    When I found out that guinea pigs gave birth to active, fully furred, opened eyed babies, I was just a little kid. I couldn't believe it, because all other animals I knew about then did the opposite! Tiny, weak, blind, closed ears. I still think it's pretty magical, even though I know a lot more now.

      Yes, it's so cute to see the mini-me version of the mother guinea pig, all busy squeaking and running around!

    Hi Sanrda! I absolutely love this episode. I researched Guinea Pigs not too long ago. Even then, I didn't learn nearly a quarter of what I did watching your wonderful video. I love Guinea Pigs. They are such cute animals.

    It should be said that there's lots of bigger rodents still, like coypu, maras, and capybaras! Some have even been spotted wild here in Ireland, likely escaped from zoos or farms

    Unfortunately the RSPCA are reporting a 200% increase in the amount of GPs they are having placed with them. Mainly down to inexperienced owners not properly sexing them before placing them together. They are great companion pets but they do need plenty of space to exercise and explore as they are very inquisitive. Great that you made the point that they NEED to be kept with at least one companion (preferably more) as they are such social animals. Love the channel.

    Guinea Pigs have been found to be in a different family than rodents.
    Although textbooks still need to be revised. To provide some context, many years ago, rabbits were also considered to be rodents. They were eventually reclassified as a non-rodent. The Guinea Pig will also follow suit.

    When our children were little we had many cavies. Such gentle creatures and excellent pets. Our son had pigs that won many ribbons at guinea pig shows. Females make the best pets.

      I find my females are much more timid and cautious than my males. I always take males to my therapy work as they are so relaxed and happy.Unfortunately, we don;t have guinea pig classes at our shows here...yet!

    Sandra, do they tend to bite people when handled?

    • @WayOutWestx2
      @WayOutWestx2  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Not in my experience. I only had one bite from a male but that was my own fault, he was hungry for his dinner and I picked him up so he gave out! They are usually very placid and peaceful.
