- I’ve been using the DJI Air 2S for about 3 months now. I bought it to replace my Mavic 2 Pro because I wanted something lighter for hiking but with the same quality output. The Air 2S has been with me now to Iceland and the Dolomites, and with the Mavic 3 Pro just about to be announced, here are my thoughts on this excellent little drone.

Unbelievable shots in here, cannot believe I just saw this now. I've seen this at 9:46 tons of times and this is one of the best
Thank so much for the comment, glad you enjoyed the video
Seems like I never watch TV anymore, only CZcams. This video is why. Thanks Andy, well done.
Thanks so much, really glad you enjoyed the video
Excellent video. I love it when a proper professional with excellent quality work says he is happy with his tools. When one has mastered his craft the tools only enhance the skills. A lot of people think that the tools can replace ability.
Thanks so much for the comment, glad you enjoyed the work. I think it's important to remind ourselves how incredible the tools we have are. Most upgrades now are tiny incremental ones that do very little to increase the quality of our images or video other than in very small ways, but of course there's a massive marketing machine that has to persuade us that yesterdays next big thing that we used to think was great, is now no good because this new thing has come along and made it rubbish. I can understand why camera, phone and drone companies do it, but it's important to remind ourselves from time to time how great what we already have is
Love the videos Andy. Beautifully composed and thought through. I remember , with changing conditions , you really have to think on your feet when you send the drone up with shifting clouds and conditions. I was looking forward the seeing the end result. It looks awesome.
Hi Sarfraz, thanks so much for the comment. We got really lucky with the conditions in Italy, especially those low clouds
Honestly the best video I have seen about it. I have one but still love watching what others do with it
Thanks so much for the comment, glad you enjoyed the video
Thanks for the amazing video Andy! always amazed to see your work
Thanks so much for the comment, really glad you enjoy my work
Just watching your footage was worth watching it, and I got a couple very useful bits and pieces of your experience - thank you!
Thanks so much, really glad you enjoyed the footage
A wonderfully made video and an outstanding review with all the right details and insights. Quite incidentally containing all that I have been wondering about as I struggle to decide which drone to buy. So, thank you very much, Andy, for sticking all my own personal boxes! And for the many other videos of yours which I have enjoyed....
Thanks so much for the comment, really glad you found the review useful
Thank you for this review! Great video and photos!
Thanks so much, really glad you found it useful
Thank you Andy for the drone review! Looking forward to seeing some drone footage editing and shooting videos in the future!
Thanks so much Jason. I'd never thought about doing a video on drone footage (shooting and editing) but it might be worth considering in the future.
Fantastic review, Andy! Just what I needed in terms of deciding to upgrade my half-melted Mavic2 Pro with the new Mavic3 or the Air 2S - I will go for the latter, you convinced me to go for the lighter option, as I hike a lot with my drone as well. Good job, as always, mate!!!
Thanks so much for the comment Christian, really glad the video was useful. I think you'll be happy with the Air 2S
Probably the best review I’ve seen on CZcams. Well done!
Thanks so much for the comment, really glad you enjoyed the review
I get that Andy has an amazing gift to capture such beauty, and the landscapes are unparalleled but as a recent purchaser of the DJI Air 2S I can't tell you how stoked I am for the capabilities of this tiny little marvel. I am looking into breaking into the professional UAV pilot world and I think this purchase was a wonderful start. Thank you for a fantastic display of its capabilities and overall terrific review.
Thanks so much for the comment, glad you enjoyed the review. Enjoy the drone and good look with your photography and videography
Beautiful footage and excellent review, as usual!
Thanks so much for the comment, really glad you enjoyed it
This footage is simply astonishing... At the level I can't pay attention in what you are telling while the footage is rolling. Breathtaking work!
Haha, thanks, you're very kind. Glad you enjoyed the video
Great review Andy. Thanks.
Thanks for the comment, glad you found it useful
Superb review. Thanks. Simon.
Thanks so much. Glad you enjoyed the review
your footage and your colorgrading are just GREAT!

Very helpful. Thank you! I will be getting an Air 2S now.
Thanks for the comment. Have fun with the Air 2S. It's a great drone
Another amazing video. By a true photographer
Thanks so much, really glad you enjoyed the video
great and COMPLETE review and comparison to closest competitor m2pro and most importantly - amasing shots. just pure gold. wow.
Thanks so much for the comment, glad you enjoyed the video
Excellent follow up video, and boy, what stunning footage you’ve shot! I’m thoroughly impressed with my 2S, including the stills I get out of it; and the tracking features are so nice to have. Thanks, Andy. 👍🇦🇺🦘
Thanks so much Peter, it's a superb drone
Thank you for the good review and the great pictures 🙏👍👍👍.
Thanks for the comment, really glad you enjoyed it
Thank you Andy for your thoughts on the Air 2S, I've thinking of upgrading to the 2S. Your vlog was very helpful :)

Spot on review and the amazing footage! I love my Air 2s.
Thanks so much for the comment, glad you enjoyed the video
Thank you for your detailed and thorough review! I really enjoyed it.
Thanks for the comment, really glad you found it useful
Bravo Andy. Thanks for the insightful real world review. Your shots are amazing !
Thanks for the comment, really glad you enjoyed it
@@AndyMumford . You make sound it so clear and simple
Best video I’ve seen of the air2s. Looking forward to getting one. Thank you.
Thanks so much, really glad you enjoyed it. You're going to really love the Air 2S
Absolutely brilliant! So happy I found your channel amongst all the others. I enjoy landscape photography and wanted to get a drone to supplement this. Your viewpoint has been invaluable in helping me to choose a drone. I have been considering the Air 2S and it's great to hear from a pro landscape photographer that I don't need to go to the extra expense (and weight) of the Air 3. Looking forward to viewing your work and might think about a workshop at some point in the future. Thanks so much for your viewpoint.
Thanks so much for the comment, glad you found the video useful. I'm pretty sure you'll be happy with the Air 2S
Great review and footage. Thank you.
Thanks so much, glad you enjoyed it and found it useful
Amazing Tutorial Andy. Your images speaks for yourself. Great job. I will follow you as an great artist. Thanks to share
Thanks so much, really glad you enjoyed the video
Very good comparison video! and stunning footage too!
Thanks so much for the comment
Very impressive presentation of the M2S., I believe in what my eyes see.We of the drone world needs that type of dependability, and assurance of a drone like the M2S. Thank you for your professional and true Analysis,K
Thanks for the comment, glad you found the video useful
Great review Andy, thank you! I'm debating for a while should I get one, your review is definitely helping me!
Hi guy, how are you doing? My opinion is that a drone just gives such incredible options for alternative viewpoints. Last month we were in the Dolomites, and often stuck in the middle of clouds, but getting the drone up jus 15 meters allowed me to get a perspective of the mountains above the clouds that I simply couldn't get from on the ground- You won't regret it
Wow Andy! Can't believe I haven't stumbled across one of your videos before. This is really well explained and detailed, while not completely baffling to the layman (That's me). Your footage is jaw dropping. You obviously know what you're doing. I've eagerly been anticipating the M3, but after looking at your footage, not sure I'll need it.
PS- I couldn't subscribe fast enough!
Thanks so much for the comment, and for the sub. Really glad you enjoyed the video, and whichever drone you end up getting, I'm sure you'll really enjoy using it and get some great footage
Great review ! Thank you.
Thanks so much
Just wow. What a review!. Can’t believe I just found your channel. Then again, I am at FPV pilot who just got an Air2S. You should have a master class in drone photography. Your clarity in this video is next to none.
Thanks so much for the comment, glad you enjoyed the video and found it useful. I'm fascinated by FPV drones and as some point would love to have a go with one.
@@AndyMumford I later on found out that you do provide workshops in landscape photography. I currently live in WV (aka Switzerland of America) and I look to forward to knowing these mountains more closely. My wife and I travel a lot. I look forward to joining one of your workshops when my schedule allows. I subscribed to the newsletter.
Just wow; i am not talking just about your work but about your delivery and explanations. - pitch perfect!!! Keep it up.
What a great review this is. Thank you for this. Great shots and grading too!
Thanks for the comment, glad you enjoyed the review
In searching for reviews for the Air2s I stumbled across your video.
Incredible breathtaking work! Thank you for sharing your talents and insight.
Thanks so much for the comment, really glad you enjoyed the video. The Air 2S is a fantastic drone
@@AndyMumford just arrived today….
Soooo beautiful !!!
Thanks so much
Good review, thanks. That helped me to decide on the 2s.
Thanks for the comment, glad the video was useful
Hi Andy. I just found this video on youtube. This came to me as needed. I’ve been nuts for a long time about which of these two drones to choose.
Now you convinced me it is airS2.
Great video with good info. looking forward to more :)
Good adventures for you 🏔
Greetings from Helsinki 🇫🇮
Thanks so much for the comment, glad you found the video useful. Since I made this I've had the chance to test the Mavic 3 (there'll be a review up shortly) and while it's an excellent drone, the differences aren't significant enough to make me change what I said in this video, and the Air 2S is still my go-to drone
Fantastic video
Thanks so much, really glad you enjoyed it
awesome clips, immense talent!
Thanks so much, really glad you enjoyed it
Wooooow fantastic footage
Thanks so much
Hi. I love your work, photos and videos. I bought on air 2s. Wait for came.
Thanks for the comment, and enjoy the drone (I’m sure you will)
Best footage for 2s . thanx

Awesome video!!
Thanks so much for the comment
Fantastic & informative video. Thanks for posting.
Thanks for the comment, glad you found it useful
I’m coming from the Mavick Air 2. I just bout the 3. This is the first time I’ve actually seen footage of the air 2S and wow. Absolutely amazing!! I had no idea.
Thanks so much for the comment, glad you liked the footage. The Air 2S is a brilliant little drone, but I'm sure you'll be super happy with the Mavic 3
Great review - I just picked up an Air 2 S - as a photographer first I found your review to be the best. This drone will keep good company with my Autel Evo 2 pro and my Autel Evo Nano plus - you have a new subscriber as well.
Thanks so much for the comment, glad you found the video useful. And thanks for the sun 🙏🙂
OMG the volcano shot.
Thanks so much, it was a pretty special scene
Great review. Thank you.

Very useful indeed. Thank you.

Forget the Air 2s, maaaan you´ve been at awesome places... im in love with the places you filmed... just wow...
Thanks so much, really glad you enjoyed the video
Outstanding review.
The places n quality is fantastic.
Been to Iceland myself 5 yrs ago but only wished I had mavic air 2s then.
🔟 /🔟 review.
Thanks so much, glad you enjoyed the review
@@AndyMumford I only starting out in the drones and Your review is fantastic. After I watched your review I'm glad I wanted 2 years n not buy the Mavic 2 zoom as I had planned.. Thanks again.
Awesome video Andy, first time I have bumped in to your work, so will be exploring more, now that the Mavic 3 is out, I think I would still be happier with the Air 2S but by the time I am ready to upgrade there will probably be a even better version of the Air! Thanks again.
Thanks for the comment, glad you enjoyed the video. The Air line does seem to be upgraded faster than the Mavic, and the fact that this is a "2S" rather than a "3" makes me think it's a mid-phase refresh and that the Air 3 won't be too far away. What that will have though is anyone's guess....I can't see any way they'll use the bigger sensor of the Mavic 3, so perhaps the same one inch sensor with more resolution
Great video, thank you 😌
Thanks so much, really glad you enjoyed it
Great future reviewer
Thanks so much for the comment
Amazing, thank you for sharing !
Cheers for the comment
Amazing video Andy! Very good and honest review. Now I know which one I´m going to buy. I´ve been using Mavic Air 2 for over a year now and like to upgrade. Mavic Air 2S will be my choice. Thanks a lot!
Thanks for the comment, glad you found the video useful. I'm sure you'll enjoy the drone
Amazing footage , the Air2S is easily the best drone I've ever had as far as pictures and video without spending 5 or 10,000 dollars
Thanks for the comment. Yeah, the quality of footage is superb for such a little drone
A perfect review 👍🏻
Thanks for the comment, glad you found it useful
I also bought it to replace my Mavic 2 Pro and I must say, am very happy with it, just missed 2 things, the audio and to do live on youtube or facebook but I guess that has to do with app , out of that is a fantastic drone. Great video, thank you.
It's a great drone
Thank you for making the exact video I needed. I am also upgrading from my M2P. I bought the Mavic 3 a few weeks ago and had to return it due to several technical issues with it (GPS connection, and the worst of them all was the aircraft disconnect). I will be buying the Mavic air 2S fly more combo with the RC Pro controller.
Thanks for the comment, glad you found the video useful. I got to borrow a Mavic 3 recently, and while I thought it was a great drone, I'll continue to use the Air 2S on my trips
Great in-depth review. I absolutely love this drone. And I have to compliment you on your color grading. It's some of the most beautiful I've ever seen.
Thanks so much for the comment, really glad you enjoyed the review. And thanks for the complement on the grading
Your shots are so powerfull😮😮 thank you for this complete video . The air 2 S will replace my mini 2 next soon 👌👌
Thanks so much. Have fun with the Air 2S, it's a great drone
Really enjoyed watching this review, thanks Andy! Maybe you should consider coming to Ireland for photography and workshops. You sure won't be disappointed...🙏💗
Thanks so much for the comment, glad you enjoyed it. I'd love to visit Ireland someday..it's certainly on the list
What a great video. Makes me happy I chose a Air2S over the Mavic 3. Keep up the great work m8.
Thanks for the comment, glad you enjoyed the video.
Great honest review, I badly need to get more airtime with my Air 2S
Thanks so much, really glad you found it useful
Thanks for the review Andy - concise, succinct and objective! Myself and two old guys (like me) are about to undertake a motorcycling odyssey and we would like to capture drone footage as its so captivating. We need a drone easy to fly (as we are old, and non tech-savvy) which can follow us and do cinematic stuff. The Air 2S sounds just like the ticket. And, of more importance, as our skills enhance we won't run out of drone! Decision made!
Thanks for the comment Andrew. The Air 2S is a superb drone and you'll be really happy with it. The only thing is misses is the sideways sensors, so you have to be careful when tracking sideways with it
Presently lugging around a P4A and the Air2 wasn’t on my radar. I love the variable aperture on the P, maybe I’ll wait for a future model. Good clear review.
Thanks so much for the comment, glad the review was useful
Thank you. 22mm was a good point, especially for those of us that like to shoot landscape. Currently looking into changing my P4P+ Obsidian for better portability with other camera gear.
Thanks for the comment, glad you found the video useful. You'll notice a HUGE difference in portability from your Phantom 😊
Thank you for the informative video.
I would find it interesting to see how you edit your videos and photos taken with the drone.
Thanks so much for the comment, really glad you enjoyed the video. I've done various videos where I've gone over my photography workflow...although it's not with a drone, the editing process is pretty much the same. But I'll probably put something together in the future
Thank you so much for this review Andy. I'm watching a lot of videos because I'm on the market to get a drone and it gives me confident to hear the feedback from a photographer. I was waiting to see what the Mavic 3 Pro has to offer but I'm more incline to get the Air 2S because of the price. I can get the fly more for way cheaper than the Mavic Pro
Hey Amaurie, how are you doing?
Hope the video was useful. For sure the Mavic 3 is going to be an excellent drone, and after it's released I expect a deluge of videos saying how fantastic it is, but with the same resolution the only difference you'll get in image quality comes from the bigger sensor...so probably slightly better dynamic range (not an issue when you bracket everything) and better low light performance (I never fly when the light is really low anyway because I don't like not being able to see where I'm going, and in blue hour light the Air 2S is plenty decent).
So then you're looking at the other features like flight time, side facing sensors etc, and balancing that against the extra weight and significantly higher price.
If it were 8k and 40MP I'd think it was worth it, but the leaks look pretty confirmed now, and so for my uses at least it's really not worth it
@@AndyMumford Sounds good and that’s what I thought. For what I have seen on the leaks I don’t think is going to justify the high price tag for me. Looking at the type of content that you get I’m sure I’ll be more than happy with the Air 2S plus is smaller. I’ll be traveling to Switzerland in December so I want to be able to carry it in my backpack if is possible
dji, one of the best drones👍👍👍 greetings one hobby
Thanks for the comment
I am thinking of upgrading from Mavic pro to Air 2s. The camera and price of the drone is about right for me. Man, you have amazing clips!
Thanks so much for the comment, glad you enjoyed the video
My God !!!, your footage is amazing, I have a Dji Air 2S but there is no way in hell I'll get footage 10% as good as yours, Congratulation's your footage is the best !!!
Thanks so much for the comment, really glad you enjoyed the footage. I'm lucky to visit some incredible places, which helps when it comes to getting good footage
Thanks for mentioning speed in Tripod mode. I also love to shoot slow and have found the MAvic 2 Pro a little fast compared to my previous Phantom 4+. IMHO, if you could set your own max speed for various modes would make any of these drones MUCH better for work. Cheers for the video.
Yeah, I was hoping that something like that would come in a firmware update...it really can't be hard to incorporate into the settings
Great video, thank you.Getting my Air 2S tomorrow. It replaces my Mavic 2Pro that, lateral sensors notwithstanding, had a fatal encounter with a branch over water a year ago. And you were absolutely right about the Mavic 3. Way too expensive and heavy for a non professional like me.
Thanks so much for the comment, glad you enjoyed the video and found it useful. I've used the Mavic 3 since I made this video and my opinion hasn't changed - the Air 2S is a brilliant drone
@@AndyMumford I have a question: is it advisable to use my old smart controller from the Mavic 2Pro with the Air 2S or should I stick to the "regular" controller with the cellular? I found conflicting opinions about the subject. I paired the smart controller and I do not detect lag, which could be dangerous. Thank you.
Thank you. A pleasure to watch your review. Just a couple of points. Cine mode on the Air 2S is 5 meters per second versus Tripod mode of 1 meter per second. The Air 2S itself uses O3 (Ocusync 3), but the remote controller uses Ocusync 2. The weight of the Mavic 3 Pro is between 900g and 920g (as far as we know now and the lower weight may be only for an EU version with reduction in battery size?).
Thanks for the comment, glad you enjoyed the review
Your footage is stunning....After having purchased my Air 2S, it's nice to here from Professional like yourself in terms of the photographic/video-graphic abilities of the Air 2S....thank you. BTW, your videos would never infer the drone was being flown by someone who gets nervous during drone operation...: )
Thanks so much, really glad you enjoyed the video, and that you enjoyed the footage
Excelent
Thanks so much 🙏
I still keep my Mavic 2 Pro...love it. Agree it seems Air 2s has good Pro features with smaller size
Thanks so much for the comment 🙏
Good points. I am puzzled why DJI used f2.8 fixed f-stop on Air2S. Instead, they toss in set of ND filters to control overexposure due to fast wide open lens and midday sun. Variable f-stop lenses are inexpensive technology. Not sure what they were were thinking when making the lens decision ... Good review. Thank you for sharing your experience with Air2S.
Thanks for the comment, glad you enjoyed the review. You're right about the fixed aperture...it's one of those annoying things tech companies do to differentiate products and justify higher pricing.
Muy buena explicación..👏👏👏🤘😘
Thanks so much for the comment
Very helpful review in analyzing functionality of drone itself and helping me to re-evaluate my experience.
Too much emphasis on lava. I have very little lava in my neighborhood.
Andy is a solid guy, but he does get nervous over lava.
Glad you enjoyed the review...and if you ever do get lava in your neighbourhood, be very very careful with it
Good
Cheers
Great in depth review. Plus amazing imagery! I own the Air 2 and I thought the image quality was sub par. Don't even ask about low light. The photos are practically unusable. I am considering upgrading to the Air 2S. And your review may have just put my decision over the top. My question to you is: Since the announcement of the Mavic 3 Pro/Cine series. Are you considering getting one?
Thanks so much for the comment, glad you enjoyed the review. To answer your question, no, I'm not planning to upgrade to the Mavic 3. The features were pretty much exactly as expected due to the leaks, so there's not much of a surprise, and while it's not doubt a great drone, I think the reality is that it's a small upgrade to the Mavic 2 Pro. The larger sensor will give better low light performance (but the Air 2S is already excelling in blue hour, which is as dark as I fly) and an increase in dynamic range (useful, but not worth a few thousand euros). There's no increase in resolution either of video or still images, the telephoto uses a very small sensor, so the IQ will be inferior to the wide, so I just can't see it being worth the money or the extra weight
Great video! Thank you.
I was thinking of buying the Mavic3, but it’s too expensive for my use. So decided not to buy that one.
Downside of your video: it’ll cost me money still to buy the Air2S short term….
Replacing the Mini-2
I like your tone of voice btw
Thanks so much for the comment, glad you enjoyed the video. Since I made this I've had the chance to test the Mavic 3 (there'll be a review up shortly) and while it's an excellent drone, the differences aren't significant enough to make me change what I said in this video, and the Air 2S is still my go-to drone
I subscribe. I do like your channel. I will upgrade my air2 to the air2s 🤩 it would be great 🤩. Very nice. Thank you 😃
Thanks so much, glad you enjoy the channel. I’m sure you’ll love the drone
I own the original Mavic Air 2 just before the S version. And I agree with you because I had a Mavic pro before and the cine slow mode is a little bit too Quick on the air 2 vs the Mavic pro
It's true...I often forget that I'm in Cine mode, and think I'm in Normal mode, as the drone moves so quickly
Great video. Love this drone. I'm very curious as to the amount of heat flying over a volcano. That footage is amazing, but I'd be afraid my lens would melt (only slight exaggeration).
Thanks for the comment, glad you enjoyed it. I was so far away from the volcano that I really don’t know about the heat. I was advised by someone who’d made various flights over the volcano to make sure I was always high enough that I could see the full width of the crater on the screen, and to keep the drone moving as air flowing over it keeps it cooler. Nothing melted, and the drone was normal temperature by the time I got it back, so I’ll never know
Regardless of sensor crop or not, it seems to me the mavic pro 2 plain and simply shoots sharper video with more detail. Still going for the Air 2s, though. Thanks for the wonderful video.
There's really no difference, the sensor is the same with the same resolution. Any apparent difference in sharpness and detail is in what the software does to the file (some people find the Air 2S to have a sharper output file and prefer the softer Mavic 2 Pro, which can then be sharpened in post). Personally, after spending time with files from both drones, i can't see any difference at all.
Well looking at the new mavic 3 (not the cine version) and the air 2s. Save weight or go up to a 4/3 sensor and higher resolution and better dynamic range. Have mavic 2 pro here, and pretty good but pretty soft images. Difficult decision, and the mavic 3 is a lot more expensive. But will always go higher image quality if given a choice. The old mavic 2 pro is still pretty good though. Variable aperture means not investing in nd filters, and not figuring that out. Can get away without switching nd's. Air 2s doesn't have that. Looking forward to your review of mavic 3.
I agree with a lot of what you say, and while the larger sensor on the M3 gives an increase of dynamic range and low light performance, the resolution is actually the same as the Air 2S.
It’s certainly expensive though.
great helpful post andy, although i bough this drone a few weeks ago and i use my drones to do roof surveys on buildings. i'm having big problems with it's ability to focus. i can be only 3 metres away from a roof and tap to focus on the area i need. crop in and it's blurry and not very detailed, i've mentioned this on a few groups and it seems others have the same problem
Thanks for the comment Pete. I wasn't aware of issues like that with focusing. My understanding was that its fixed focus and didn't need to be focused.
Nice review. I am looking for a drone and this seems to be more in my budget than the new mavic 3 pro for sure…
I come from a mini that unfortunately crashed about 2 weeks ago…
Thanks for the comment, hope the review was useful. Coming from the mini you’ll love the Air 2S. It’s a great drone
@@AndyMumford the review was very helpful thank you. I ordered the fly more kit and will hopefully be able to test this drone in the field soon enough! Thank you
