exited that soon, to see how Florence Ballard and the Supremes would have progressed over the years and if they would have remained an R&B vocal group or would been able to branch into other fields of entertainment as they did with Diana. For someone who had no self respect, Diana Ross sure did raise 5 well balanced children who, while not perfect, have remained scandal free and seem to do pretty well ON THEIR OWN and not relying on their mother who, for lady near her mid 70s, is still fortunate enough to perform on stage.

      @@wallacewinter5907 That sounds like your opinion! What YOU fail to understand is Diana has had many #1’s that weren’t produced my HDH. Furthermore, 2 of those #1’s were with the Supremes (in name only). You’re bashing Diana but the reality is - the ones who never topped the pop chart again after HDH were (The Supremes).

      @@motownbaby Oh, you are a silly "Ross as a solo act" fan..............knock off the Diane Ross revisionist history! Diane was able to extend her career beyond the legendary Supremes for one reason.............Berry Gordy and his willingness to put the full muscle of Motown behind her solo career. Berry Gordy could have made Mickey Mouse a solo star vocalist if he chose to...........Berry was crazy for Diane Ross, and from your comment, so are you! Some of us got a "load" of Diane with her antics with THE SUPREMES and said, "ENOUGH!"

      @@wallacewinter5907 Even Flo couldn't give the Supremes a hit record since Buttered Popcorn didn't do much. I for one did fall in love with the sound of Diana's voice. I was only two years old in 67 and didn't understand a word she was singing cause I speak Dutch. It took me until 1980 before I realized that Diana was, in fact, part of the Supremes before 1970. The greatest hits album I had and everything released after 67 was billed as Diana Ross & The Supremes. So, in my mind, Diana was singing lead and the group The Supremes was just a guest act for backing vocals, similar to Earth Wind & Fire with The Emotions on Boogie wonderland.

    Florence sung lead on "Let me go the right way" Florence had a smooth high pitch,
    which was always on point! In spite of emotional chaotic stress that she endured !
    Ms. Ross kept the group moving successfully with hits after hits!
    That was the Motown original story!
