Lee Jin Ah said on Weekly Idol that when she was young, she was in a way bullied for her small voice, so she feels very insecure about her voice. So basically releasing songs to the public like this is a huge step for her to overcoming her insecurity with her voice.

이진아 목소리에 대한 호불호가 넘 안타깝다 ㅠㅠ 이진아가 만든 노래는 꼭 이진아가 불러야한다고 생각함... 곡구성이 치밀하고 복잡한 게 엄청난 매력인데, 이진아가 아닌 소울풀하고 가창력있는 보컬이 그걸 덮어버리면 산만해지지 않을까. 그리고 특유의 솔직하고 귀여운 가사가 이진아라는 사람 자체랑 너무 잘 어울린다. 팬 입장에서는 이진아 목소리를 정말 소중하게 여기고 있음.. ㅠㅠ
말씀하신거 전부 공감합니다 곡해석이나 표현력 같은 부분에 있어서도 진정성에 있어서도 자기가 만든 노래는 본인이 부르는게 가장 좋다고 생각해요 특히나 우리나라처럼 싱어송라이터가 많이 부족한 나라에서는..더욱 이진아가 보물처럼 느껴집니다 이진아 목소리 호불호 갈릴지언정 거부감 없는 사람들은 이진아가 작곡한 노래에 이진아 보컬만큼 어울리는게 없다고 생각하거든요..

Her voice is indeed uncommon & different. But you'll get used to it as you listen to her songs and since she produces her own style of music that fits well with her voice, you'll just love everything about Lee Jin Ah and take no note of her indifferences.
Her cute voice simply harmonizes so well with her fantastic piano play. -My thoughts.
(Listen more to her works and as a Jin Ah's fan, we will be on the same page.)
My exact thoughts as well. At first, I was so deterred by her unorthodox vocals. The vocaloid-like quality of Jinah's voice was so unusual, but after listening to more of her music, it became so fitting. Now I'm a huge Lee Jinah fan! Her style is so organic, which is rare.
If u hear her songs and some japanese songs the voices are 100% the same.

She said she’d been almost bullied because people thought she was faking her voice to be cute when she was in an audition. Now that people all know that it’s her nature voice they accept it as it is and she’s in the happy place I guess. I wasn’t super into her voice at first but now I kinda like it!

Absolutely LOVE Lee Jin Ah! The "CEO" of her label also happens to be a legendary songwriter/producer. Check out old Kpop videos for his group "Toy". He picks out talented singer/songwriters for that do not fit the typical Kpop "look".

목소리 첨엔 걍 신기했는데 들으면 들을수록 독특한매력이 있음💕

음 난 음악에 대해 아는게 없지만 이진아 음악을 처음 들었을때 그냥 꽂혔어. 그녀는 독특함을 가지고 있지. 목소리도 독특하지만 음악이 기존에 듣지 못했던 음악에다가 한번 들었을때 완성도가 너무 훌륭함. 반복적으로 들어도 질리질 않음. 오디션에서 테스트생이 만든 노래나 등등 칭찬받았던 노래들을 들어보면 그냥 누가 들어봐도 단조롭고, 그 단조로움이 지겨움을 발생시키고, 등등.. 그런데 이진아의 음악은 단조롭게 느껴지면서도 복잡함이 느껴짐.

I love her music because she's not afraid to go beyond the borders typical Kpop music has set for her. There is definitely something to be said for people who don't just do what's popular for profit.
Antenna Artists aren't really considered idols so kpop isn't their genre. However, you're totally right that she goes beyond the borders of music!
The frame kpop should sound like this and that are all by you guys though. There are so many more artists within Korean pop music that does variety genres yet fangirls and fanboys always expect some BTS or Twice shit.
marchveris actually if you dig deeper into bts and twice's albums you can find a lot of different genres, and liking those so called mainstream songs is not a bad thing, like people have different taste in music. But i totally understnad what you mean. I too, like those kind of songs. But i heard these are called k-indie or k-RnB, not K-pop? Pls correct me if im wrong
Imma Multifandom When some foreign fans refer to kpop it seems like they are just referring to Korean music in general. In the original comment, thats what she is using the term for or else she wouldn't have dared to call Lee Jin Ah kpop. My definition of Kpop is artists who are produced and trained by companies and backed by their marketing and guidance to appeal to young fans. And yes, some of them have appealed to more audience like Big Bang and established respect with their music. The reason I mentioned BTS or Twice was because they are the biggest kpop boy band and girl band at the moment. I actually enjoy listening to them in right occasions along with Red Velvet, Blackpink, ikon..you get the point.

All of Antenna's artists are amazing talented musicians (guitarists, pianists, bassists etc) in their own right. I saw them live last year and it was literally all of them on stage the entire concert. They didn't bring any backup instrumentals. When say Sam Kim, was performing his songs, he had the spotlight on him but all the other artists were the band and backup vocals. It was amazing to witness.

I think you need to do more Antenna Music musicians because the musicians that come out of there, they may not be super duper popular like the girl groups and boy groups but I feel they are really high quality. That Kwon Jin Ah-Sam Kim duet is soooo good

When I read the title, I knew that Hugo and Gwen will hate her voice. I was like that at first, but after listening to her more and more, I feel peaceful and like, in a sense a good break after listening to Kpop songs that sounds too much (No hate, like some of Gfriend's songs. I love them tho).

That's true! Funny enough, I actually love to listen to Gfriend's songs in accoustic version better than their studio version. I feel like their songs sometimes can be "rough" because of the amount of instruments blaring in the background that kinda overpower their voices (except Yuju's) but in Lee Jin Ah's case, the music actually compliment her voice in a way.
